"I was just so excited he was coming up. He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody," Beck said when asked how he felt about West crashing the stage. "How many great records has he put out in the last five years right?"
Even though he said Beyonce should have won? "Absolutely," replied the humble musician. "I thought she was going to win. Come on, she's Beyonce!"
And what about his diss that Beyonce is true artistry, and you're not? "You can't please everybody, man," he replied. "I still love him and think he's genius. I aspire to do what he does."
It was a joke. He smiled and laughed while doing it. He was being self-deprecating (which is refreshing coming from Kanye). Jay-z and the rest of the audience laughed too. Beck didn't seem bothered.

Jay Z's reaction is priceless.
and if you read beyonce's lips she says "no kanye no"
I figured out what was missing last night from the Grammy's. What made me feel a little sad (or a lot!) Pops & Delicious Meatball Sub, I need your live blogging in my life. Seriously. Find a way to make that happen from here on out. OK?
The plan is to be back next year. Snarkier than ever.
The more I think about it the more pissed off I get that Beyonce didn't win
Give me your brief review of her album, if ya don't mind. I haven't listened to it at all so I'd like to know why you find it so awesome. What are some of the standout tracks and why do you feel this album deserved it?
Not saying you're wrong for feeling that way....just that I've had my head in the sand and don't know anything about the album, really. What makes this one "best of the year"?

My personal favorites from the album were Drunk in Love, Blow, Jealous, and 7/11. I think Beyonce deserved it because it was an album that pushed creativity. It was forward thinking yet appealed to the masses, like Daft Punk's album last year. It was way more relevant than Beck's album. I mean look at all the artists that are being really ambiguous about release dates and dropping surprise albums lately. Wonder who started that trend...

It isn't so much that Morning Phase is bad, per se, it's just that THIS is the Beck album that finally wins AOTY? Basically all of his albums up to Guero destroyed this one creatively and/or commercially.

Maybe it's one of those things you see in award shows for acting where they give the award to a guy who has put in a long, great body of work even though the actual piece he's nominated for wasn't really worthy. Sort of like a recognition of your career more than it is of the album. Doesn't make much sense to me but we've seen plenty of examples of the voters just coming up with weird choices that make people go WTF.
I'm sure they didn't start it but The Raconteurs released their second album as a total surprise.
According to the band, the album was finished during the first week in March and was released less than three weeks later.[5] For a band of their stature, the release of Consolers of the Lonely with no promotion was highly unorthodox. Music critics and commentators largely saw it as a way to eschew critics and deal directly with fans.[6] The Observer called it "one of the most exciting musical events of 2008."[7] Despite the already rapid release time and efforts to secure the date, the record was briefly available for purchase on iTunes Friday, March 21.[8]
There are plenty of other artists/bands who have released surprise albums in the past.

I'm obviously aware that she wasn't the first one to drop a surprise album. I'm saying there's been two in the past year since Beyonce dropped hers and you had to go back to 2008 to find another relevant surprise release.
Also, Bey's own husband put out an album in similar fashion 4 months prior to her release. There was nothing revolutionary about that part.
Okay then she revived the trend. Between 2008 and 2013 how many major surprise releases were there? Since Beyonce both U2, Bjork, and Thom Yorke have dropped surprise releases. Anyway though like Horn said it has nothing to do with her artistic merit. I was just trying to make a point on how massive the album was
