I just discovered football-reference.com when looking for the top wr's in Clemson's history. today I've been looking at the pro site. and this just blew my mind... Kerry Collins passed for more yds than Montana and Unitas.

And he lived in strip clubs and was drunk his whole career. That makes it more impressive

While we're discussing the state of our current teams, how does everyone feel about the Eagles this year? It's certainly one of the more interesting offseason stories IMO. There's so much potential matched with so much uncertainty.
I'll give my Panthers/Jets opinions when I'm not feeling quite so lazy.

Chip has been great for them, but it'll be interesting to see how the media machine wears him down over the year. He reminds me of a young Rex, full of fire and whatnot. I think the Iggles surprise some folks and win 8/9+ games. The Maclin ACL injury obviously sucks, but I think they go heavy on the Shady McCoy this year for a change. And it'll be funny to watch people try to figure out how one of the worst OL's became one of the best seemingly over night.

Looks like Matt Barkley is getting more snaps than Foley in practice. Is Foley injured? Chip's offense could revitalize Vick's career, until he gets hurt.

Its going to be Vick, I think. It has to, at least to start the season. And I think a McCoy heavy offense will help him, especially cutting down on the hits.

I'm hoping Philadelphia remains in the dumpster just so it's one less team for Washington to worry about. If not, I hope at the very least they let Dallas take their dumpster spot.

I really like what I've seen from Chip. Andy Reid get's alot of love around the league, but It's really hard to understand how stubborn and sometimes illogical the guy could be unless you watched him go from game to game. It's so refreshing to see a guy go about this job with such a sense of logic. I have the Eagles slotted in the 6-8 range for this year. The lack of a defense, combined with a lack of great QB will lead to us losing some shootouts and close games. Hopefully improvements to the secondary in the offseason next year are enough to put us in playoff position. The Maclin injury sucks, but we had so many question marks going into the season (especially for next season), that this may turn out to work in our favor.
Maclin was on a contract year, and Desean is already signed up long term for quite a pretty penny. I highly doubt the Eagles would have been willing to pay both players huge salaries. Now, the Eagles might be able to sign Maclin to a 1 year, incentive-laden "prove yourself" deal. We weren't going anywhere this year anyway. Now I think it's pretty realistic to have both Desean and Maclin for next year. Also, between Avant (criminally underrated slot reciever), Benn (who we traded for), Cooper (big athletic project from 3(?) years ago), Momah (6'7" WR), D. Johnson (Desean clone), and Sheppard (who's been amazing at camp), we were going to have to get rid of some potentially good recievers anyway. Now, we can keep one or 2 more and let it play out.
And you're completely right about the OL. We have 7 guys that could start around the league, and 3 of them are near the best at their position. If Lane Johnson is even remotely good, this run game should be devastating. Look out for B. Brown and C. Polk to get some serious carries this year as well. It's going to be alot of fun watching us turn into a smashmouth, run first football team. With the rest of the league built to pass and stop the pass, I like our chances on changing direction pretty quickly.

Chip Kelly - 49 years old Rex Ryan - 50 years old
Is Philly any closer to figuring out a QB yet?
Unfortunately no. Apparently Foles was the clear winner of OTA's, but after reports from the first few days of camp, Vick seems to be closing the gap. I personally would rather Foles, just because I think he's got a real shot at developing. I see a very young, very raw B. Roethlisberger type of QB. He's a very bright kid, with loads of football IQ. Match that up with a huge frame and unbelievable pocket presence and I think you've got something.

I haven't seen anything that says that. If anything, I've read conflicting reports. While it would quite the fairy tale, I just don't see how anybody could do enough to change our stubborn, 33 year old QB. He's still the same old Vick.

I was just browsing through ESPN's Scorecenter headlines and saw mention of Vicks 30 plus snaps and Barkleys 30 plus without any acknowledgement of Foles throwing. And you're probably right about Vick, ke has been declining for a few years now. Just thinking the scheme may refresh him a bit and would expect with his experience for him to be the quickest of the three QBs to pick it up.
That's a pretty fair summary of the Iggles' current situation. The only thing I'd say is you're probably a little too high on the WR's, they're a good group, but you might be expecting too much from the young guys. And Riley Cooper is poops. But other than that I pretty much agree.

A-F*&king-men.
But good luck with that defense this year .
Yeah, Washington is still going to have some problems on D, but the return of Orakpo and Merriweather along with some new blood in the secondary should help a little. The biggest and most important addition was the subtraction of Madoodoo Williams.
I hate Philadelphia the least among the other NFC East teams, so it's not that I necessarily want it to be them in the dumpster. It just needs to be somebody.

I'm thinking Dallas at least improves on D with Kiffin taking over as coordinator over Rob Ryan even though they lost some quality players on that side of the ball. Too many times I witnessed teams abuse Ryan's heavy blitzing scheme, especially all the times McCoy broke off big gains to the side Ware was rushing from. If Murray, Bryant and Austin can stay healthy and Romo limits the errant INT's they could make a push for a playoff spot in a tough conference.

As much as I despise Dallas, I would not be a bit surprised if they won the East this year. Despite the sh*t people talk about them, they've been in the "Division Championship game" the last two years.

From what I've seen reported, Foles and Vick have been evenly splitting the live snaps with first and second string, while Barkley plays strictly with the 3's. Vick in Kelly's Oregon system would have been really interesting to watch, but the NFL version might be a little different. Kelly has harped on skills such as accuracy, decision making, holding on to the ball, and reading defenses. These are easily the weakest parts of Vick's game, and probably the strongest parts of Foles'. It's going to be interesting to see if Vick truly is an "old dog", or if he's actually capable of learning any new tricks.

After re-reading it, I definitely come of as a little too optimistic . Basically, we had so many question marks about the WR position after Desean and Maclin that it's fitting to let the competition continue into the season, because 1 or 2 of those guys could emerge as solid #2 or #3 recievers. And ftr, yeah, I don't expect Cooper to be one of those guys.
All I know about the NFC East is that it will produce 4 teams randing from "semi-kinda-okay" to "mediocre" to "almost-terrible." The team that wins it will go 9-7 or at best 10-6, you'll have two other teams in the 9-7 to 7-9 range, and then one who goes 6-10 or 5-11. The division winner will lose in their first playoff game. The division will receive 55% of ESPN's football coverage.
This is completely true.
And very fitting for a division packed with history and long lasting rivalries (and crappy defenses).

If the team that wins the east goes 9-7 it's because of the stiff competition with bitter rivals they face throughout the season. I expect all the teams to have a winning season, maybe Dallas or Philly go 8-8 or fall below the .500 mark, but only one of them.

Not as long standing as the North, but all the NFC East teams are normally in competition for the playoffs, especially since we got rid of the Cardinals.

The Eagles could easily be a 5 or 6 win team. If any of the 3 remaining teams have a big injury, they could just as easily.

I'm so relieved to see a sensible eagles fan.... All of my friends are consistently convinced year in and year out that they are going to the super bowl. Literally last night at a bar, my one friend was ranting on and on about chip kelly changing pro football and probably gonna make at least the NFC championship. I had to shake my head and bite my tongue.

F*ck Dallas.
In the end though, no matter what happens on defense, the entire season depends on the knee of Robert Griffin III. If it doesn't hold up though, I'd more than happy to pass the torch . I also hate the Redskins the least. I've seen you guys suffer enough haha. While we're stinking it up, I'd like to see the RGIII and Skins hold the division.

they'll be bad as the Jets, probably worse.
I'd agree that they're in the same boat. They could each win 4 games, or they could squeeze into the playoffs (more likely for the Jets though in that putrid AFC).

I think it also helps that the NFC East doesn't have two teams that perennially are a lock to miss the playoffs (Bills, Phins) and a third that is the laughing stock of the NFL. Instead, all four teams in the NFL East have enough raw talent on their rosters such that a playoff appearance wouldn't be a surprise.
Jesus.
You guys are completely unreasonable about the NFC East.

A lot of Eagles fan are just as sick of it as you are, trust me. Hell, our own team has been doing this for the past few years. Eagles fans saw the Steve Spurrier debacle first hand. They should know better...

Well, we will probably see 3 teams from the NFC east make the playoffs and the Pats being the lone representative of the AFC East.
