I know you're being a smartass but...
Mike MacIntyre is the head coach of San Jose State. He is in his third season which have been 1-12, 5-7 and 10-2 with one of this year's loss being a 3pt loss to Stanford. He's a defensive minded coach with a ton of ties to the Southeast and Tennessee, he graduated high school in Brentwood, his dad was the coach of Vanderbilt, he coached at UT-Martin.
Butch Jones is the head coach of Cincinnati. He is in his third season as well having taken over after Brian Kelly left for Notre Dame going 4-8, 10-3 and 9-3.
Neither of them are superstars but are seen as more the "diamonds in the rough" candidates.
Edit: MacIntyre credits Cutcliffe as being one of his main mentors.
Ok since we are on to a different level of coach notoriety, does anybody know anything about Butch Jones at Cincinatti or Mike MacIntyre at San Jose State?
P.S. I am sure Bacon loved Cal hiring his BFF, Sonny Dykes.
They both seemed to have done good jobs at turning teams around, but both also seem to be unknowns when it comes to recruiting. Certainly no sure things left on the board, imo.

The main idea I have arrived upon with my co-workers is that you can make a case for or against any hire depending on which way you want to swing it.
Cincy has been ranked 3, 5 and 3 the last three years in Big East recruiting.
SJ St has been 3, 4 and 3 in the WAC the last three years.
Not bad but nothing outstanding.
Edit: govols247.com just posted an article putting Jones as the current frontrunner for the job.
One of my facebook friends, a longtime friend who moved to SC from TN in high school posted this tonight. Not trying to be mean but it did make me laugh. Going through what you're going through as UT fans has to be difficult. And let it be known that this guy always rags Clemson big time.
Hey fair-weather Clemson fans...if you're still pissed at Dabo for losing to South Carolina, we Tennessee fans would be happy to have him at Knoxville.
I will chalk that up to you still being butthurt because Georgia is not in a BCS bowl since they choked against Bama.
(How you like that one, b*tch?)
Favorite complaint about Jones so far: "OMG! WE HIRED A GUY DOOLEY BEAT1?!?@!@#?#?" I love it because 1) it assumes that UT is operating on the same talent level as Cincy and that the only difference was Dooley outcoaching him which would seemingly destroy the other criticism that we hired someone from a terrible school and 2) it ignores that Cincy went on to end up 10-3, in the top 25 and a Big East title while UT went on to... well, let's not talk about that
it's not a bad hire. but it was like their 6th choice (again). tenn is dead.
4th choice, sir. 4th.
1) Gruden - pipe dream 2) Gunday - see Texas A&M last year 3) Strong - Louisville is supposedly paying him $4mil per now. Nobody in Knoxville would have been okay with them paying more than that. 4) Jones

fedora, tommy Bowden(probably doesn't want to coach anymore)

I never once heard about Hart actually talking to Tommy Bowden.
From the way the news went, we were interested in Fedora until Hart actually talked to him. After that, not so much.

Well, he may not be considered a stud coach, but he's our guy now. He's got his first big test already in front of him, trying to keep at least one or two of the big 3 to stick around for another year.
Fedora turned it down just like the other guys. Bowden must have at least been contacted to see if he would be interested.
I love how I responded, and you completely ignored what I said about both of them.
you said you didn't think they were really considered for the job. but they were. the Bowden thing was reported. I doubt it was totally made up. so I was right in saying they got their 6th choice.
