I think they made a good point on facebook citing the full names of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. In the long run, nobody is going to refer to it by its full name. Also, El Cappo talks about the name in the above article, "Asheville itself is a mountain oasis. I always had an affinity for that name. We used it many years ago for a very different festival,” says Capps. That festival was AC Entertainment’s first outdoor music and camping event, and it earned great response. It was “one of the sparks that led to Bonaroo,” says Capps.", so it's not only a nod to AC's roots but the city as well.
P.S. I didn't like the name at first either, but it has started to grow on me.
I'd like to say after reading that, that even though Capps was nice about it... It was sorta a f*** you Moog - esp. throwing them under the bus that they only made money from branding and that there was clearly fighting between the two companies. And it looks like Moog Music is reaching out to another promoter, and will not be internally booking artists.... so this is all about money really - they wanted higher profit sharing.
Even though it sounds like they maybe didn't deserve it unless they dropped some more money into the hat.

I was talking to Abra last night about the difference in tone between the press releases in the two separate camps. Moog said they would still be open to being a part of Mountain Oasis and used reviews from the AC years to promote Moogfest 2013. AC seems a little more closed off and harsh in some of their responses in the media. It made us wonder how much advance notice AC got about this partnership ending.
Then, later on, I thought about their promotions for this year. AC gave away a ton of shirts from 2010 and 2011 in contests before the festival. I also seem to remember them promoting the older stuff in the store. This made me wonder if they knew something was up before the festival this year, and they were trying to unload as much merch as they could before they wouldn't be able to use the name.
P.S. yes, I know I am thinking about this too much.
Well I'm sure whenever they originally signed a contract to use the Moogfest brand back in 2010 they signed more than a one year contract, most likely three. Then it was time to re-up. And Moogfest said show me the money.
^ I knew it was around the end of October. That is one thing that has attracted me in the past, the costumes. I could see myself at MOEMS. Even if I just dressed up and hung out on the corner.

It has been at the end of October. There are some rumbling that they might change if Moog wants to keep their festival on that date, and AC may move it to earlier, so they can give the outdoor stage another shot.

They put up a question asking what legend act people would like to see in the future. As much as I like Daft Punk, people need to get back to reality.
In other news, "We are still focused on having a festival during the Halloween weekend, but we've got another idea or two up our sleeves as well. More info in 2013." - Mountain Oasis
Mountain Oasis was a festival that AC did before in Union Grove, NC. It was before AC ever did Bonnaroo. It went well the first year but year two occurred just days after September 11th and no one really showed up. A pocket of Knoxvillians went but Mountain Oasis went away after that. That is most likely the reason for the differentiation between just Mountain Oasis and Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit. Plus this name probably lends itself more towards the workshops and seminars that were always a very important part of Moogfest. It will be called Mountain Oasis for all intents and purposes, it's just a technicality as to the law-firm-like name.
They're tweeting about David Bowie's new song...I'm sure it's nothing but they really shouldn't tease me like that.
I thought the same thing. I have noticed that AC kind of mass tweets/facebooks stuff across their festivals/corporate page, so I put zero stock in such things.
Portishead is their great white whale. I wanna believe but I'll need more than that to put my eggs in that basket. The last tour they did, it stopped 2 days before Moog started, and Beak> was already playing.
I'd love to see Underworld as well, I feel like I remember the Moog fb saying they tried for them last year. My biggest "moog" get would of course be Richard D. James, but that's not even worth hoping for.
