I think it could generate more income from people who live locally (I mean locally as within an hour of festival site), but don't want to camp out four days or don't want to stay four days. Will they do this? Did they do this last year in some form?

They sold day passes for the first time last year. I haven't seen anything about them doing so this year. They didn't go on sale until May 3rd last year, so it still may be in the works.

Like Dave said, they did it last year. I don't see why the greedy bastards wouldn't do it again considering single tickets were around $200 a pop. This is why 150,000 people were said to be there last year, half of those tickets were day tickets. I'm assuming they'll go on sale around the time they release the schedule.
For the record last year there were day passes, but it could only be purchased and used in conjunction with a shuttle to and from Nashville each day. I believe there were two shuttles eachday which would implie to me that at most there were 200 such tickets sold.
It appears they have a similar shuttle going back and forth each day to Nashville but no day tickets associated with it yet. Just a full weekend pass for $520.
Putting myself in a concert promoter's shoes, I wouldn't offer day passes until I had to. Sure, the wristbands secure a larger amount of cash up front compared to a $100 day pass (no idea how much they were, btw), but a lot of the money is stitched into the fabric of having nearly 100,000 people in one place buying food, beer, and merch. Every single vendor pays a fee to be there contributing a hefty revenue stream. If too many day tickets get sold and a lot of attendees go back to a hotel, the grilled cheese/pesto mozadilla guy will go broke.
On top of that, too many day tickets would clog up the road all weekend, instead of the two day limited goat fuck it is now.
I will never ever understand the idea of day tickets for a camping festival.
If I lived close enough to a festival of Bonnaroos size that I didn't have to take two extra days off from work where I didn't have to take two extra days for travel, I'd be happier than a baby on the tit.
But that's just me and I love the economical benefits of camping and concerts that are involved in going to a festival.
I will never ever understand the idea of day tickets for a camping festival.

But that's just me and I love the economical benefits of camping and concerts that are involved in going to a festival.
I feel like the "forced" camping is integral to the spirit / vibe of Bonnaroo.
The whole community aspect, the nightlife, the eclectic campsites and survival tips, those come about because you have to camp there. No camping means no meeting neighbors, no getting out of your techno-luxury comfort zone, no engaging with other people in a truly meaningful way. Without the camping, I feel like it's essentially not that different from a theme park or state fair crowd.
My parents did a day pass last year. They had never been to Bonnaroo before and wanted to experience it, but are in their 50s and didn't want to commit to 4 days camping, no matter how awesome they are (and oh yes, my parents are fucking awesome). They were able to come and have an amazing time (they wanted to see ZZ Top, but ended up leaving that to see Pretty Lights which makes me very happy), and have an experience they wouldn't have had without a day pass.
They're really hoping there will be day passes again this year and so am I.

Some people just don't like camping in the middle of a field under 90+ heat with thousands of college kids.
ONE of our concert friends refuses to stay at camp. They are worried about security. I don't understand it, but if they want to pay 800 dollars for a 4 night stay in Tullahoma, that's their business.
If I were closer to home, I would drive back and forth. A one hour drive beats my 2. I feel like I would miss so much if 4 hours of my day were spent driving

This. Since I'm working Roo this year I'm getting put up in a hotel for the entire week. I know that a majority of my time on the farm will be spent working, but aside from missing lots of amazing music, I'm almost equally sad about not being able camp out. (Especially since I JUST bought a new tent & canopy-- hot pink canopy at that-- that I won't even be using till next year.) Camping out is just half the fun of festivals for me. I just love it. Seeing all the really cool camp sites, mingling with neighbors turned friends, and hanging out at random peoples tents and socializing. It's just such an awesome experience. I can't imagine doing a festival without the camping. I'm doing Forecastle too, which is not a camp out, and am pretty bummed that I'll be missing that vibe there too. It'll actually be my first non-camping festival and I feel a little unprepared on what to expect.

That's silly. You're safer at 'Roo than you are in any city in America. There's no security check or $300 entrance fee to walk into New York, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, etc.

That's silly. You're safer at 'Roo than you are in any city in America. There's no security check or $300 entrance fee to walk into New York, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, etc.
I think it's his wife more then cowboy. She is from croatia and can get nervous in large groups of people. She is ok in centroo but I think sleeping in a tent is a non starter for her.
We didn't see any fights or armed theft last year or anything. Did have Mrs. Memphis's camelback stolen out of our camp site the on Saturday night. Walked around for about 15 minutes and found it about 4 campsites down. Probably just someone looking for food. That's all they took. Her tp and all of her pack food.
The point is people are different and while we may feel that some fears are ridiculous, it doesn't mean it is not any less real for the other person.
