Alright, none of you better judge me because if you know me then you know that I will camp the crap out of Roo, rain or shine. Unfortunately, people in my group have health problems and prejudices about tents, so we're looking into staying at a hotel and doing day parking. Taking the hotel itself out of the equation, is it better to stay in Shelbyville or McMinnville?

The closest hotels are Manchester, Tullahoma, then Shelbyville. Murfreesboro is not bad either. It is 30 min via interstate. The nicest hotel is Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro. After that, it is the normal chains like Comfort Suites and the like.
Personally, I would stay at the above before McMinnville.
We ended up booking in Murfreesboro, although spartan would be the polite way of describing our choice. I think all the good hotels are already taken. I'm super hoping someone else in my party will camp out with me, although I will totally take advantage of the ice machine and showers at the hotel at least once or twice.
