Threats of violence at the school I teach has made it so only like 40% of students are here today. The folks who are here are hoping they aren't gonna get shot.
That is scary. Our kids shouldn't have to worry about getting shot at school.
Damn...and here I am worried over using my company's bandwith to stream music and watch youtube videos....

Would it be crazy to tell my boss February 27th is my last day if I don't have another job lined up? I haven't even been looking for another job since summer. I'm over this shit and have been resisting the urge to tell my boss to stick this job up her fucking twat all morning.
Edit: I feel like it's crazy but I need to hear it from someone else so I know it's not just fear of change making me think that's crazy.

Have co-workers willing to join you on a mutiny?
If there was another job in her future I have one for sure.
There is only one other full timer besides me, and two part time high schoolers. This place would be fucked if all the full time help left.

I personally am too much of a chicken to just tell a job to fuck off. I have always had another job lined up. I am also a graphic designer by degree and in a market that doesn't support my degree. But if you are confident that you could find a job by your last day, then I say go for it!

I'm not so confident that I can find a job in four weeks. And after my extended period of unemployment a few years ago I'm scared of not having a job. But I want to tell her I'm done so badly.

Just get back into putting in applications and resumes everywhere. Once you get one lined up, drop the two weeks notice that day.

I agree with this. I have been unable to find work before (it was a year and half stint) and it is the worst feeling ever. I would make sure my ducks were in a row and 2 weeks is plenty of notice!
my job ends in June and I don't plan on returning next year. However, if I try to find another job before this one ends, I don't get my education award of about 6k to go towards my student loans. It's going to be really tricky to try and line a job up that starts right after this one ends. I most likely won't be able to afford more than 1 week without a paycheck too. pray for me

What do you do currently that ends in June and what is your degree in? I assume your job is associated with whatever you are getting a degree in since you are getting an education award.

Apparently, somebody got fired in another division today. I don't work Fridays, so I didn't get to witness it. Apparently, my work partner went to the bathroom and accidentally walked right past his cube with the head office manager and his supervisor standing over him watching him clean out his stuff. All my office paranoia is ramping up since I have no idea what he did to get fired and people never get fired here.

I work as a program coordinator for Playworks. I basically organize and civilize recess at an elementary school. I also get each class once a week for what looks like a PE class but it's more focused on the social aspect of play instead of the physical skills. My degree is Movement & Sports Studies (basically PE) but I don't want to work for a school.

Ok then. I thought it might be something that I could help you out with... Not so much. Very cool though. I had no idea we had that here in NOLA.
EDIT: Working at a school makes sense why the job wouldn't be here in June. Is there stuff in your field here for you to do after June?

The same thing happened to my sister last week. She saw a guy being escorted out that she described as a great coworker with great numbers. "Why would they fire him?" Then the next day she sent me a news article that the guy got arrested for child pornography.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Yeah I've had numerous employees that weren't fired for performance related reasons. Sometimes people just do stupid crap and cant be kept on.
I seen one guy get fired for drinking in his car on lunch break.
Yup had that one too.
EDIT: Kind of. Also depending on the state that person could likely file for wrongful termination if the company couldnt prove he was intoxicated. All he'd need to claim is that what he does on his lunch break is outside of company policy and that he was not in violation upon returning to work. Similar shit has been settled and paid out before rather than deal with court.

When I worked at Steak and Ale a million years ago, we had this woman named Kim that would go to K&B next door and get a fifth of vodka before every shift. One day she was SO drunk, she took a table's order three times and ended up knocking over a little girl at the salad bar and breaking a plate in half. Instead of getting a broom, she used the broken plate to "sweep" up the salad and broken glass. It was a concrete floor, the sound was worse than nails on a chalkboard. Needless to say, she was fired that day and they confiscated the vodka out of her apron.

We had a guy that would hide booze all around the kitchen and outside in hiding spots. Whenever we tried to fire him he claimed he was an alcoholic. Instead of being fired, he was sent to rehab quite a few times.

My boozy co-worker story involves a guy who was working midnights at the rehab. Some of the patients had told me he smelled like booze in the morning when they got up and it was bothering them. When I asked one of the midnight staff about out, they said he has finally quit passing out in one of the chairs and had taken to stealing a blanket for the linen closet then sleeping in the family therapy room all night. When one of the other midnight shift guys had gone one night to wake him up so he could go to the bathroom, he started yelling at him and threw the box of Kleenex at his head. Needless to say, he didn't last long when management caught wind.
I had a manager get fired from the store where I used to work because her boyfriend was threatening to shoot up the store. He was convinced that she was sleeping around with all the other employees and started sending threatening emails and texts to us. They are married now apparently so it I guess it worked for her.
My boss said she couldn't approve my vacation time for our wedding this far in advance. I teared up in front of her.
GREAT WAY TO END THE DAY!
Does she know it's for your WEDDING?!?
We have an electronic request system, so I told her after she came in to tell me that she couldn't approve it. That's when I teared up.
She came back a couple minutes ago and said she'll put it on her calendar and will approve it in July, and that it shouldn't be a problem. But still, it's going to be mildly/needlessly nerve-wracking to make all these plans before it's officially approved.

Well, you know, doing an administrative override would cause large scale hysteria and disruption in the workplace.
I had a boozy coworker. He was in his late 40s and lived at campgrounds, even in the winter. He'd put booze in coffee and when he walked the cubicle aisles he would focus on a spot on the carpet and walk to it. He had the tiniest feet. Total joke of a human.
I got fired from that job before he did lol.
When you say "boozy coworker," you mean alcoholic, right?
So today ended with passive aggressive Facebook posts that went on all evening before I had a chance to see them. This is beyond ridiculous and I'm almost sick over it because I can't deal with drama; especially the immature, petty, and pointless kind. I feel like I'm in junior high.
