Hmmm. I'm not bothered too much by either. In fact, my dad was a Herpetology major, so we would flip rocks looking for snakes all the time and keep them as pets.

I can't tell you how many times that I've taken a golden silk orb-weaver's web to the face while out in the woods at this one park close to where I live (always because I quacked up playing disc golf and am looking for a disc). Every single time I scream like a little girl. Snakes are cool.
Honestly though, I hate roaches way more than spiders. Especially those sumbiznatches that can fly and get their kicks from messing around with me by flying directly into my face or just landing on me. If they would have been an option in the poll, I would have voted for them.

Dude, I had a family of raccoons fall through my quacking ceiling in this house I lived in during college. That shiz was terrifying. I had to wrangle my two kitties (one of which I caught in mid air as he was diving to go get one of the raccoons) and throw them in a bedroom. Then I had to move a couch to block the enttrance to the hallway. Opened the front door and one of the big ones and all of the babies ran out the front door. The biggest one was in the kitchen and had climbed up the cabinets, knocking down all kinda shiz in the process. When I went in there he looked at me with a look that said "if you come any closer I will tear your face off!" I called the maintenance group that maintained the houses in this neighborhood owned by the university and they said "I got a gun?! I'll shoot that sumbiznatch!" and I was just like "yeah that's cool, you're already gonna have to fix the ceiling, you might as well ante up some bullet holes to your list, perhaps a lawsuit when a bullet hits some kid a street or two over." At this point, I knew I had to take care of the shiz myself so I managed to generate enough courage to slowly reach the window in the kitchen and opened it up. As soon as I did, that basterd jumped towards the open window and hauled ass. So it turned out he was just as frightened as I was. This was all a result of a tree limb falling on the house and creating a small hole in the back corner and they chewed the hole big enough to get in. They were in there for about a week, because we could hear them, but at the time we thought it was a rat or two. After a heavy rain, it soaked the nest they made in the corner and it all fell through. I will never forget that smell...it filled the whole house up.

I'm so scared of spiders that I refuse to look at anything on this page besides the poll. I HATE spiders. I know I would die of a heart attack if tarantula was even close to me, let alone on me. Ugh!

No vote. They both freak me the hell out. We used to find Brown Recluses around my house and on several occasions I have found snakes, including the one that was asleep in my bed.
This is actually two camel spiders that died fighting each other and are still attached at the jaws. Good times!
Spider wins, hands down. If a snake kills you, you probably deserved it. If a spider kills you, it's an excruciating and probably unprovoked attack because spiders are *ssholes.

Damn dude. I almost had a similar situation a few years back at my parents. I heard a chirping and thought there were some baby birds trapped in the ceiling. Nope. Turned out to be a mama raccoon and her kits. We were in the process of opening up the ceiling and pulling them out when I noticed the birds were growling and I was just holding a box under where they would have fallen. Scary shizzz
And for the poll I guess I'll take spiders. Like LLL I was raised around snakes since my brother bred them. And I always freak out a little when I get spiderweb in the face.

Snakes are totally fascinating, but spiders..... If there is a spider in a room in my house, I wont go in there until someone kills it. Like Custeph, I would likely have a heart attack if a large spider got on me....UGH just the thought makes my heart race. I also, cannot look at pictures of spiders I'm not scared of any other bug or critter. Oh and bats are also fascinating!
See, besides the fact that spiders control the pest population, their venom can do cool shiz! What the Quack have roaches ever done for us besides be a nuisance all the time? (Same goes for mosquitoes, gnats, and lovebugs.) People need to stop setting spiders on fire because they're scared of them and let them continue to take out these other buttholes.

When alive, neither bother me, but I'll choose spiders just because.. well.. just because.
Just don't kill a spider or anything else around me, or I will hear their poor little bodies crunching loud and clear as I run away shuddering and covering my ears.
These things are always scurrying around my office building: I'm not really scared of these either, I just hate that they can scurry across my feet at any given second. And some of them can get prett5y big...

On the same vein - not afraid of spiders, and they are actually kind of awesome .. but a gross huge spider is 10x creepier then any snake. But I also from the N.East where there aren't really any snakes but I've seen some creepy crawlers..

No a cockroach can't kill you, but a spider bite can't really kill you. I mean yeah people have died from spider bites, but it is so rare its ridiculous.
Only about a dozen species of spider have venom that is actually harmful to humans, of those only one is a tarantula, all the others are generally small spiders such as the notorious Black Widow.
You have a better chance of getting attacked by a shark, surviving, then getting killed by a falling coconut. No one has died from spider venom in the United States in the past 100 years. Only about three people die per year from spider bites and that is almost always caused by an allergic reaction.
Meanwhile with snakes.... Around 20 are killed yearly in the US. Mostly in the west with the rattlesnake. About 90,000 are killed a year worldwide just by snake bites (that doesn't include constrictors like pythons). 10,000 deaths occur a year just in India, mostly from the king cobra.
I definitely won't argue that spiders like the ones in the OP are way creepier than any snake out there. I would definitely cry like a little girl if I woke up with one of those on my chest like Peter Brady. but I think snakes are just way more life threatening and terrifying to me.
I'm not scared of any other bug or critter. Oh and bats are also fascinating!
