Budweiser Real Men of Genius man, about a giant taco salad: "A culinary creation that baffles the human mind... a twelve thousand calorie salad... Is it healthy? Of course it is. It's a salad isn't it?"
That's MY kind of healthy. ;D
Mine as well!
In college, I worked at a restaurant called "The Soup Kitchen". (No, it wasn't a homeless shelt soup kitchen) We made mostly soups and sandwiches, so I learned the art of making a good soup. And eating soup everyday for a year was awesome, too.
We have a soup kitchen restaurant here and they do have amazing soups. Their chili with mexican cornbread, yum. BUT I don't ever crave soups like I do salads. Salads have all the right colors and textures. You can have a sweet walnut, berry, poppyseed salad or tangy, creamy caesar salad. Taco salad with beans and tortilla slices. Asian salads or salad bar where you put anything and everything on it and oh my the different dressings!
Do you mean salad vs soup as in what's the better food in general or what do we prefer as an appetizer?
Ok... so it seems to be in general? But salad wins either way. I was just trying to figure out what else to say about the matter.
I eat a decent amount of soup. My mother and I both make homemade soups and we freeze portions. So I eat a homemade soup 2-3 times/week and I enjoy it. I rarely order soup out or buy a can, however. I usually only like broth based soups- you'll raaaarely see me order a chowder, for example. Guilty pleasure of mine:
On a normal week, I eat 4-7 (full-size) salads. I eat a spinach salad almost every day for lunch during the week. I LOVE my salads, but I am super picky with them. They have to be BIG and veggie filled. A dinky side or starter salad... PSHHHH they barely constitute as a salad.
This is hard. Soup when it's thick and cheesy and amazing is .....well, amazing. i.e. French Onion - LITerally not worth a damn without a giant (and I mean GIANT) dollop of cheese in it.
However, Salad is SO versatile. and you can put so much crap in a salad. You can go the fruit route with strawberries and cranberries and mandarin oranges, or the mexican route with an ass of avocado and cheddar, or the freshiefresh route with cucumbers, carrots and tomatoes... and ranch. ..... And as the Budweiser Real Men of Genius man in my favorite commercial "Giant Taco Salad Inventor" says: "ground beef, cheddar cheese, refried beans, guacamole, sour cream... and if there's any room left, a few shreds of lettuce (I dont see no lettuce)." i.e. Lettuce is optional. And therefore, the crappiest part of a traditional salad is optional. And therefore, a salad is nothing more than a bowl of all the crap you want to eat in one location. And therefore, salads win.
I was on the fence until this. The brilliance of the logic makes me Team salad
"The problem with GnR is that they suck. The songs suck. Even when they were in their prime they sucked. Remnants of an era of misogynistic sunset strip garbage. Bros who dressed like girls but still acted like high school jocks.
^ Yeah, I'd rather not choose, either. I'm a sucker for a nice French onion soup or lobster bisque/clam chowdah; however, the versatility of salad makes it the blue jeans of food. You can't go wrong with it as a base; add anything to it (to dress it up or down) & it's complete.
Silver lining to this debate? Bacon makes 'em both better. ;D
