Going to get a 12pk of coffee porter and a 12pk of black mocha stout. Have to make sure we have the essentials before they run out at the grocery store.
The first time there was snow when I lived in the south, I went to buy a bag of salt. There was an older man, probably late 60's just staring at the bags of salt. As I picked up a bag he said to me... "that stuff really work?" Now, instead of laughing at him I came to the realization that in his 60+ years of life, he never had to know the answer to that question. You know what?? Good for him! I would love to not have had to know at any point in my life if I was in need of buying salt for my driveway.
Lol. You don't need to experience a snow storm to understand that "that stuff really work". Salt lowers the temperature at which water freezes. It's the most basic chemistry.

Power was off most of the morning. Back on now. Promised the kids a big breakfast last night so took my road trip grill out in the garage and made pancakes (not waffles), bacon and eggs on the griddle. Bring it ice storm. You are no match for us.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
No power issues yet here. Don't expect any cause our lines are underground but ya never know. About 1/4 inch of ice so far and it's still coming. I'm ready for this to switch over to snow already...
The hamburger debate still gets me all worked up to think about.
Which side were you on on that one?
What is the hamburger debate?
EDIT: Sorry to get off topic there. How is everyone holding up? @zenfnp did you have any takers? I promise you that if I still lived in Duluth, I would have taken you up on your super generous offer.

This is a massive system. How is everyone making out in TN and the Carolinas as well?
Ah shit, it won't let me tag right now. Custeph? Dave?
Poor Philly and on up- you guys just can't get a break! I'm so thankful we're being spared this time.
It hasn't started snowing here yet. I cannot burn any more vacation time behind this mess due to upcoming stuff, so I am seriously considering sleeping at my office tonight.
What are they expecting in eastern TN? Ice and snow?
(bummer about sleeping in your office. did you bring a change of undies?)
Snow. It's been right above freezing the last couple days, so I would be worried that the first snow to fall would melt then refreeze to ice overnight which makes for bullcrap driving conditions.

I liked this only because of your commitment to save vacation days, because even having to think about sleeping at the office is filled with suck

My first year at a job with & full week of PTO days and I used 3 already to get drunk inside my house and make a snowmen army to hack to pieces with swords. Ok the great snowwar of 2014 was worth the day but the other 2 were not!

Just got a snap chat from a friend who is staying in his office/store tonight. He runs a gift shop and can't risk missing sales or shipping orders out with VDay coming up. On the bright side, he said, he is sure to have heat/power.
One time, abrakapokus had a smartmouth yankee for a professor in college. She constantly liked to poke fun at us simple country folk for freaking out over our pathetic winter weather. One day, after one of these inferior storms, she wrapped her car around a tree because she forgot brakes don't mean crap on a sheet of ice. That was the end of her talking.
P.S. She didn't die.
Old girl thought driving around here with snow/ice would be the same as where she was from. She forgot to account for the hills and sharp curves without railing. That glorious day, drop off the side of a hill knocked her ego down a bit. I've driven in Michigan when it was snowing and the only problem I had was sneaky black ice. Here, I've also had to drive and this is much much harder. Hills, curves, steep driveways, and backroads who don't see salt trucks with trees that don't allow sun on the roads.
Of course the room I have set up as my home office is cold as fuck. I am sitting on an heating pad.
And schools have been called for another day. I may just try walking to work tomorrow to get away from here. How long will it take me to walk 20 miles to Greenville?
Is it common for you guys to put winter tires on your car? Honest question. We pretty much have no choice up here come November through to April.
As has been brought up somewhere else, it's a risk-reward thing. The cost of a set of snow/winter tires is too much here since you will need them between 0-4 days usually. My granddad had a set of tire chains, but that was more because he grew up in PA.
We're not allowed to have chains because they chew up the road. FYI, all season tires are pretty much a laughing joke up here. They're glorified summer tires with a deeper tread.

My parents are from Michigan, so I should know what those are, but being raised in TN means I have no idea what those are.
I don't even put winter tires on my car and i live in MN. All season tires and knowledge of how to drive in snow/ice are plenty safe if ya ask me, but nobody was so carry on :-)

Had a mixture of sleet and snow since about 4 in the morning. Hardly any cars on the road. This may get nasty. Still good on power though. Hopefully that won't change.
