"The Same EDM Acts That Play At Every Festival: EDM 2013?"
...because that's really all that this thread has delineated itself to do: there's plenty of room for discussion of "fun" EDM in the other thread, just with a general disclaimer to hey, maybe not focus all our energy on discussing the same 4-5 "big" EDM acts that play all over (Mau5, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Avicii, Skrillex).
to be fair, the other thread specifically excludes discussion of the big name acts by its very title. I don't want to discuss said acts over there because it would disrespect the spirit of the thread, no?
so we have this thread for all the big name, big dumb fun acts that we don't want polluting the other thread. no big deal, and no one needs to get their feelings hurt.
I've seen this done in other areas. a science fiction and fantasy forum I used to frequent used to forbid talk of big name fantasy authors in a certain forum, lest discussion of R. Scott Bakker and China Mieville be drowned out by hoards of GRRM, Robert Jordan, and Terry Goodkind threads. not knocking those authors (well goodkind sucks hard) just making it so other topics can be easily discussed.
To be fair, you should probably read that thread. Aside from people saying "no" to certain acts, nobody is really mocking anyone.
I do read that thread, I also read it's predecessor. If someone posted in that thread "I saw part of Skrillex's show at Bonnaroo and it was not half bad" I am sure the groupthink ridiculing would set in, Nod would get butthurt about his title, and you would sit around with a empty can of lighter fluid, a Zippo, and a who me look on your face like usual.
Hence, why the thread title specifically says "hey, no discussion of [x, y, and z] in here." If it was just an "EDM 2013" thread, then people would come in and be all "I think Bassnectar is awesome" and other people would be all "I think you should get noseAIDS and die," and it'd be ugly. It's simply "hey, not these bands in here, alright?" If someone comes in there and starts talking about PL or Mau5 or whoever, it's kind of their own fault.
It's not even like the title is inflammatory - it's not "GOOD EDM 2013" or anything - there was no value judgment made. Just an advisory to please refrain from discussing such things. And the discussion therein has been pretty civil and entertaining.
There is a difference between not focusing all your energy on something, and outright ridiculing and making fun of people who do like those artists to the point where the thread title specifically bans their mention.

Your 2013 thread has been fine so far, but I feared a continuation of the behavior in the 2012 thread, where there was alot of outright mocking and belittlement of anyone who would speak out in support of Skrillex, Deadmau5, etc.
The whole point of the other thread is that it's the underdog. The music mentioned in there is criminally under represented at Bonnaroo while the "music" in this thread is attended en masse by shirtless bros who are "there for the party."
I know this is directed at Jess, but allow me to answer. It bothers me because I LIKE this music, I think it's well produced and fun, and I think it has merit. If people disagree with me, it's fine. But when people come with this attitude of "No, you have terrible taste and you're incorrect, this music is terrible by definition" . Well Quack you. If you don't like it, fine. But don't tell me I'm wrong for liking it. And if we're not welcomed to discuss it in the underdog thread I want there to be somewhere we can discuss it

am I wrong here?
No, Goodkind is the worst.
correct, goodkind is the worst fantasy author I have read.

In the 2012 thread, such mocking and belittlement only occurred when people ignored the stated purpose of the thread and insisted on injecting Skrillex, etc. into the conversation. You really can't blame people for that - the warning was clear, and when it was ignored, sh*t got real.

So in other words you hate that there are two threads and everyone should just go back to using the other one? What if someone wants to talk about Skrillex or Mau5 etc?
EDIT Or we could just start using the thread that does not exclude bands from being discussed.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
Holy crap, Bill Nye needs to host a science tent at roo. How freaking sweet would that be? Screw build your own drum tent, we need a build your own particle accelerator tent
It's beyond obvious to me that when Laggy put "fun EDM" into the title of this thread that he wasn't saying that the other thread isn't fun, but that the reason people like theses bands that are excluded from the other thread is simply because they think they're fun. I feel like everyone is nitpicking over the pointless. There are two threads for two different general types of EDM. They are both fun. Who the Quack really cares that much?
really? this kind of robotic dubstep sound I've come to associate with American dubstep, whereas when I think british dubstep I think more grimey/dancehall kind of stuff, like rusko/caspa.
regardless its great stuff, very visceral. and it sounds great on my speakers. ;D
finally got around to watching these. bump worthy, everyone should check these out. postdubstep? rockstep? what is this? its awesome thats what it is.
I like the electronic at night when it isn't so hot. One big enough name to hold down the Which one night and a tent the other would be perfect for me. I'd love to see:

September 27-29th - Atlanta, GA - TomorrowWorld
October 25-27th - Asheville, NC - Mountain Oasis
Friday LN Tents : Steve Aoki / Porter Robinson Sat LN Which: Deadmau5
i agree with saturday having someone like Deadmau5 at the Which but i think they'll have at least one more kind of "dubstep" artist in place of Steve Aoki or Porter Robinson.
Maybe something like:
