Duke isn't closing any gap. When is the last time Miami did anything? We got a top 15 class, only signing 17 plus 5 walk ons. If it was a full class we would have definitely been top 10. I'm good.
Why was it not a full class? Just curious.
Also, if you look at the average from Rivals, Clemson had a 3.32 average for their recruits which is .26 lower than any of the teams in the top ten (Florida had a 3.58), so I am not sure that just getting more recruits would have pushed them into the top 10 without having an increase in the quality of the recruits as well.
because we only had 17 scholarships available. all of the other highly ranked classes are pulling in 20+ guys, some 25+. we had 10 4 stars, which would put us about 10th or 11th. if we were able to sign more we would have definitely been in the top 10. just look around, you're not going to see anything negative at all about our class. it's a great class, just small. as far as FSU goes they always out recruit us, if you go by these rankings that are made before the players even step on campus. Miami usually gets higher rated classes as well. but this hasn't resulted in them being better than us (until FSU this year and that was just a special team)

Whose fault is it that you only had that many scholarships available?

no one's?
Are you really this dumb, Sang? It's Clemson's fault. They know the fixed number of scholarships, so "only having 15" or whatever shows they've been too liberal with their scholarships. It's their own fault, you dunce.
You must have been one of the few STSers that believed what Dabo was spewing when he said they would have beaten FSU 5 out of 10 times.
no, but they're not really that much better than us. that was just a really bad day.
I would agree with that, but I also see that the 'process' Jimbo preaches is finally coming to fruition and as good as Winston is, the play (and recruiting edge) of FSU's offensive and defensive lines is really what separates them from the rest of the ACC. I also tend to agree with Rob Ford that Miami is closer to Clemson than Clemson is to FSU.

everyone has a process. Dabo has a process. and it's been very successful. we're moving in the right direction, definitely not falling behind. idk if Miami is even the 4th best team in the ACC. not sure what you guys are seeing, but they haven't been anything but a name for a while now.

you really don't know what you're talking about. some years you have smaller classes. you can't sign 25 every year because you only have 85 scholarships.

I am fully aware how it works. Your original comment is what's wrong, not my understanding of the college scholarship system where each team gets a flat total of 85 scholarships if they're in the FBS, barring changes made as the resuly disciplinary action.
Clemson having the # of scholarships available to them is their own doing, so when you say they have a "half class" it is no one's fault but their own.

it's not a fault. you fill whatever you have available for that year. Clemson didn't have a bunch of seniors this year, so they were only like 17 spots open. next year there will be more.

What site do you use for your rankings? Rivals is listing 7 4 stars for you, but I know well how differently sites rank people. I am not saying your class is terrible by any stretch of the imagination. It's just that other teams have better ones. A #13 class is something you can be excited about as long as you are filling all the gaps you have.
I will add this, I am okay with our class. I thought it could have been worse, especially seeing how many players we have transferring. I think the 2014 class is a good rebuilding class. I see a nice QB and CB, both of whom will get some playing time next year, along with other recruits. I see a few OT and OG and happy to see that, Coach Simmons has some work to do, but if we can fix our OL problems, aka block someone, we have the opportunity to do some damage in the SEC, also want throw out this name Trenton Brown. If you missed him last season, you will not miss him this year, 6'8"-360lbs. We were not as bad of a team as we looked last year. At the end of the season, I have my reasons, but I jumped on coach Boom, I know UF had a a lot of injuries, we were beat the F up last year, but if Muschamp does not produce this year, then he needs to go. I have other concerns for UF football, like frequent injuries, players transferring, coaches flow, but for now I am just chalking those up to late night paranoia and believing each event is independent of the others and all can be fixed with a simple change in technique and philosophy and the power of positive thinking. I am trying to say that after some reflection, I think Gators will produce this year. We have some offensive weapons that are just waiting to explode! We have 2 tough away games this year, but beyond that our schedule favors us with LSU, USC and Mizzou all at home. Go Gators!
Before you get too worked up, I'm not saying Duke is about to pass Clemson in program prestige, but if you have been paying attention at all over the last few seasons you can't say they aren't closer to the big boys than they were 5 years ago.

Duke is definitely better than they use to be. but FSU and Clemson are still far ahead of the rest of the league.

It's FSU, THEN Clemson, Sang. Please stop acting like your boys are equals with a team that thumped them by 40 points.

until this year the home team has won the game (for the last 10 years). we're pretty much even. I even said earlier they're slightly ahead. that's all you're going to get from me.

I don't care if that's all you'll "give me," you're laughably wrong.
"slightly" ahead while returning the Heisman Trophy winner. That's logical.
I don't care what happened 8 years ago, of which exactly zero players remain on either team. Last year matters, because FSU kicked Clemson's teeth in and the biggest reason why they did that is still on the Seminoles. Clemson has a big gap to make up, no amount of telling yourself otherwise will change that.

They won the National Championship. They destroyed pretty much every team they played. I've already said it was a special team and a special year. But that doesn't mean that they're light years ahead. They were 1st in the conference, we were 2nd. They won the title, we finished 7th or 8th or whatever. Not a huge gap. Believe what you want.

What about getting curb stomped to the tune of 40 points?
The Jets were 2nd place this year, were they close to over-taking the Pats? That is not sound reasoning, Sang.

yea, I would have to say they are close. this year could be the Jets year (I doubt it, but it's possible) and this year could be Clemson's year. some time soon it's going to be our year, we've been building towards it. we've been getting better every year, improving depth, improving the defense, we're right there in the mix with the best teams in the country.

Sang, it's great that you're attributing to the improved depth on the Clemson football team, but everything you just said above is being done in Tallahassee, only better than it's being done in Clemson. Again, how do you justify these comments you're making? FSU was better last year, they're getting a better recruiting class, they have a better current roster....

They had an amazing year, but they're not going to repeat that every year. I don't see them getting back to where they use to be when they always dominated. They did that while Clemson was down. The point you're either missing or trying to deny is that Clemson is not down, far from it they are the best they have ever been and getting better. FSU will have their years and Clemson will have theirs. Maybe even another team from the conference could come back up to where they're supposed to be like Miami, VT or UNC. Louisville is going to be good. If you're expecting a cake walk for FSU you're mistaken.

So your reason why FSU isn't going to be just as good next year is because Clemson, who they dismantled in embarrassingly easy fashion, is "not down?"
And if FSU, who is better than Clemson based on the opinion of everyone besides you, shouldn't expect a cake walk, how does that mean Clemson, a team that was worse last year and isn't closing the gap via recruiting, is closing the gap? I'm dying to know your logic here, Sang.

why do think you think FSU is really 35 pts better than Clemson? I'd love to hear your logic on that one. Just because they were on that day doesn't mean that's how wide the gap between the teams really is. you play good games and you play bad games. the same Clemson team beat a very good (top 5) Ohio St team. shit happens.
