I complained above about all the interviews I've been conducting. On Tuesday, we interviewed a woman who'd been out of law school and seemed like she might be a good fit. We weren't ready to hire her, but we were planning to fly her up from LA to meet some more people.
When I was interviewing her, I asked about her involvement in marketing activities and she told me that her firm sends out e-mails telling clients and prospects about recent cases of interest. So I asked her to send me a sample of one she wrote. That was Tuesday and she sent me one today, which seemed a little weird - how long does it take to forward an e-mail?
On a whim (OK, because I'm a cynical, suspicious ass), I cut and pasted a line from her case description into my web browser, put quotes around, it and did a search. It turns out that big chunks of the case description that she sent to her firm's client's earlier this month were lifted verbatim from a news article written in June. To make matters worse, she's presenting it to us as a sample of her writing. What nerve!

She starts here September 1st.
jk - we're sending her a lovely rejection letter.
At least now you can make out with her without worrying about human resources.

Thank you for that. But people have different standards about who's OK to make out with and who isn't. What qualifications do you have to draw that line?

I've made out with at least two girls.
You're my new hero! How'd you do it?
My big move to get girls to make out with me is to marry them in states where they get half my stuff if I leave. But there are limits to how many times you can do that. If I tried it on a third girl, I'd have no more stuff because the 1st two would have each taken half.

Don't worry friend. If there's one thing I've learn you can take half of anything and still have something. You'll never end up with nothing! Keep marrying and moving. You got dis.
And for the record I'm pretty sure both my aunts felt bad for me. But who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth?

After putting it off for a while despite really wanting to do it, I have motivated myself to make it to church the last two Sundays with boys in tow. Tuesday, I get a call from a number I don't recognize. I answer and it is the head of religious education for the church. I expect it is her calling to talk about the boys and the upcoming school year for church. Instead, she starts talking about a very part time position that is open with the church which is basically a coordinator for the high school aged program at the church being responsible for planning/attending activities, fundraising, service trips, etc. She then tells me that the position was due to close Friday and that they hadn't received any candidates that had really wowed them. Her and the minister had begun to brainstorm regarding people they thought would do well, and my name is the first one that came up with the hope that I hadn't applied because I either didn't know about it or didn't think it was appropriate given my recent lengthy absence for attending. She told me that she would hold it open longer in order for me to have time to consider and update and submit my resume if I chose. She stated that either her or the minister would be willing to meet with me and discuss it at length if I had questions or concerns. I end up meeting with the minister yesterday during lunch where he phrased things much more in a "when you get the position" way rather than a "if you get the position" way. The money isn't anything substantial, but talking to him yesterday really stirred up a lot of the reasons why I had enjoyed working with adolescents at a previous job. This one seems very challenging but lacks any of the negative aspects of that job, so I just sent off a resume and cover letter. This should be fun times.

This is only like four hours a week depending on outings/trips/meetings/etc., so this will be a second job.

Oh ok, sounds like a good thing.
I just appreciate you going with the question you asked rather than questioning why someone would pay me to work with children like I expected you to write.

God I hate submitting my billable time every week. I envy anyone who just clocks in or doesnt have to track their hours. I work on projects from up to 20 clients/companies a week and have to bill my time appropriately for every hour I work each week. Ughhhh.

The person whose office is directly across the hall from mine has got a cold or something, which is causing his nose to run. And every minute or so, he does one of those big nose slurps to suck the snot back in there. If he doesn't go blow his nose soon, I may have an actual breakdown.

You know what you need? That lovely bluetooth selfie cellphone stick, with a kleenex on the end of it. BOOM, problem solved.

I'm the type of person who would by a box of Kleenex, run into their office - out of breath, huge grin under OMG shaped eyes and exclaim: "They invented buttwipe for our noses! Check it out! <grabs tissue and blows nose theatrically> Want some of these bad boys?!

^ the offender across the hall is also my supervisor, so I reckon I'll just deal with it until he's better.
In other news, today is one of those rare days when my attention span has been longer than 5 minutes and I kind of feel like I'm actually pretty good at my job. I like these days.

After work today, I had an interview with the head of religious education and two of the youth from the group. Just got the call with the "enthusiastic" job offer. Now begins the thoughts of "What did I just get myself into?"
