^I see the name Cronenberg and I'm interested... and then I look up and see the name Pattinson and I'm somewhat turned away. Update us on how it is.
It was a decent enough watch. Not on par with some of Cronenberg's latest work like History Of Violence or Eastern Promises. I had no prior bias regarding Pattison going in since I had never seen a movie with him in it. He gives a good performance, his character is very Gordon Gekko like. The film is mainly dialouge based and it can occasionally get philisophical. I wouldn't watch it again, but wouldn't tell anyone to stay clear of it.
Next up is one I've heard lots of good things about.
^I was, no lie, going to try to watch that later today... it's one of my favorite movies of the 90s, and easily one of my favorite animes (not huge into them, to begin with). You really need to see Paprika, that might be my favorite Satoshi Kon (aside from the Paranoia Agent mini-series).
That is lame, about Paranoia Agent... it might be worth torrenting, or I think I remember seeing the eps (in not great quality) on Youtube. I remember that Best Buy used to sell the DVDs, two episodes to a disk, $20 a pop... I also remember thinking that was absurd, and now I believe they're well out of print and not so easy to find.
"Persona" is my personal favorite... "Seventh Seal" of course is awesome (don't stone me but I haven't seen ^this one yet) his "The Virgin Spring" is damn near perfect, and "Cries and Whispers" as well as "Scenes From A Marriage" round out my favorite Bergman flicks. Easily one of the greatest film makers of all time, no argument.
I watched "Perfect Blue" again, the other day... this time with the dubbed English. It was still great, but I feel I got more out of the subtitled version in the past... still an amazing movie, but I forgot how cheesetastic the very end was. Not enough to tarnish such a piece of work, but still made me chuckle. I want to go back and watch "Black Swan" again and see just how much is borrowed from "Perfect Blue".... I always thought "Black Swan" was "Suspiria" meets "Perfect Blue" or "Repulsion".

Al: Why ain’t you up and running again? Merrick: I’m in despair. The physical damage is repairable, but the psychic wound may be permanent. Al: You ever been beaten, Merrick? Merrick: Once, when I thought I had the smallpox, Doc Cochran slapped me in the face – (Al slaps him.) Merrick: Ah! Stop it, Al. Al: Are you dead? Merrick: Well, (touches cheek) I’m in pain, but no, I’m obviously not dead. Al: And obviously you didn’t quacking die when the Doc slapped you. Merrick: No. Al: So including last night, that’s three quacking damage incidents that didn’t kill you. Pain or damage don’t end the world, or despair, or Quackin’ beatings. The world ends when you’re dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man — and give some back.
