Fuck Chuckie Keeton Fuck Matt Wells Fuck Utah State Fuck Vegas and their bullshit odds.
I am sure one of you fucking killjoys are going to come in here trying to rain on my parade, but UT (who was barely favored coming in) dominated every phase of that game.
Congratulations on your hard fought victory against the MWC powerhouse that is Utah St. You guys are obviously prepared to take it to the next level (.500), but don't get too far ahead of yourself you have a real test against Arkansas St. next week.
Love,
one of us fucking killjoys
Says the guy who rubbed one out over his offense putting up big numbers against a middle of the road Mountain West team. Makes total sense.

There is a difference, you were trying to bill it as a big game. I knew UNLV was a cupcake and never tried to build it up as anything more than that.
And yes I am excited, but that is mostly because as of last week a starting QB hadn't been named yet and then once it was named it was a red shirt freshmen. It wouldn't be a surprise to see a a redshirt freshmen struggle in his first start against even a bad team. What was a surprise was that he broke the Freshmen QB yardage record at Arizona and that the team broke the all-time yardage record. We have played a lot of really bad teams in the 115 years we have had a football team and yet never gained 785 yards before.
We were told to bill it as a game to pay attention to by nearly every prognosticator in all of the land. But I personally didn't bill it as a "big game." It was just a game that UT needed to take seriously. 6 out of 8 people in Sports Illustrated picked the underdog in, so that has to grab your attention if you want to be a reasonable fan. It was no cupcake going in. I'll be interested to see how well Utah State does. Maybe they will suck. But that was a great win for a UT fanbase that hasn't had much to look forward to in a while. We cool now?

Bird has covered important points in this, but there are some other things I wanted to say on this. Once again, for where UT is right now, Utah State was not a cupcake from what basically every national sports writer was saying beforehand. Am I going to be happy if the same would be true in three years? Of course not. I don't expect the team to be at the level of taking a 6-6 season as a good season in the long run, but it's where we are at right now.
If you look at my original post, I billed it as a "legit" opener which is not the same as saying it is a big game. If you look at some of the teams Tennessee has faced in recent years in the opener, Utah State is a step above that. I would very much go with Bird's assessment that it was an important game. Much like Arizona, our starting QB wasn't named until a couple weeks ago and many felt that he won by default of being the most experience guy rather than actually being good. His deep ball was repeatedly off during the course of the game, but Worley showed a lot of promise in others areas. He didn't freak out under pressure. You could see him talking to teammates on the sidelines about what worked and what didn't. He was comfortable making adjustments to plays on the fly. The need to get questions answered is something that really happened in basically every phase of the game. We still don't have an official #1 kicker. The entire offensive line and defensive line were making their first start in Orange. Tennessee had a terrible track record against mobile quarterbacks last season, and, from what I had read in multiple previews, Keeton was supposed to be one of the best mobile QBs in the country. That should be enough to give you cause from concern when the entire line is new.
There are also two main points that affect the level of enthusiasm I have after the game. One, my reaction would be very different if we had won by less than a touchdown. Tennessee was in control of that game from start to finish which is where I had hoped we would be against a team like Utah State but had no reason to be confident of that actually happening. Two, I am not some idiot homer like some others that I have seen that are suddenly talking about Tennessee having a serious shot at taking the SEC East this year. In two weeks, we are going to get absolutely annihilated by Oklahoma. Nothing I saw yesterday changed my opinion on that. My enthusiasm is that we seem to be heading further in the right direction back to where we used to be, and it was good to see tangible evidence of that after hearing about the progress for months and months based off of what recruits "should" or "could" do.
Does it count still since I have a degree from the university and didn't just take a summer class there once? Also, I would recommend you read some books on the Sociology of Sport. I think you would enjoy them.
So Auburn's offense looked awesome and their defense... well... It looks like every game will be a race to the finish again and I don't know if my heart can take it. I mean, I'll subject myself to it but I'm not confident I can take it.
It was fun to watch Duke Williams though. Our receivers are scary good this year.
I am sure that I have lost many years off my life from being an Auburn fan.

Sang, is that you?
When you start coming up with fresh arguments, so will I.

Awww yeah. Welcome to the ACC.
Also I'm pissed I couldn't get a single stream to work so I had to follow the game via Twitter updates. Horrible opening weekend, I didn't get to see a single down played.

I don't think it would be crazy for Tenn to be in the fight to win the east. Uga looks the best but they're not going to play every game the way they played the second half against Clemson. SC looked horrible and could have a down year. Who knows about Fla? Missouri came out of nowhere last year, they probably won't repeat that. Tenn obviously has the talent and finally has a good coach. They have as much of a chance as anyone else.
Others receiving votes: Texas 126, Oklahoma State 94, Duke 60, Florida 49, Penn State 49, Mississippi State 49, Michigan 38, TCU 29, Washington 27, BYU 21, Marshall 18, Iowa 18, Virginia Tech 17, Tennessee 14, Cincinnati 8, West Virginia 7, Texas Tech 7, Rutgers 6, ARIZONA 4, North Dakota State 2, Louisiana-Lafayette 1, Pittsburgh 1
It's okay, I'm patient. We will have way more votes than you in the three weeks between when you get crushed by Oklahoma and when we get crushed by Oregon.
I think he posted the Coaches Poll not the AP, but since you brought it up.
Suck it.
Edit: Btw, I still think people are overreacting.

You seem to forget the impressive victory over powerhouse Arkansas St that we will have this weekend. I bet we'll sway Kev on his first place vote.

Arkansas St. is nothing compared to the powerhouses we are facing in UTSA, Nevada, and Cal

Pitt -4 at BC feels like easy money Ole Miss absolutely covers -20 over Vandy And I'll be riding the Michigan State upset wagon over Oregon but refuse to put money on it

For what it's worth it was more an indictment on BC's offense! But hey guys I'm on somewhat of a roll the first 2 weeks of the season... In the words of Anders Holm, get on my coattails. Ole Miss -20 over pathetic (emphasis on pathetic) Vanderbilt is looking better and better
