I just want at least Center Ice free so I cancel my sports package on cable.
I actually need to get Center Ice this year so this would be amazing. I wish there was a way you could just pick your team and pay some sort of pro rated price.
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.
when I see NHL discussion I am SO sad all over again that Atlanta has now lost 2 NHL teams. I loved going to Thrashers games when I had the chance, and the Flames way back. We do have minor league hockey that's pretty cool but nothing competes with the big boys.
People actually watch hockey? I thought hockey was just a filler for Sportscenters top 10.
That's original.
Thank you, I try.. But seriously though I don't personally know a single person who is excited about the season starting. I'm bias though since I live in Houston and never been to hockey game or never played any type of hockey. I'd love to get into it and become at least some type of fan.

I know probably about a dozen people at least (including myself) that are pants-shitting excited for the season to start.
Don't get me wrong it looks like a fun sport, but without really knowing the rules or the players or a home team I cant really get into it. I can see how people would love it just as much as football or basketball though

Exactly, you live in f*cking Houston. Why is this a surprise to you?

The night the lockout ended I had 15 people rocking child-sized NHL jerseys, drinking Pabst and throwing hockey pucks at each other.
And those are just random clowns I found in my neighborhood.
The tired-as-f*ck "no one cares about hockey" comments are so idiotic. Few leagues have the fan base to recover from THREE lockouts in less than 20 years.
So you don't like fast-paced non-stop action, league-sanctioned fist fights, huge hits, tough guys (and anyone who thinks the NFL - my favorite professional leage - has anything on the NHL when it comes to toughness needs a CT scan) coupled with the same world-class skill and athleticism you get with every other major professional sport? That's fine, but you're missing out.
Tejas, I suggest you watch a few Dallas Stars games. Mediocre team, but you'll have a) Loui Eriksson (one of the better players in the league) and b) you'll get to see Jaromir Jagr play hockey.
Jagr reminds me of Tim Duncan. Guys that, when you're not paying attention, don't seem to move all that fast or get overly involved in games, and then BAM!! they're pulling some stunt to influence the outcome before you even realize what's happening. Jagr used to infuriate me as a Ranger, he'd seemingly glide lazily all over the ice and quick-pass pucks away constantly. And then, with the game in a frenzy and the Rangers needing a goal you'd have a 6'4" 235 pound freightrain take the puck and go coast to coast, flick a wrist that spins a goalie on his ass and his pure momentum would take him FLYING back to his own goal. You seem open to the sport, which is more than most people that just poke fun of it can say. In all honesty, check out a few games. If you hate it, you haven't lost anything except some free time and you're back where you started. If you happen to love it? You got yourself a new obsession. And hockey will become an obsession if you let it, I promise.

Henrik - You just became my favourite person on this board! I'd like you even more if you were a Leafs fan!
Just throwing this out there, my friend wants to do a fantasy hockey league but we need some more bodies. I'm opening this up to anyone, it probably won't even be for $, or maybe something like $20. PM me if you're interested, the only requirement is that you actually keep up with the league.
I went to college in Danbury, Conn. back in the day of the minor league Danbury Trashers team. The Trashers were pretty well known for fighting - a lot. Fights on the ice, fights on the benches, fights in the stands, a fight or two between the team owner (a mob boss) and referees.
Once or twice a month you'd see a game with four fights breaking out in a single game. A few more with 2-3.

I used to go to some Thrasher games as well. Might as well bought a ticket for a boxing match. They're called the Danbury Whale now.
