My thinking is that Davis will still make the team. Kobe isn't going to play, and signs are pointing towards Chris Paul being back before All Star Weekend. Slide CP3 into the starting lineup and give Anthony Davis the last wild card spot.
Joe Johnson is a joke of a pick. Lance, Kyle Lowry or even Al Jefferson would have been a much more deserving pick in my mind.

This was a great weekend to be a magic fan. Especially considering how dreadful the last two years have been. Beating okc and ind back to back was nice.
We are still godawful but I do have some faith in our front office. We have nice young pieces in oladipo, vucci man, harris, harkless... plus one of the best trade chips in the league in afflalo.
I think oladipo will be the best player from this rookie class though mcw will deservedly be roy. His defense and motor is unreal.

Both Oladipo and Antetokounmpo have a decent enough shot of developing into star players. I like to imagine they could become Westbrook/Durant 2.0 some day. They both have a long way to go to reach those heights, but I could see it happening.
I have less faith in Milwaukee to actually help Greek Freak reach his potential, especially right now when everything is so inconsistent and the lineup is so crowded on the wings. Orlando is at least giving Oladipo plenty of opportunities to prove himself. He'll be the more valuable asset until Giannis can prove he can get a consistent offensive game to go with all his natural gifts. The sky is the limit for these guys so long as their franchises don't screw it up somehow.
I just can't wait until Andrea Bargnani wins ROY for the Knicks next year!
Since we're talking (real) rookies, how are Knicks fans feeling about Hardaway? I feel like he's had some moments this year but haven't kept up with NY enough to really tell if he's been anything to get excited about. What's the scoop on that kid?

A lot of fans are bitching about a lack of impact, but I'm happy with how they're bringing him along. He's not playing so much that he gets blamed for losses, but he's playing enough to stay involved and continue improving. His work ethic is apparently insane, like Kobe-level psychotic. He shoots thousands of shots daily, shows up 5 hours early on game days to get extra work in, etc. And the best part is his father still refuses to cheer for the team he plays for.
I think Hardaway and Shump have a chance to be a very athletic, explosive SG tandem. And if they go small, Shump at the 3 and Hardaway at the 2 is really fun to watch.
I like Hardaway so far, nothing special quite yet, but a very solid young player.
Hardaway and shump are two bright spots but god that organization has been terrible of late.
Amare. Spending max dollars on a bench player kind of sucks, especially when your best big man is playing like a broken human being.
Not to mention my Magic will enjoy the Knicks first rounder this year they may end up being a lotto pick in the most loaded draft since 03. I mean Melo is a top 10 player but damn they gave away so much for him when he probably would have came to NY the following summer anyways.

IIRC GM Donnie Walsh didn't want to give away so many pieces in the deal but Jim Dolan pushed hard to make it happen anyway. Looking back on it in basketball terms it was a poor decision, but I bet it's easier to sell Carmelo Anthony instead of Danilo Galinari or Wilson Chandler to a basketball fanbase that's used to greatness like New York is.

Thats true. It was a bold move. Many championship teams have had to take risks, but I'd prefer the GM of my team to not care what a fanbase thinks.
For instance, EVERYONE was all over Rob Hennigan after the Dwight deal. WOuld have been easier to sell Bynum or Iggy to a fanbase. Instead, a year later, Dwight, Bynum, and Iggy switched teams, and the Magic still have Nik Vuch, Harkless, Afflalo, a decent looking first rounder in this upcoming draft, and two future second rounders. Plus we were able to bottom out and get Oladipo and hopefully a top 5 pick this year.
The best part of the Rookie/Sophomore challenge was when Dion Waiters and Tim Hardaway started taking it to one another. Hardaway dropped one of those Globetrotter four point shots and it made Kevin Durant do his shimmy.
I love the Kevin Durant dance.
Durant said that he would be looking forward to going one on one a lot on Sunday, and when the interviewer asked if it would be against Lebron he said yes. Durant vs Lebron confirmed to headline the All Star game. If it's as entertaining as the Waiters-Hardaway battle then it should be a lot of fun to watch.
As far as tonight goes, I say Team Curry wins shooting stars, Lillard repeats as skills champ, and the three point will come down to Steph Curry and Bradley Beal with whoever uses their moneyball rack better being the winner. The East will win the Slam Dunk contest, with Paul George being named the best dunker because he's easily the most popular in the whole contest.

I feel the need to beseech our Lord and Savior Christopher Bosh for forgiveness. I erred in picking someone other than he to win, and if I am lucky, he will not bring the thunder down on me the way he did upon the Western Conference.
Edit: If Chris Bosh is the sun, then whiskey is the moon.

Not very satisfied with the dunk contest tonight.
I loved the lil jam session and the concept... but the sweep that occurred for the east meant only one solo dunk for each contestant. The hell is that? Same format, just make those battles last 2 or 3 dunks and average the scores.
Oh and I woulda went nuts if George got his dunk on the first attempt.
That halftime show was so much fun to see. It made me think of the farm and how great a Janelle Monae & EW&F Superjam could be. I love Trombone Shorty and GCJ too, and it was nice to see Bright Lights played like that. Well played, NBA.
