sang_xcx I like your optimism but I don't think the Texans will ever win it all with Schaub as QB. Our offensive has a shelf life of 2 maybe 3 yrs. Andre Johnson is 32, Arian Foster is 26 and has had injury problems and is currently injured right now. This may be the last year that Arian could be considered an elite RB. And I'm not too sure who your referring to as the 2nd WR? The rookie out of Clemson DeAndre Hopkins. Im not sold on him yet so we'll have to see. Our defensive is above average but nothing special. Yes we do have the best defensive player in the game in JJ Watt, but out secondary is average at best (did you see the Aaron Rodgers light us up for 5 TD's on MNF)
Bottom line is Schaub has already peaked as a player and I don't see him leading us past the Broncos or Broncos. Also Gary Kubiak is a horrible horrible play caller
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.

Johnson and Foster are still performing at a high level. I agree that it has to happen in the next 2-3 years. You're not sold on Nuk because you haven't seen him play yet. you will love him. that's going to be a dangerous combination.
I'm not sure what's funny. if you're doubting that Hopkins is going to be a very productive NFL WR, then I will be the one laughing.
I am laughing because you just lumped a rookie WR from the ACC in with one of the best WRs in the NFL's history.
Also 'lol-worthy' is that you're predicting a late-round WR to be an unquestioned stud when WR is easily the hardest position to predict future success at.
The Texans have one very, very, very good WR and a bunch of unproven young guys. Factoring Hopkins in at this point is just misleading.

I'm expecting the same thing from him that Houston is, you know the reason he was drafted in the 1st Rd. he is going to be a great compliment to Johnson. if they double team Johnson and leave Nuk open, he is going to hurt them. Houston has needed a WR like that and now they have one. I'm pretty confident in that.
Shhh. Saying that name above is like uttering "Voldemort" around here.
What did Rod do that I am not remembering?
Oh nothing evil - I was kidding. In fact, nothing really worth remembering at all. He's just one of many great college players that we've drafted over the past 12 years who were busts.

Yep, and Washington took him 15th overall rather than Hopkins spot at 27th. I recognize that it's mostly irrational, but Rod's failure has caused me to lose all faith in any Clemson WRs panning out.
EDIT: And sadly, Rod is one of the top 3 most successful WRs to come out of Clemson.

we don't have a history of throwing the ball a lot until Chad Morris got here. Nuk (or Sammy Watkins who is still there) are by far the best WR's we've ever had.
This picture made me respect Rex Ryan a little more. I cant think of many professional coaches in any sport who would stop to take a picture with a fan who's wearing a shirt dissing the coaches team.

He Rex is a genuinely great person, which is why I hate when everyone trashes him. The team holds the first 2 weeks of training camp at SUNY Cortland and Rex does a lot of fan-mingling since the town is so small and the team/fans all end up at the same places most nights. I have yet to hear a "Rex was a d*ck" story.
I love Rex and if he's fired after this year I will be legitimately devastated. Good thing the Jets are making the playoffs and he's not getting fired.

Brutal. Mike Freeman, who covers the NFL for CBS, said in his 20 years of covering the NFL he can't remember a more injury plagued start to training camp, ever.

Nobody can deny Rex is on the hot seat this season. What is the minimum he has to do to keep his job in your estimation?
So Pitta, Maclin and Koppen are already done for the season before the first preseason game. That has to be some kind of tragic record.
There's also some lesser-known guys like Aaron Berry (Jets) and Jonas Mouton (Chargers) who tore ACLs, plus Jahvid Best and Ryan Swope who are both done (or likely done in Best's case) for their careers due to concussion issues.
Lot of guys getting hurt in the first couple of days.

I don't think there's any set criteria he has to meet, Idzik seems like the most level-headed human on the planet so I think it's going to be more a product of the direction the team is headed.
Example: The team starts DerpyPoops Sanchez and go 1-3 before going to Geno. The team ends up 7-9 behind a top-5 defense and an inconsistent offense. I think Rex keeps his job in that scenario, he is above-.500 with the QB-of-the-future and proves all his high draft picks on defense were worth it.
Now, if the team starts out 4-1 (I know it's unlikely, bear with me though) and then finishes at that same 7-9 and the team is playing uninspired football while their season washes away? I think he probably loses his job.
I think what saves him is what invariably always saves him: defense and his ability to motivate his players. I'm just telling everyone now, don't say I didn't warn you about the Jets pass rush.

Is Geno starting an inevitability this year or is that just a scenario you are throwing out?
I think it's inevitable. He's already neck-and-neck with Sanchez and has been in an NFL offense for about 10 seconds. He has a better arm, handles the pressure better, has that threat to run and seems to have a good connection with last year's 2nd rounder (Stephen Hill), which is nice since Sanchez went out of his way to not throw Hill good passes last year.
I like the boxing style of scoring this competition (it's a mechanism a lot of the beat writers are using). In that sense, with 4 days of practice it's 39-38 Geno (Geno won 2 days, Mark won 1, they were pretty even the other day).
Yeah, but Flanz, the league is turning into an offensive league. Lovie Smith just got canned here in Chicago after going 10-6, as a great defensive mind, and someone who is great at motivating his players. Obviously that doesn't mean that the same will happen in New York, but GMs want to see results on the offensive side of the ball.

I think Lovie got fired in part because it just feels like that team has maxed out. You're starting to see some turnover in the defense and Cutler has consistently only gotten so far.
Not saying I agree with all of that, and I personally would not have canned him, I just think that's the perception.
