I think it's safe to say that EDM artists are starting to try and prove they are "real musicians" instead of computer nerds.
Uh, what?
It's not about whether I personally think they're musicians or not. I'm just saying based on the new Daft Punk, the new Pretty Lights, and the recent "retirement announcement" from FeedMe, it seems pretty obvious that these guys are looking to prove something about their artistic abilities.
I really love this album... like a lot. But if Daft Punk tried to do their typical show with these songs, I'd probably fall asleep.
triple what?
Have you listened to the album? Try telling me that The Game of Love, Within, Instant Crush, Touch, Beyond, Motherboard, or Fragments of Time would fit in to a live show without totally killing the energy level.

As opposed to the hundreds of other past and present electronic producers that are pretty apathetic about expressing their artistic abilities?

I like Pretty Lights. I don't really get why he gets lumped into the the same category as Bassnectar. I've really only listened to his early stuff. Songs like "Hot Like Sauce" and "Finally Moving" remind me of an actual DJ. I can enjoy those tracks without being chemically enhanced and I see no way anyone can claim that about Skrilly or Bassnectar.

Motherboard is one of my favorite tracks on the album. I really like Fragments of Time also.

I never said that. I'm talking about the current mindset of some of the bigger names in EDM. I wouldn't claim anything about anyone else.

You absolutely insinuated that this album, and the upcoming Pretty Lights album, are to be a tipping point for electronic producers to prove that they are more than just computer nerds(?).
Listen man, a lot of folks have said some weird, nonsensical sh*t when talking about this album, so you're not alone. It's great that people like it and are moved by it, but I just think the hyperbole needs to be given a rest at some point.

I'm sorry I offended you but I don't think it was nonsensical in any way. There's fairly long list of big names in EDM who all feel this way. We can disagree and that's fine with me, but please don't lump my opinion into the category of "nonsensical sh*t"

Kev, you must have had a tall glass of cray today. All I can think about since I've been listening to this album is how well it would translate live. It would mesh perfectly with their old stuff. I get all giddy just thinking about a festival set starting with "Give Life Back to Music".

There's absolutely a handful of songs that would fit well. Give Life Back to Music, Lose Yourself to Dance, Get Lucky, and Contact would work just fine. But I'd say over half of the album calls for a different type of show. I think it would be an amazing show but they'd need to change it up that's all. I like the rumored "hologram band" idea.
It probably means that RAM will soon be heard blaring from the SUVs of soccer moms.
I've been blasting it in my Pilot... and my kid played soccer for 4 years. now, when the moms in minivans start listening to good music, that's apocalypse time

Pretty sure that's just cool people getting old that happen to have chirruns and a minivan/SUV. I met a dude that brought his 15 year old daughter to see The Sword a couple of weeks ago. A few weeks before that I met a lady that brought her 16 year old daughter to see Peter Murphy. And I'm sure if tonight's show wasn't 18 and up, I'd see a dude bring his kid to go see The Dillinger Escape Plan. Nothing will ever top seeing a guy bring his 8 year old son to see Iron Maiden for his first concert though. I told that kid "it's only going to go downhill after this, so don't get your hopes up too high for the next concert you see."

Keep your eye out for the four horsemen, then, 'cause Mrs. G rocks a swagger wagon AND listens to excellent music.

I love the swagger wagon video! and the parent rap one. parents are cooler now then they used to be, right? at least that's what I tell my kids

I was mainly referring to moms who are devotees to Kelly & Michael. Shows like this are the only exposure my mother has to new music aside from top 40 country and whatever is on American Idol and The Voice.

and "Dancing with the Stars"? my mom loves that one! I tried to watch it once and the songs made my ears bleed.
and I wasn't offended by your post BTW. like one of the previous posts said, people who like good music get older. they still like good music though growing up, my friend's dad had a basement full of vinyl and used to jam out all the time to the Dead, CCR, the Stones, all the classics. it was pretty awesome.

Yep very similar to my parents. My Dad brought me to 2nd row center at Red Rocks Deep Purple with Steve Morse touring with them for my first show when I was between 9 and 10. After the show when Steve jumped down and personally gave me a pick. I've thanked him many times for that.
Blasting Daft Punk is good for em.

I love this album. I've read a lot of reviews of this release. I agree with those (publications and personal write-ups) that have been written in regards to praising Daft Punk's attempt to bring back "the album" in this day and age. They (Daft Punk) aren't the first to attempt this recently, but I have to say they have delivered one the best attempts to bring back the concept of an "album" in recent years. This work isn't meant to be broken down into its parts so much as it is to be enjoyed as a whole. Its a celebration of music, from beginning to end. Rarely do I enjoy the entire work of an album as a whole more than all of its components individually. This is one of those works. I have consistently pushed 'play' on Random Access Memories and have just been enveloped in its awesomeness. I love the fact that these two men and their colleagues wanted to simply bring something to the masses that was intended be organic and compliment itself throughout the entire work. Well done Daft Punk, well done.

Just because I became a mom doesn't mean I have to have awful taste in music.
Absolutely not. It was just my way of saying that the album is being noticed in the main stream. It is much more musically advanced than the dance music that is currently topping the charts. If Kelly and Michael are wearing Daft Punk masks then the mass public must be taking notice. I have no idea if the album sales have increased. It is almost like when Michael Jackson passed and his sales skyrocketed and people were reminded how good pop music could be. I'm in no way comparing this album to Jackson. Just saying that instrumentally it is far better than what currently sits atop the iTunes charts and gets played in the majority of clubs.
