Well this is interesting. Dawes is announced for Friday of Xponential Fest. I remember last year they said that they wanted to be at Newport for all 3 days this year (they were sad that they were on tour with Conor and had to miss some of NFF). At the very least, no Friday night after show (was Basement Tapes still a possibility for Friday? If so, I think this rules that out too).
Bombino is at Xponential Fest on Sunday (what other days that weekend is he already booked?)
Lord Huron would need to be booked for Sunday (Friday at Floydfest, Saturday at Xponential Fest). But their tour dates look good right now.
Yup, Friday was the only chance. What a fail on Newport with that one.
Well to be fair, they all don't play in all of the songs. So as long as a handful of them are there, I'd assume we'll see some New Basement Tape collabs at some point.
That's too bad. Now if we also don't get Decemberists I have no idea who the headliners might be
The Decemberists, Sufjan Stevens, Bob Dylan, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Leonard Cohen, and My Morning Jacket are still all in contention (I think). Old Crow is in the area that weekend even though they headlined two years ago. I guess it's been long enough for John Prine to be able to get invited back. Remember that some act always comes out of the blue around this time (Beck and Ryan Adams the previous two years).
Are Alabama Shakes, Of Monsters and Men, and/or Hozier big enough to headline? Would/could Merle Haggard headline?

I'm headed to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival this summer and I've noticed from time to time that the organizers throw in band hints on the forums-chat boards. Would love to see NFF do that on here (since they read this!)
I know they're nowhere close to being folk artists but, alt-J were incredible last night. Saw them in one of the most beautiful theaters in the country imo. One of my favorites they do is their version of Bill Withers "A Lovely Day". Nothing like live music!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I'd assume then that MMJ and Iron & Wine/Bridwell are the top two acts of the day.
My thought as well. I wasn't 100% certain if they'd be the preheadliner, but I'm fine if they are. If those two acts and the Lone Bellow are all on the main stage, I know where I'll be all Friday
