I feel really dumb after reading this. This is my first year and I budgeted $800 for the weekend and I'm bringing food and booze. Oh well guess I'll just have to buy a lot more stuff!
Don't feel dumb. I don't know how many people you have in your group or if it's just you, but it's POSSIBLE to go through that much cash. If you have a $15 meal three times a day in Centeroo, that's $240. If you drink one beer every couple of hours, that's $168. If you have just regular drinks a few times a day, add another $60. Maybe it's hot so you buy a $30 water slide pass. Throw in a Roo t-shirt, a poster and a band shirt and you're looking at another $75. If you decide to hit Shakedown Street for some stuff that isn't available in Centeroo, you could easily reach $800. And then you won't have cash for the Festicab ($5 one way) when you sprain your ankle in the dark.

Haha yeah, I'm pretty frugal and don't eat a whole lot in general but I guess I'd rather have too much money than too little. I just plan on getting 250-300 cash out and keep the rest on reserve just in case I need it. This thread helped a lot though I'm super pumped for my first experience!

So if I was buying anything over 30 monies (like posters and art prints) I would use my debit card. Which made me think, "hey look at all this cash! You haven't spent anything yet!!! You're doing so well!! Go buy yourself a beer"

The first yet I found it was only at the beer tent/bar type thing right beside Ferris Wheel. But last year it was at the Ferris wheel one, the one in front of This Tent and the one over by which stage. Oh! And it was in the brooers tent.
I feel like that was the worst description ever. BUT morale of the story is that is was pretty much everywhere last year and it was like sweet manna from heaven.
I'm lucky enough to have 3 meals of catering each day so that will save me some serious cash. I'd still probably skip a meal or two for centeroo food to avoid the walk to the catering tent. Last year we had so much beer that I only had to buy like 2.
so really:
$10 food per day = $40 $7 beer per day = $28 ________for roo = $50 (worked fine for me last year, everyone had enough to share) random shiiii = $50 (lets say I blow 50 bucks on roadtrip food + dumb stuff)
TOTAL = $168 not baaaad yoooo.
Idk how much this will help anyone else seeing as my roo situation is different from most, but it helped me get it all together in my head.

No, dont feel dumb. This just means you can have extra fun. I got a friend that spends $500 just on party favors. If you budgeted for it...then spend it and have a blast. Buy your new friends a beer...lol
Besides buying some camping gear that I can use whenever - I only spent $35 my entire Bonnaroo '13 trip, all on food. Time to buy Mountain Oasis tickets with my left over 'roo money!!
I got to the farm on Sunday for prefest volunteer, and made it thru to this Sunday on $65. I brought lots of food and water and had great neighbors and friends who let me eat some of their food too!!
We bought/brought way too much stuff that we didn't use to our first 'Roo this year. We ended up only having Pop Tarts, apples and beef jerky for breakfast at our site, and then loaded up our back pack with water bottles, Clif Bars, and a few pbj's. We also discovered that a backpack with a laptop pocket on the side provides an excellent, never-searched, insulated space capable of holding as many as 8 cans of one's preferred beverage. We only sprung for dinner in Centeroo (Spicy Pie twice, thanks Inforoo!), dropping about $20 a day, except for Sunday, when we skipped dinner. Add in my son's t-shirt, and our cash spending was less than $100 for the duration. A taxi ride out to Pod 10 would have been nice on a few of those late nights, but we pushed through. Awesome experience that we can't wait to repeat.
I spent maybe $75 the whole weekend - I ate in Centeroo three times, plus had a couple of coffees. I only ate one significant meal a day (snacked at camp a bit on granola bars and the like) and I didn't do any shopping (although I browsed a bit). That being said, I'll still take a decent amount when I return. This was my first year so I took it really easy on a lot of things, but next time I'd like to try more vendors and possibly purchase some of the amazing art available from vendors.

I only spent about $100 at Roo 2013. I had budgeted $200 or so more than that but the $200 speeding ticket I got on the way (thanks a lot, Columbus, OH police) really curtailed my spending. Good thing I packed what I thought would be extra food.
The ticket was for entering a 45mph work zone at 57mph, with a semi on my rear bumper as I was trying to get into the right lane and slow down. I took issue with this ticket for the following reasons: it was my first speeding ticket in 20+ years of driving, I had literally never seen a 45mph work zone on an interstate (only 50/55), there was a big rig tailgating me in a dangerous fashion while I was trying to comply with the limit, the motorcycle cop was hiding behind a minivan that he had previously ticketed and was not even through dealing with (dangerous!), he would not answer any questions, and he made a rude, discriminatory comment relating to where I was from. I wanted so badly to fight that ticket but the court date was only ten days out, I live over 2 hours from Columbus, I didn't think I could get out of work on such short notice, a lawyer was out of the question, and the unhelpful clerk rep I later spoke to on the phone was evasive and pretty much refused to issue a later court date. That cop was also acting in an unsafe manner: pulling people over before while others were still there and not allowing enough notice to prevent drivers from having to slam on their brakes in traffic. Plus he looked at my insurance card, front and back, and still marked that I had not presented proof of insurance!
Beware passing through the cesspool known as Columbus, Ohio, as they seem to have their revenue enforcement tactics quite well refined. Even without the doubling of the $50 fine due to the work zone enhancement, the citation for a mere 12mph over the limit (yep, 57mph on an interstate) would have been $150, including a ridiculous $100 in court costs that you must pay even if you don't go to court and pay the money online!
So my apologies to the good vendors of Bonnaroo and to the businesses and tax base of Coffee County, TN, the extortionists in Columbus beat you to my wallet this time. And my apologies to Inforoo, but I felt I needed to explain my meager spending when I had hoped to eat more tasty vendor meals and buy more than two stinking beers in Centeroo. (Of course I drank more than two beers inside, but smuggling is not something I will go into here)

Only two purchased inside by me this year, due to late-arising money concerns. I have my canned beer smuggling techniques just about down to a science now, though the one day they were basically doing body cavity searches at the What entrance so I walked around to the Arch. They were taking sooo long with the searches going into What early on Saturday, I think, that the line was really starting to get backed up. That was contrasted by the searches at the arch, where you normally had about a 90% chance of getting a keg, a 7-foot bong, a nuke or a whole beer truck through the gate most of the time. Hell, I remember one time last year when the line at the ferris wheel entrance got so backed up that they completely stopped searching people for a while and told us to all just keep moving, so I guess it is accurate to say the searches vary greatly.
That said, I really wanted to spend some time in the Broo tent and spend more rather than drink on the walk in and have to be secretive. I justify my actions by saying that Bonnaroo did NOT lose sales due to me bringing a few cans in - had I been caught there still would not have been more beer money in my budget. Oh well, maybe next time.
I'm super pumped for my first experience!
