Cool story about Nirvana reunion and a special show in Brooklyn after the Hall of Fame:
It turned out that Nirvana “reunion” at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame on Thursday night was actually just a warm-up act. Barely 90 minutes after Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear had finished performing at Barclays Center (with four different female artists in place of Kurt Cobain), they regrouped again at Saint Vitus — a tiny metal bar in deepest, darkest Greenpoint — for a full set of Nirvana classics. Only close friends and insiders of the band were invited to this super-secret show, but those lucky 250 or so who were there saw a true one-off event that will be talked about for years to come.
Kicking things off at 2 a.m., Joan Jett reprised her role from the Hall Of Fame by singing “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” as well as screaming up a storm on full-blooded versions of “Breed” and “Territorial Pissings” — two of Nirvana’s most visceral songs.
She was followed by Dinosaur Jr. singer J Mascis, who utilized his famously wild guitar-playing skills during “Penny Royal Tea” and a fantastically brutal “School.”
“Nirvana were one of those bands who should have been big and then did get big,” he remembered fondly. “Everything made sense for a second.” And on the Saint Vitus stage, everything was making sense once again.
Local girl Annie Clark (who performs and records as St. Vincent) also repeated her Hall Of Fame performance of “Lithium,” but also added faithful versions of “About A Girl” and “Heart-Shaped Box” to the proceedings. However, the real super-fan moment came courtesy of John McCauley of Rhode Island rockers Deer Tick. On occasion, Deer Tick also operate as a Nirvana tribute band called Deervana, and watching McCauley do his best Cobain impression with his heroes was almost unnerving in its accuracy.
Not only did McCauley play the Fender Jag-Stang guitar that Cobain designed, he replicated the late singer’s snarl on “Serve The Servants” in a way that was nearly identical. Even more surreal was the sight of McCauley (who wasn’t even born when Nirvana first formed in 1987) teaching Novoselic how to play the songs he helped to write. “This actually feels like a Nirvana gig,” laughed Grohl at one point. It seemed like he was only half-joking.
The last act was left to Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon, and it was a fitting finale. Before Nirvana broke through into the mainstream with 1991’s “Nevermind,” the New York noise legends acted as big brothers and sisters to Kurt & Co. Gordon again showed them the way with a vicious “Aneurysm” and an almost unhinged spin on “Negative Creep,” which ended with Smear smashing his guitar — only to be told by a roadie that they had one more song left to do.
Having endured the half-hour of speeches from The E Street Band at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony, Gordon also took a moment to air out her feelings on that particular subject: “I just wanna say, Bruce Springsteen sucks!” Chances are that Kurt — wherever he is now — was nodding and chuckling in agreement.
Congrats, Moz. The final straw. I'm done with you. I f*cking hated The Smiths, anyways. One of the most (if not THE most) overrated bands in history.
Whoa slow down there cowboy. We can definitely agree that Morrissey is a grade-A asshole. But I will strongly disagree with the notion that they're one of or the most overrated band in history. Everyone from Oasis to Radiohead to Arcade Fire to the Killers to Dinosaur Jr to Airborne Toxic Event to Blur has claimed Smiths' influence.
Maybe it's just my UK music bias in general, but that Smiths-Meat Is Murder-Queen is Dead run stands up to any 3-album run in music. Including Beatles, Dylan, Radiohead, etc.
They never did anything for me, honestly. I've actually struggled to understand why they are so beloved. THE most was reactionary, yes. I'm just over his shit.

Behemoth has been detained by Russian police. Seems to be about their visas but one never knows what could happen in Russia after the Pussy Riot incident.

Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros have parted ways with their longtime vocalist Jade Castrinos.
The exact circumstances regarding her departure are a bit unclear, though a posting on Castrinos’ Instagram page (via Jambase) suggests that she was fired shortly before the band kicked off their latest North American tour. “For seven years I sang and wrote music with Edward Sharpe,” she wrote. “They voted me off of tour a week before they left, via email. lol”
Band leader Alex Ebert apparently responded to the news in a since-deleted Facebook post. According to Jambase’s transcription, Ebert refused to go into details “out of respect for Jade,” but added, “we did not feel right doing this tour with Jade. That fact breaks my heart in ways I don’t want to describe.
Edward Sharpe have a number of tour dates scheduled between now and October. Click here to see their full schedule.
I'm not the biggest fan of this band but I definitely remember thinking the back and forth from the two singers on "Home" made it stand out to me a bit more when I heard it on a college radio station out here.

That sucks.. a friend of mine managed a band (Rosco Bandana) that toured with Edward Sharpe for a few dates.. and he said Sharpe was the absolute biggest d!ck he'd ever met. Thought he was the best there is, just had a huge ego (Kanye). Well, guess "Home" won't ever be the same again..

I thought something was weird at Shaky Knees, when Alex said something like "sorry jade can't be here" during the show. Home was still dope though, all the other members of the band just alternated verses with him. Sucks she got fired though, she had a great voice.

So I guess it's just a matter of time before this thing ends completely - saw that one coming.
Then Alex will make another attempt at solo (it will suck) and that'll be that.

The Boston Globe is reporting that nearly 40 concertgoers, many of whom were minors, were taken to local hospitals from the TD Garden last night following an Avicii concert held at the arena. Authorities said many suffered from drug and alcohol problems. There were no fatalities.
Michael Bosse, deputy superintendent for Boston EMS, told the Globe that over 50 people were treated or evaluated at the scene, with another 36 patients transported to hospitals. Police officials deemed the situation a "mass casualty event," as more than seven ambulances were called to the scene.
Many reports to the Globe suggested that at least three women were carried out by stretchers, with dozens more passing out in what was described as a "hot" and "steamy" arena during the concert.
At Avicii's Toronto show, 29 people were reportedly hospitalized with various degrees of health problems.
1. "Dude Incredible" 2. "Compliant" 3. "You Came in Me" 4. "Riding Bikes" 5. "All the Surveyors" 6. "The People's Microphone" 7. "Gary" 8. "Mayor/Surveyor" 9. "Surveyor"
The fact that he's blaming shitty record sales over it is just moronic. Sometimes shitty sales happens over producing a shitty record, not because of defamation.
I also didn't know he sued in February for a cool million. Make that 1,276,884,988.

Gotcha. Blaming record sales on it is a bit lame and it's not like this was a widely spread news story when it initially came up in December/February. I thought you just were assuming he was guilty of rape when there's been evidence that this girl has a history of doing attention-seeking and fanatic things online.
Suing for defamation doesn't bother me. If I'm famous and someone I didn't rape is accusing me of rape then I'd probably want to clear my name too. Obsessed fans can damage your reputation if you let them.
Oh no. I know some girls that personally that have interaction with him. While I think he's a PoS, I don't believe he's a rapist. It just bothers me more that he'd sue. I just kinda feel like there are other ways to clear your name than taking someone to court.
