Consequence (I know) has Black Keys and Flaming Lips as logical based on their joint tour dates. Didn't really think about either of them for Jazz Fest, but I guess Black Keys make sense okay. I've seen enough of both for a long while.

I found something a lil while back I forgot to post on here. Clarke/Duke project is playing at the fest proper. This is not to be missed! Fuckking Stanley Clarke of Return to Forever and George Duke of the Mothers of Invention!!

I'm cool with living close to NOLA but damn, the one thing I am most jealous about is the Maple Leaf. I can never make it there because of weeknights/work. I have to come out there and see Papa Grows Funks last show!
Met a really cool chick that is a bartender there during the Anders Holiday run at Tips.

It seems like Tipitina's has been murdering the other venues in nola when it comes to shows lately. I actually prefer Howlin' Wolf and One Eyed Jacks as far as having the most fun at shows over there because it's much easier/faster to get a fucking drink and there's really not a bad spot in the house to see the stage. They oversell Tip's and it's always a complete clusterfuck in there for sold out shows.
I went to Tips FQ for the first time in a long time last Jazzfest for Mickey Hart, and I really like that venue. I imagine it can be miserable when its oversold as well, but there was just a good size crowd there that night. It was awesome, great sight lines, great sound, easy to move around.
Tips Uptown is THE classic venue, but as has already been mentioned its a hot mess for a sold out show.
Agree on Howlin' Wolf. I don't get to OEJ a whole lot for whatever reason, but like it too. The bartenders at Tip's are awful - my favorite shows there are usually midweek ones where it's not ridiculously oversold. But they've definitely been getting the good stuff.
My buddy lives a block off Oak right by Snake and Jakes. It's so funny walking near Broadway (to get a cab, I don't know why he doesn't call them) when I go out with him because it feels like a giant high school street party. I've been thinking that we have had a MUCH better six months or so with bands from out of town coming in. I'd say the best shows are going to HoB, but Tips and One Eyed Jacks are also getting some good shows. But I have never been disappointed by the random closing bands at Maison

HoB is expected to get good bands all the time though and they have been blowing it on getting so many acts that are touring. And nobody is booking metal bands in nola anymore hardly with the exception of Siberia getting some small acts and that is sad. It sucks driving to Atlanta to see good metal shows.
Didn't get here earlier to post so they're probably sold out, but Tip's released more tickets to The Rads shows coming up. I know they're goofy Hawaiin shirt guy rock music, but I always have a good time at their shows.

I got home from work and saw that post like 5 minutes after Tip's posted it and was able to score two tix for saturday night. I'll shoot you a PM with my number if you want to meet up at the show with Sgt. Blotter (caddyshaq) and I.
