I LOVED BONNAROO 2004. I have no complaints. After reading the threads here, it seems like everyone hated it. I have been touring since 93 and I thought this festival was great. Great music, great people (WHAT UP KAINANI!) interesting weather... come on people, nothing is ever exactly what you want it to be.
There will alwasy be jerks in a crowd that big, the weather is never perfect and traffic will always be annoying. It is just how life is. You just need to adapt and seek out like minded people to have fun with.
I ended up camping next to the most wonderful people, heard some incredible sets and partied like it was 1999. Bring the sun, mud, jerks, drugs, cops, security and everything else that is being complained about here on. BECAUSE THAT IS HOW LIFE IS.
If you expected utopia, may I suggest that it does not and cannot exist.
I have done my fair share of complaining. I didn't expect things to be perfect. There are certain things you cant control, the weather being one of them. There are things you can control, portipotties, the amount of mud. All I know is that if you pay that much money to see a festival, the things that superfly can control, they should go about doing so. I had a great time. Most of the people were as kind as could be. The music was out of this world. I just don't think I would go again. My mind could be changed, depending on superfly's actions for next year. I have been to other festivals here in the states and in europe. Never have I gotten such an undercurrent of sadness and depression in the overall scene. Most of you will probably have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm sure a few do. To those of you that want to go back, well good for you. I think I'd much rather spend my money on a couple smaller fests. That's just my opinion though.

I didn't think $165 was very much at all for four days of camping, 80+ shows and a CD .
I guess I can understand where you are coming from. I did not however feel "...an undercurrent of sadness and depression in the overall scene." Can you tell me a little more on why you felt this way? Maybe I was oblivious.
A lot of people were just uncomfortable because THEY were unprepared. Maybe that attributed to the vibe. Sometimes it gets muddy in June in TN... and rainy and hot and buggy.
As far as the mud... It would have been PROHIBITIVELY(?) expensive to wood chip MILES of trails/roads... even for rich ass Superfly. They probably should have tried to do SOMETHING about Centroo though. (Did I just complain? HYPOCRITE )
As for the portolets, they couldn't get the trucks back there without getting stuck. A bit of PATIENCE and I was ably to find a reasonably ok crapper when necessary. Next year... Bucket w/ trask bag.

In the morning was the only time I dropped anchor...and they were relatively clean around me. I also had a "Luggable Loo" which we used to leak in, but after one experience with my step brother "making" in there...no...never again!
Hey Danbird my man, I too am curious about this "undercurrent" you felt! Did you catch some bad shit?

Right on Steve! I had a blast as well! A few minor inconveniences, but if you're determined to have a good time, you just put those aside, and as you said, "adapt." I for one, am counting the days till next year's roo!
The only place where you lost me in your argument was:
If you expected utopia, may I suggest that it does not and cannot exist.
I think Bonnaroo (as well as many other fests) comes pretty damn close!
I love The roo this year. I loved it last year. I'll be going next year, with more people. Were hoping 6 to 7 people in our group. I don't think people are complaining to the point of saying it was soooo bad I die everytime I think of it. I think they were expecting more from a logistics standpoint. I can understand the rain making things difficult, from set delays to making it hard to clean the john. I feel they needed a back up plan for some things. They'll learn, just like they've learned from the last tow roos. The line was less for a lot of people this year, average time dropped from what all I've been hearing. I liked the amount of tents, then I only went up to the main stage about 4 times total the whole weekend. I don't think it's unheard of to complain a little after somthing that most of us paid 165, and spent a lot of time on. I'm sending a letter to superfly with my concerns about this years festival, as well as a huge thank you for putting it on. No one expected a utopia, we just wanted semi-clean places to "drop anchor".

well, i had an awesome time, for the most part. there were some sketchy people there, but what can u do about it. im kinda upset that the portopoties were so nasty. and we also forgot our shairs which sucked wicked bad, and oh ya, the kids in the car made me give away a 1/2 of shrooms cuz they didnt want them in the car. that sucked HARDCORE. oh ya, they were given away for FREE
Blaze all day, every day, each way the right way, my way green hay we high, been there, done that, big blunts fat sacks, hit it fast make it last, first class WE BLAZZE
I'm 54 and a first time Rooster. Sure, I got hot, tired, wasted and wet, but WTF, we all knew it was gonna be that way b4 we left for Tennessee!! I for one will never forget my first American festival. I gifted my newly graduated nephew a ticket, and I know it is the only graduation gift he will remember when he's 65. I didn't get the "sad vibes" at all, and I want to say Thank you, to each and every one of you and the staff, I had an amazing weekend. You've given me hope for the future of this country. God bless us, each and everyone.
You are so right. My Best Ever & I had a blast. We will see you all next year. Life is the same for us all,in general. You can either sit back and enjoy or whine like a baby. Took me 50yrs and a good woman to learn to relax and enjoy. steevo9a@bellsouth.net

I have yet to complain. I went into Bonnaroo with my eyes wide open, and expecting some difficulties. It was fine to be there by myself. I met a lot of cool people, and enjoyed myself immensely!!
