The setlist from Jones Beach (pretty similar to all others....but that encore was insane)
Neil Young solo After the Gold Rush (Neil solo on piano) Heart of Gold Long May You Run Old Man Mother Earth (Natural Anthem)
with Promise of the Real Hold Back the Tears Out on the Weekend Unknown Legend Field of Opportunity Wolf Moon From Hank to Hendrix Harvest Moon Words (Between the Lines of Age) Lookin' for a Love Winterlong A Rock Star Bucks a Coffee Shop People Want to Hear About Love Big Box A New Day for Love Down by the River Workin’ Man Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere Monsanto Years If I Don’t Know Love and Only Love
Encore: Cortez the Killer (Neil Young & Crazy Horse cover) (started at 11:55 pm, 17-minute version)
He's a 69 year old man rocking out 3 hour sets and doing an amazing job. His voice sounds as good as it does on record. Someone behind me at the show said "He had to hook up with the younger guys in the band because all the old guys he plays with can't keep up with him" lol. So awesome.
The new songs were kind of funny with how blunt they are. No metaphors or subtle hints at anything. He's straight up just talking shit about all the bad GMO/corporation stuff. Great songs live, though. Highlights for me were Down By The River and Everybody Knows This is Nowhere. Love those songs.

Really hoping he does Cortez tonight. And Down By The River, because it doesn't seem like it's made it into every setlist.
So I totally forgot about the curfew at Mansfield and Neil had to end his set early. He didn't do an encore, and played for about 2 and a half hours. The show was still killer. Aside from the lyrics the new songs sounded great and there were some awesome jams on some of them. But "Cowgirl In The Sand" was fucking wild. Definitely my favorite of the night. He also did "Helpless" during the solo section instead of "Old Man" which was a cool switch up. Love both songs, but I've heard Old Man on the radio enough times that I was stoked to hear Helpless. No "...River" or "Cortez..." but that just gives me reason to see him again!

Neilfest (Neil Young Tribute show) was last night and tonight. Here's details about last night:
An all-star cast of musicians came together last night to pay tribute to Neil Young at New York's Bowery Ballroom in the first of two shows dubbed "Neilfest." While the ensemble will return to the stage tonight, a few videos have surfaced from the show including a pair of duets between Ryan Adams and Norah Jones. The two singer-songwriters came together for a take on Young's "Cinnamon Girl" as well as an intimate performance of "Old Man."
Watch below and stay tuned for more tomorrow as the second of two nights takes place. Musicians on the bill include Adams, Jones, Butch Walker, Patrick Carney, Elvis Perkins, Jakob Dylan, Nick Zinner, Sharon Van Etten, Ryan Miller and many more.
"Cinnamon Girl"
"Old Man"
Disappointed I couldn't make this work. Would have loved to see these songs.
On my way to Las Vegas tomorrow to see Neil on Sunday. I can't wait! With all the reports here and elsewhere on how good the summer tour was, once this leg was announced I knew that I had to figure out a way to catch it. Neil show #20 for me.

I haven't seen a bad Neil Young (or Neil Young-included) show. Let us know how your Vegas show goes.
The worst would maybe be when he was a little too preachy on the CSNY / Living with War tour but even then I got a killer setlist:
Flags of Freedom (Neil Young song) Carry On Wooden Ships (Crosby, Stills & Nash cover) Long Time Gone (Crosby, Stills & Nash cover) Military Madness (Graham Nash song) After the Garden (Neil Young song) Living With War (Neil Young song) The Restless Consumer (Neil Young song) Shock and Awe (Neil Young song) Wounded World (Stephen Stills song) Almost Cut My Hair Immigration Man (Crosby & Nash cover) Families Déjà Vu Helplessly Hoping (Crosby, Stills & Nash cover) Our House Only Love Can Break Your Heart (Neil Young song) Guinnevere (Crosby, Stills & Nash cover) Milky Way Tonight (Crosby & Nash cover) Treetop Flyer (Stephen Stills song) Roger and Out (Neil Young song) Southbound Train (Crosby & Nash cover) Ole Man Trouble (Otis Redding cover) Carry Me (Crosby & Nash cover) Southern Cross (Crosby, Stills & Nash cover) Find the Cost of Freedom
Encore:
Let's Impeach the President (Neil Young song) For What It's Worth (Buffalo Springfield cover) Chicago Ohio What Are Their Names (David Crosby song) Rockin' in the Free World (Neil Young song)

I agree - no such thing as a bad Neil show. Just varying degrees of good to great. I saw that same CSNY tour - not at the top of my list of Neil shows but they only time I have seen CSNY and I very much enjoyed it.

Report on the Las Vegas show. Can’t believe it’s almost two weeks. I’ve been busy and traveling so haven’t had a chance to post this until now.
On reflection, I fell into the trap of raised expectations. All the reports I read had me expecting something epic and it didn’t quite live up to that. It was mostly good and occasionally great but not epic.
Promise of the Real seems better suited to the heavier songs. Lukas Nelson is very talented but still a bit raw. He’s an excellent guitarist though doesn’t always know what to do with it. He sang lead on one song and has a really good voice that sounds more than a little like his father.
I know they’ve been compared to Crazy Horse and I can see it with the bass player and drummer. However, Lukas is much more of a lead guitarist than Poncho and Neil let him play more lead than anyone else I have ever seen play with Neil (other than Stephen Stills).
Highlights included fantastic solos on “Cowgirl in the Sand” and “Love and Only Love”, a rare “Burned”, and “Words”.
I’m not quite sure what to say about the new songs. A couple were quite good musically but my god, the lyrics. I won’t hold him to the high standards of 30-40 years ago but I would hope he could do better than that. My wife couldn’t stop laughing at some of them. Hell, “Let’s Impeach the President” is subtle and nuanced by comparison.
While not in the top half of Neil shows I’ve seen, I still enjoyed it and am glad I made the trip.
Since this was my 20th show with Neil and Inforoo seems to like nothing more than a good list, I’m going to put together a ranking for those shows to share with you all bore you all with.
That has them moving the right direction but its also the week my final project is due. If there is a show in AZ or within 8ish hours drive that following weekend im there

they are both playing at beale street first weekend in may, so they go back east after that TX date.

I just realized my chances of seeing Neil + Promise of the Real are slim. I was thinking BSMF was the week following Levitation. I guess I'm not used to two days of it being in April. So Neil will be in Memphis and New Orleans while I'm at Levitation and the New Braunfels date with Lucinda is on a Tuesday before Levitation. That would require me taking a week off, which I don't want to do, or two trips to Central TX in the same week. I was really excited about Neil being down here for some shows, but it's not worth skipping Psych Fest for me. Maybe something else will work out.

I was reading a listicle on Neil in Rolling Stone and saw this tidbit
Few people would dispute that Neil Young reached the peak of his critical and commercial career in the 1970s. But that doesn't mean his output since then has been underwhelming. He's maintained a tireless work ethic over the past 36 years, boldly leaping from genre to genre with little regard for what seems like a safe bet in the marketplace. This June he will release Earth, his sixth album in just five years. We figured it was a perfect time to poll our readers and determine their favorite Young tunes since the 1970s.

I hadn't heard the name but I saw a brief description somewhere. Something about it being different than anything he has recorded and more like a long jammed out live experience. I can only imagine it's arc but with Neil reading your crazy hippie aunt's Facebook comments about how Monsanto is using gmos and chemtrails to get trump elected

New album Earth up for preorder
98 uninterrupted minutes long, EARTH flows as a collection of 13 songs from throughout my life, songs I have written about living here on our planet together. Our animal kingdom is well represented in the audience as well and the animals, insects, birds and mammals actually take over the performances of the songs at times. – Neil
I can only imagine it's arc but with Neil reading your crazy hippie aunt's Facebook comments about how Monsanto is using gmos and chemtrails to get trump elected plus that random animal noise white noise CD said crazy aunt uses to sleep at night
Got that 2 hours in yesterday. Write up is in the jazz fest thread but it was pretty incredible. Walls of distortion and feedback and an > 30 minutes Cortez the Killer.
