What I love about the new Daft Punk album is that it is not Daft Punk (according to most fans). When I heard it at first, I was like "Where on earth is the Daft Punk that I know? After the second listen, I was like "This is AMAZING!!"
The track Giorgio by Moroder pretty much says it all for me.
I am soooo with you. This album has gotten better and better and better for me. I really love Beyond into Motherboard. The ocean part from Beyond and the water sounds in Motherboard. They just click in my brain. But, the whole album. Just DIGGIN it.

A friend of mine in all seriousness said of RAM and I quote "It sounds alright but where are the drops"
I was out last night and went to the jukebox to put something listenable on. Their top played 5 albums included R.A.M. and Thriller and side by side I realized the cover art is an homage to Thriller. I can't believe I didn't see it until now. Not sure if this was pointed out here, I searched "Thriller" in the thread to no avail. Sorry the back covers are different sizes, it's not a terribly easy thing to find.
I think I feel mostly upset that instead of just announcing it directly themselves they did it by having their publicist confirming it to Pitchfork after posting a clip from their shitty movie lol?
This is also what makes it kind of maddening because there’s always an endless number of details to pore over. Why did they call it “Epilogue” - does that mean there’s an unfinished chapter to the story? Do the years mean a new greatest hits compilation is coming out? etc. etc. It’s genius in its own way but it also makes it impossible to have any definitive answers on...anything

I think there’s a good chance one or both of them want to do a big time solo tour/project and this was a good way to head off a million questions about Daft Punk instead of whatever their working on.

there's also a chance they looked at the state of the music industry and decided the returns wouldn't be worth what they put in. idk, i believe they're done. just makes me sad man.

This seems like a good theory. I always kind of assumed they would just stop one day and never say anything.

The video is the epilogue to their time as a group. The years are the years the group was together. Don't think there is any hidden meaning.

my first real exposure to Daft Punk was me and my best friend Jake watching this video in the computer room on repeat back when we were like 9. still goes so hard.

I was 11 and at a roller skating rink and heard them for the first time.

Daft Punk was already basically broken up in my mind but it’s weird to randomly do it officially.
This is part of my thinking that a big solo project is coming
maybe even just one of them was doing a lot of the stuff with The Weeknd and wants to keep producing for people without having to put Daft Punk on the credit.
i know my first exposure to Daft Punk was "Da Funk" when the single was first released. i was in high school and just started flirting with electronic music, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, stuff like that. i thought it was a neat song and it made me laugh for some reason, seemed silly. But "Around the World" was what made me buy "Homework". That little build up at the beginning, and the synth washing over the speakers when the beat kicked in, with the little minimal electro theme echoing shortly thereafter, man I'd never heard anything so simple, so minimal, so brilliant. and again i thought it was funny, it put a smile on my face and made me want to move.
never saw them live and like everyone else here they have been on the top of my live wish list forever. so yeah it's bummer to no longer have that "maybe someday" thought pop up in my head every now and again, but i haven't had a real hope of seeing them live for a while.
i'd be thrilled to catch a bangalter DJ set someday though.

I was at my friend's house around the time Kanye's Stronger was topping the charts and we were of course bopping Stronger and having a grand time. Anyway, his cousin came from teh other room and was like yall need to listen to the real song. He gave me his headphones and put on Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger and I immediately said "ewww what is this techno kanye crap?" That was my first Daft Punk experience
my first introduction to daft punk was seeing the one more time video on TV, but more importantly it was also my introduction to anime and I *really* remember being fascinated by how weird the art looked.
