OK OK OK so i know this has been brought up (and there's not much to do about it) but. who the fuck does that Johnny Davis kid think he is on Facebook??? He just commented on someones post who said the xx just confirmed Bonnaroo at one of their shows and a direct quote "lol we confirmed them on inforoo months ago dummy" 1st) Has this kid ever done anything to actually help or confirm a band? 2nd) Why does he feel the need to run over to FB and post things every single day?? 3rd) Is there anyway to actually block this kid from coming on here??
I know I haven't done tons to contribute to the confirmations or denials but god damn. This guys got some mouth on him!!!
I always wonder why 'Roo books such hyper-generic pop groups like Mumford, Of Monsters & Men, and the Lumineers. I mean, there's loads of bands with crowd pleasing sensibility that aren't watered down, near merit-less top 40 slop.
I can't imagine Yo La Tengo costing more to book than Mumford.
I can't imagine The Mountain Goats being more to book than Lumineers.
So it's obviously not about money. And if they want young hip bands, why don't they at least book groups with actual musical worth, like Beach House, Mac Demarco, or Frank Ocean?
I can understand having that opinion about the Lumineers and Monsters and Men although I dont have the opinion. But, Mumford and Sons is far from merit-less Top 40 slop. It is absolutely shocking to me that their second album has been that successful with the type of music that they play. That genre just usually doesnt get that popular and calling guys that play almost all string instruments and have a pure musical sound like that merit-less Top 40 slop is crazy. They are amazing musicians and it is rare a band that doesnt use electronic instruments sell that many albums anymore. They are about as far from Top 40 slop as you can get nowadays and they set records. Their success with Babel has given me faith in people again.
Turtles are, actually quite sexy, if you think about it. I’m getting an erection just thinking about turtles. No, not a stripper named turtles, that’s not funny. Actual turtles.

The Alt-J show on Thursday is going to be more crowded than the Alabama Shakes show last year. I might actually camp out at a tent for once for that one.

For the record, I went to Bonnaroo in the first place due to, in large part, Lil Wayne. My best friend and I were considering seeing him on his own tour, but we took the chance because we had never been on a big road trip, and seeing Eminem, Wiz, Khalifa, and some others made it more appealing. Turns out that it was one of the best decisions I ever made and I discovered a whole new world of music as a result. I would never have gone to Bonnaroo ever if Lil Wayne hadn't been there in 2011. So remember that just because you think someone sucks, someone else out there loves them and is dying to see them.
Also, on-topic, I was lucky enough to meet Jeff Mangum last week, but forgot to ask him about Roo. I got to ask Churchill a couple days ago as well, but they weren't sure.
Hey people... Not really music related, but like.. Papa John's lets you pick the coin flip for a free pizza.. So if you put 2 emails or more and get each option.. That's some free pizza.
You gotta funk the system and groove your way to a free pizza or two.
Now contact Esperanza Spalding and tell her to get to Roo this year!
Also.. not a huge issue if you cant, but anyway you can order the names on page 1 alphabetically ? Lol is just easier to miss acts if you're not actually lookin for their name

Or you could just copy/paste into a spreadsheet then sort.

Which show did you meet Jeff at? I went to the Gainesville show and it was great, pretty close to the same set he did at Coachella. Did he come out and hang out after the show? He certainly seems humble enough to do that but I always thought he was kind of socially reserved and aloof.

You could do it for me and I'll copy and paste it on the OP if you'd like.
Otherwise this thread will likely just stay as it is until the lineup drops in a week or two (or three).
You're right as well. I always forget there are actually people out there that go to 'Roo for Lil Wayne, Mac Miller, FTP, and Two Door Cinema Club.
*shudder*
Hey, fuck you buddy. We're not all hipster douchebags who automatically rule out any top-40 because we can't brag to our other hipster fuck friends about how "oh I totally knew about that band when they were only releasing self-pressed vinyl EPs out of their Dodge Caravan."
Some of us just want to kick back and have a good time, it doesn't mean we also don't appreciate great music as well. I listen to just as much (old) Lil Wayne as I do Tame Impala.
I am 100% positive, and I don't want to get my source in trouble, but let's just say it's confirmed. I've never had reason to lie on these boards, and this is my first time confirming anything.

Fair enough. Just know that not everyone will take your word on it without the source especially since it is someone some people would be really excited about seeing. That being said, Paper Diamond would be a really random band to make up as a confirmation, so that works in your favor.

Seriously, the music elitism on this board is the worst thing about inforoo. Musical tastes are all subjective and seeing people downvote me because I dare to say I enjoyed KoL's set in 2010 or admitted that Skrillex's set was one hell of a good time is just narrow-minded and the reason I don't post more on the boards.
You'd think the message board for one of the, if not the, most diverse festivals in the country would be understanding of everyone's varied musical tastes. Instead it's more like a big music snob circle jerk where users talk down to or make fun of people who enjoy music that are deemed too "mainstream" or shallow.
I'll go rock out to Neil Young and then party with Skrillex, and check out everything else in between...and nobody gets a judgment from me.

I happen to like Of Monsters and Men, Lumineers, and Mumford. I happen to like a lot of other bands as well. Be glad that those bands that will draw bigger crowds will draw them away from the more obscure acts that you would rather see. I don't see why people have to complain about musical tastes and act like those bands that have been more successful this year aren't musically worthy or talented enough to be at Roo. The elitist hipster shit has gotten old and I just wanna go and have a good time. Sorry it's too mainstream for you.

And relatively speaking, Of Monsters and Men, Lumineers, and Mumford are not super mainstream/pop in the conventional sense. Lets not lump them in with Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, Chris Brown, Maroon 5, Drake, and all of the top 40 stuff. They write their own music, and put on great shows. If you have a bad time at a Mumford show I truly feel sorry for you.
And just to stay consistent with my previous post, I wouldn't think Bonnaroo would be ruined if any of those Top 40 acts were booked. I would simply go to another show or eat a ham sandwich.
I enjoyed the skrillex set too, so you werent the only one.
I didn't go to Skrillex, but I am pretty sure that everyone who went came back with positive reviews including some people on here that you wouldn't expect it from.

I actually was really disappointed in Skrillex.
The rest of you guys need to get thicker skin. The vast majority of us are accepting of people with different tastes (albeit vocal about bands we don't like). Then one guy says something negative and everyone freaks. It's life it's not unique to this board in any way.
You know what's ACTUALLY getting old? People calling others "hipster" in a derogatory way because they don't like something that you do like. Maybe they think what you like is garbage. They have as much right to that opinion as you do to think something is sick, brah. And you know what? Maybe what you like is garbage. Some things are undeniably, objectively bad.

It wasn't just this one time. It's all over this board. Just look at all the threads that have been created for keeping certain types of EDM off the farm. I also never bitch about it except this one time; I mostly lurk. I think I can speak my mind once and then go back into lurking and watching people discuss my inferior musical tastes.

I agree with you 100%, but those people and that mentality aren't going away.

For the record, even though I went into it as kind of a Skrillex 'hater', I had a pretty damn good time at the Skrillex show.
Do I bump Skrillex all the time now in the car or at home? No....but I do have more respect for him than I did before that show. Though I know the crowd and atmosphere of that show being at Roo played a big part in my enjoyment of his set. And if he were there again, barring possible conflicts, I'd probably be at his set again.
Go figure. If you'd asked me before I probably wouldn't have thought that to be the case. But fun is fun.
Even though a part of me still kinda doesn't like the guy. But I'm pretty sure thats just me being stubborn.

I wasn't inferring that any of those bands are bad because they're popular. Show me where I said it, and I'll eat my hat.
The Mountain Goats (534,930) have more listeners on last.fm than The Lumineers (324,291), and Yo La Tengo has just less than both of them combined (796,794). I would NEVER think a band is bad because they're popular. I usually dislike a band because I feel that they are unoriginal and don't contribute anything to the musical world.
Goodness I'm tired of people calling me a hipster because there's not a TON of super mainstream music I enjoy. There is quite a bit. I love Kanye (3,522,894), I love Radiohead (3,990,986), and I adore Arcade Fire (1,983,707). I mean, Arcade Fire has been on SNL twice, and won a Grammy, if you don't think they're mainstream, you cray.
Let's do the math. Here are my top ten most listened to bands on last.fm, and their respective global listeners.
The Mountain Goats - 534,930 Yo La Tengo - 796,794 Bruce Springsteen - 1,664,282 Beck - 2,374,734 Animal Collective - 1,052,511 The Microphones - 339,519 Stars of the Lid - 269,547 Kid Koala - 266,819 Galaxie 500 - 223,622 Built to Spill - 674,756
That's an average of 819,751 listeners each. If you think I'm a hipster who only listens to obscure and underground music, you're insane. I like ALL music. All music that I find has MERIT. A band's popularity is no hindrance to me enjoying them. For example, I saw Fun. over the summer and had an unreasonably good time.
Sidenote: I stopped by Skrilly Bear last year, and if I hadn't been stupid tired, I would've stayed. It looked like a blast.
Also, I recognize that big acts draw meat from the shows I want to see, which I am very thankful for, and is one of the reasons I go to Bonnaroo, and not to Coachella or Pitchfork.
