We sent off for Friday and Saturday thru mail order. The envelop was rainbow colored with dancing bears, all colored with crayons. It's going to catch people's eyes and we shall get picked. Ha.
It might end up that we can't do both nights. So if things work out that way, and we score tickets for both shows, I'll let you guys know about two at face value.
I am really thinking they are going to be almost impossible to get..... And I am normally a very optimistic person..... There is a huge audience for these shows, and Chicago is so easily accessible. People will drive or fly a long way for these shows.
The Dead played two nights at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont IL last tour and that place seats 18500.
They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.

I think that everyone that wants to get tickets will get them.
There is definitely a Phish mentality going down of tickethoarding and a lot of people are gonna have extras to dump.
I think anyone will be able to get 199.50 reserved seats, pit tickets and the 59.50 ones are gonna go really quick.
I've considered this. I'd really rather have the cheap tickets, I just want to get in the stadium, but come on sale time I don't want to mess with selecting price ranges etc, since every second counts.
So I'll be selecting 4 3-day passes, what if I hit the $200 price level? $2400 worth of tickets? Jesus.
Welp apparently they received 60,000+ mail order requests for 300,000+ tickets and are now canceling the Dead 50 presale. New public on sale is February 28th. Good luck everyone.

Kind of ridiculous to allot such a large percentage of tickets to mail order, considering how many people are hoarding tickets.
Still though, it'll be cheaper to scalp a ticket off a fan than through a broker. The onsale is gonna be rough. I'm gonna make sure I get in all three nights for face, that's all I know.
this makes me glad we sent our envelopes with two money orders so we could get either tickets. also that is a lot of stamps the post office should be lobbying for more shows!

we got our money orders back last Thursday - starting to sound rather fishy with all the returns Ive seen. Like they either realized a lot more money could be made selling these cheezy ass vip combo packages or they promised TicketMaster a rather large piece of the pie so very few mail order tickets will get processed.
so.... plan B...attempt to get one of the few hotel/ticket packages from the dead50 website on (Feb 27) Plan C...buy tickets from Ticketmaster (Feb 28) plan D...keep my current hotel room till late June and search the aftermarket and hope for a good deal(stubhub)

I agree with the fishiness. I will probably try to get tickets on the 28th, but won't be as disappointed if I don't get them as I was getting back my money orders. I am already $30 in the hole because of the WU refund policy and following the recommendation of sending two money orders for the upgrade if necessary.

Yet add in that the Dead's main set ended with an insane Superjam that saw the band joined by Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, Mick Fleetwood, Butch Trucks, Danny Kirwin, Peter Green and Berry Oakley. The Superjam segment of the Dead's set started off with a "Dark Star" that was jammed into the thematic "Spanish Jam" and comes to close with a near 30-minute "Turn On Your Lovelight." Phil Lesh discussed the evening extensively in his 2005 auto- biography Searching For The Sound. Lesh reveals that the collaboration came together organically, so much so that Phil was surprised when he heard Duane Allman's slide and realized someone was sitting in. The bassist calls the resulting music, "a surprisingly coherent free-for-all, with five guitarists, four drummers, organ, and – Pigpen roaring over it all." Phil was impressed by Gregg Allman's voice, writing Gregg sounded "like a fifty-year-old black man even then." Lesh was more than happy to turn over bass duties to Berry Oakley during "Turn On Your Lovelight" when Phil told the ABB bassist, "I just want to listen to this for a while."
