Neither conference is ever going to fulfill their full allotment, lets be honest here.
I think the allotment for any single year is 10. some of the tie ins are either/or or they can only play in these bowls once every 2-4 years in a rotatin. they can't really have 14 teams in bowl games.

Yea, it'll vary by year. And there are different stipulations depending on dates, other bowls, whether teams are in the playoff, etc.
I agree that the top end of the ACC, i.e. Clemson and FSU, doesn't get the credit it deserves. I spent 10 minutes this morning trying to convince a co-worker that, no matter what he thinks, UGA-Clemson is the most important game in week 1 because of how it affects the National Championship hunt.
For sang_xcx, "Since 1996, the ACC has gone 50-77 against the SEC, and hasn’t had a winning record against it since 2003 (5-4)." Also, lulz @ hanging your hat on beating Mississippi State and Vanderbilt (pre-Franklin).

See, I read the 50-77 a bit differently. Thats 40%. Not that bad, really. Especially if you factor in the overblow perception of the SEC. I don't think anyone disputes the SEC being the best football conference. Its just how much better (as a league from top to bottom) they really are.

Clemson is 15-16 vs SEC in that time.
So one of your top two teams is sub .500 against the SEC?
So one of your top two teams is sub .500 against the SEC?
we play SEC teams every year. other than when we played Bama, there is no wide gap. we almost beat Auburn the year they won the title, only lost because of a missed FG. we compete with them toe to toe, that's the point.

The point is that, as you have stated previously, one of the ACC's top flight team is sub .500 against the whole of the SEC.
Historically, would the ACC even be in the top 3 conferences?
In football? No way. SEC, Pac-10, Big 10, Big 12 all historically better as a football conference. I mean that's my thinking off the top of my head. Just looked up # of National Championships by conference (I know that's just one measure), as they are constructed today, and it's the same:
1/Big 10 2/SEC 3/Big 12 4/Pac-10 5/ACC
Interestingly, if you use this measure, speaking historically, Maryland is as important as FSU.

I wish we were in the conference because I get tired of this argument.
I've never said the SEC isn't the best conference. I've never said the ACC is anywhere near as good as the SEC or even that it's a good conference. but I do argue that the SEC is so far ahead, because I've seen enough to know the truth. the SEC does have many advantages, it's not an even playing field. yet somehow we manage to battle them for recruits and battle them toe to toe on the field. if you knew the size of the schools and the take into account all the advantages that SEC schools have it's pretty damn impressive that we can compete with them at all.
I've never said the SEC isn't the best conference.
Yes you have
I've never said the ACC is anywhere near as good as the SEC

or even that it's a good conference.
Yes you have
nope. I've said that they're not as good as the hype because it's just a few schools that are dominating and the rest riding the coattails. I've said that those teams that are at the top have lots of advantages, there is media bias towrds them which guarantees that they keep those advantges. as far the ACC goes, I know I have never said anything of the sort, I know that other than Clemson and FSU the ACC sucks. Miami is their way back, Louisville is coming in, so that will help a little. but VT and UNC need to get back to where they have been to make the league more respectable. I've said many times I wish were in the SEC, Clemson and FSU should be there because they operate like they are already.
I remember one argument in particular where you tried your best to convince me that maryland/duke/BC et al were a better lower tier of teams than the SEC had. That was a good one.

I may have said the bottom of the ACC is just as good as the bottom of the SEC. because it's true. there are some really bad teams in the SEC.

Yo Lucien, you eat snails? Sounds like this measure is allergic. To your credit, you did mention that it is but one measure.
EDIT: I really don't disagree after looking at this. I was just anxious to show off my new avatard.

I specifically remember this argument because it was in chat with @ntellier85 where you said it. We repeatedly asked for what conference was better then laughed our balls off when you said the Big 12.

Love snails. Escargots de Bourgogne is the bomb. The maitre d'hotel at Le Procope insisted I try them and I'm glad I did. Still have trouble using the prongs/fork combination though.

top to bottom it probably is. Oklahoma, Ok St, Texas, TCU, Baylor, Kan St, WV, Tex Tech, Iowa St are all solid programs. 9/10 > 7/14?
