How can Richt (who I like) say that with a straight face? JJ Watt might have had the best DL season in the history of the NFL last year, but because Clowney racked up 4.5 sacks against Clemson he's the best player alive? Puh-lease.

I think it's the Michigan hit that really sent the hype train into overdrive. Don't get me wrong. I think he's a great player but f*ck. Pump the brakes there, Richt.

Honestly, I think this is just coach-speak and an attempt by Richt to blow smoke up S.C.'s ass before they play in Week 2.
Clowney is going to one of the best 3rd down pass rushers ever. but he won't even be an every down player in the NFL. watch their games against LSU and Fla last year, run the ball right at him and he's pretty much equalized.

Dude, what? I realize he can be somewhat-neutralized by running at him, but so can every pass rusher in college football, basically throughout its entire history. That's my point with Richt's comments. NO college player is a complete player, a finished product.
But if you think Clowney goes top-2 overall to just play 3rd downs you are high off your ass, dude. They're going to teach him to set the edge properly, he's not an undersized player there is absolutely no excuse for him to not influence the run defense as much as the pass defense.

I'm basing it off of what he is right now. but they say he's already bigger and stronger than last year. the NFL will still how to teach him to play agaInst the run. right now that's his only weakness. also he tends to take plays off. when he wants to make a play, there's not many people who could stop him.

He can take plays off in the NFL, he'll just get his ass handed to him by bigger and stronger men.
If he puts forth the effort, he'll be a monster. If he's lazy and wants to rack up sacks and skate by against the run? He'll be a very famous and noteworthy player who gets 15+ sacks every year, but will never win because he'll eat up tons of cap space without being a complete player.

Oh sheesh. So, after Johnny Football tweeted about his dislike for College Station and said he couldn't wait to get out, he tried to attend a frat party at University of Texas where he was promptly kicked out. You can see him leaving in a soaked shirt narrowly missing a beer can to the head.
Love seeing this first thing in the morning. And absolutely love the ending of the write-up.
College Football's 20 Most Explosive Playmakers for 2013
2. Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson
Assuming he's fully healthy and fully focused off the field, Watkins should return to his 2011 form. As a true freshman, he posted one of the best first seasons in NCAA history by catching 82 passes for 1,219 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing for 231 yards on 32 attempts and scoring on one of his 32 kickoff returns. His numbers regressed last year due to nagging injuries and a lack of focus off the field. If those issues are behind him, Watkins is the Maserati of wideouts playing in the Ferrari of offensive schemes.

Edit: custeph, Let's try that again. Also, here's the article on bleacherreport that has some nice stills. link
That shit sells. My 11 year old is just as obsessed with Clemson as I am, but he will tell you if he can't get into Clemson (yes, he dreams of playing football, which I really don't see happening), he wants to go to Oregon. They are his 2nd favorite team, for no reason other than Phil Knight's many, many contributions.

For sure. More than any other team I can think of, Oregon has done a great job in their recruiting with tapping into the fact that you are recruiting 16 or 17 year old guys to your team. Tradition is great and all, but image is going to be a big attraction to them.
Just another shining beacon of hypocrisy from the NCAA.
Welcome to college sports. Where its a violation for sending out a letter without the right color and design to recruits, but you can build the f*cking Taj Mahal on campus and its not considered an unfair advantage.
