Now that the Orange Beach WSP shows aren't happening I guess it could be a possibility that they are at Hangout. Also the possibility that we get the Allman's, which would be fuckking epic on the beach. I think the ABB would be a great headliner as they have name recognition, they are legends, and they put on a huge show with awesome production.

I love jam bands. I just don't like them as headliners. Give me ABB in the SCI spot and sets by Umphrey's McGee, STS9, etc. all day. Especially late nights. But I prefer rock and roll and legends as my headliners. So hopefully we don't get WSP'ed. I actually like them, but if they played they would be headliners, and I would rather that not happen.
Dude, ABB are one of the top 5 acts out there that qualift as "rock n roll legends." ABB doesn't subheadline to anyone man, that is just crazy talk. They did rotating headliner status with WSP in '09, thats about as close to that as you'll ever see.
Anyways, Avett's look pretty likely. They are in Alpharetta on 5/17 with no more dates till NY on 5/24. I would say that makes them a Saturday mainstage subheadliner lock.
I would bank on Old Crow Medicine Show being back too, which is most welcome. If they're gonna get more bluegrass they need the Infamous Stringdusters. I would rather get Avett'd than Mumford'd 10x outta 10.
Also, I hope we get something besides Umphrey's and STS9. The same ol' shitt every year gets old. I dig UM but come on there are other bands out there. I'd rather we get Bisco instead of STS9.
Yes please on Bisco. I wouldn't mind ABB. If we can't have Phish at the Hangout, I'm crossing my fingers for a surprise show on the beach like the Jon Bon Jovi & Jimmy Buffet benefit shows a couple years ago.
LIVING COLOR March 27 – Fillmore – San Francisco, CA March 29 – Belly Up Tavern – Solana Beach, CA March 30 – El Rey Theatre – Los Angeles, CA April 4 – Keswick Theatre – Glenside, PA April 5 – Paradise Rock Club – Boston, MA April 6 – Irving Plaza – New York, NY April 11 – Park West – Chicago, IL April 12 – The Magic Bag – Ferndale, MI April 13 – The Opera House – Toronto, ON
More dates are to be announced. I think Hangout/Roo/Scamp could all get this tour. Corey Glover is a member of Galactic and there is no NOLA date given.

We must define "rock and roll legend" differently. (We must also spell "qualify" differently, but that's neither here nor there.) I mean, unless you really love the state fair version of the Beach Boys that was out before they got everybody back together this summer, and see no difference in The Dead and the Grateful Dead. These Allman Bros are not top 5 legends. That's why they headline Wanne and not bigger festivals. These ABB are still good but it's hard to apply top 5 legend status to a band that's made up of half the original guys.
Here's a fun game for you if you're interested. If they are at Hangout and they headline I will buy your ticket. If they are there and don't you have to slap yourself in the face as hard as you can and let me make a gif out of it.
Gregg Allman is a legend. He, Butch, and Jaimoe were inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame in 1995. What are your qualifiers for legend status? lol I'm sorry but ABB would be perfect for closing the festival out.
I'm not agreeing to your stupid bet because I already got my ticket for $50, and secondly, I never said "ABB ARE PLAYING!!!111!!! KANGFIRM'D!!!" I said "they are a possiblity" and that "it would be awesome."
They are a possibility, as is everything right now, since we don't really know shitt at this point.
Take the bet if you think they would headline IF they were added. It's a conditional bet. It they're not added then nobody wins/loses and the bet is void. They headlined Jazzfest in 2010, right? Don't see why they wouldn't headline hangout if added.

Damn Silk, you beat me to it! ....and I consider SCI with 2.5hrs at sunset last year the 4th headliner, but either way, ABB would close it...and yes matt, it's not the original, but interplay between Haynes and Trucks can't be topped for god sakes....and Further is by far the best post GD incarnation...and they put on intense, fresh shows.
it's amazing to me that on this thread and 'roo wishlist, all the jam haters. 'roo was built on panic and jam period. 75k of us showed up to the unknown because it was a jam fest and an alternative to coachella, lolla and jazz....they could re-sched the original lineup and sell out in a minute. Now we have people who want f'ing Jay Z and Kanye, and hope Panic doesn't show. I'm not saying they should have stayed 100% jam, (J5 was one of my fav's year one), but it's totally different, in a bad way imo.
Year 1 2002 Bonnaroo Artist Lineup: Widespread Panic * Trey Anastasio * Ben Harper * The String Cheese Incident * Phil Lesh and Friends (w/Bob Weir) * Bela Fleck & Edgar Meyer * Galactic with Trombone Shorty and Corey Henry * Gov't Mule * Jack Johnson * Norah Jones * Jurassic 5 * Karl Denson's Tiny Universe * Les Claypool * moe. * Ween * Keller Williams (WMD's) * Acoustic Syndicate * The Big Wu * Blind Boys of Alabama * Blackalicious * John Butler Trio * Campbell Brothers * Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains * Cut Chemist * The Del McCoury band * Dirty Dozen Brass Band * The Disco Biscuits * Gabe Dixon Band * Donna The Buffalo * Dottie Peoples * Drums & Tuba * Gran Torino * Col. Bruce Hampton & The Code Talkers * Corey Harris * Lil' Rascals Brass Band * Llama * DJ Logic * Mofro * North Mississippi Allstars * Old Crow Medicine Show * Particle * RANA * Soulive * Amon Tobin * Umphrey's McGee * Jim White * Vinroc * Z-Trip * Mark Eddie * Mike Birbiglia * Vic Henley
"Selling out 70,000 tickets in advance to an untried mega-festival in the Tennessee hills with roots in the jam scene would have been accomplishment enough, but the inaugural Bonnaroo had ripples far beyond great sales. In no small way, Bonnaroo put this subculture on the larger cultural map, joining Coachella and Lollapalooza as one of few festivals covered by MTV and other mainstream outlets. However, from the start Bonnaroo has embraced tradition and heritage artists AND cutting edge talent in a way no other super-sized fest had, putting the likes of Blind Boys of Alabama and the Del McCoury Band right next to Ween and Les Claypool. In going big from the get-go, Bonnaroo established itself overnight as a destination for music lovers worldwide. Using the abundant energy and vast subterranean network of live music loving jam fans, the organizers launched something part intrinsically "jam" that was also something much, much larger in scope and vision. While subsequent years have found the likes of Tool, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers headlining, for some 'Roo vets there's perhaps no more enduring, moving set than Widespread Panic performing one of their final shows with Michael Houser this first year, a pulsating, powerhouse display that included "Testify" with Dottie Peoples, where Dave Schools says he looked out over the crowd and they were "levitating." In an age where small ideas and limited expectations prevail Bonnaroo actively reaches for grandeur and all those involved are encouraged to stretch beyond their normal limitations and ways of seeing. F- on reading comprehension.
I've been to every Bonnaroo other than the 2nd one, so it would be silly for me to hate on jam bands. Especially since I like them. All I did was disagree that ABB are a top 5 legendary act. That doesnt mean I don't like them or think they aren't good. Sine you agree with him, who would you two say rounds out the top 5? This will be a fun list.
....F back at you....didn't say they were top 5, just said they would headline/close.
....let me think....macca, stones, who obviously.....bruce, paul simon, billy joel.......U2 outdraws all of them and has been around 30+ years now......i think abb would fit into the clapton, n young level.........these are not my personal tastes, i'm just trying to think of people who can fill arenas....does anyone do stadiums other than U2 right now?
....i think abb is def top ten "legendary", though they can't mount a massive tour....but, if they hadn't toured for 10 or 20yrs, they prob would.
....forgot to mention H.O.R.D.E. who also got it right back in the day....
The following artists participated in the H.O.R.D.E. festival:
311 Agents of Good Roots Alana Davis Allgood The Allman Brothers Band Aquarium Rescue Unit Barenaked Ladies Beck Bela Fleck and the Flecktones Ben Folds Five Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals Big Head Todd & The Monsters The Black Crowes Blues Traveler Cake Like Chrysalids Cowboy Mouth Dan Dyer with Breedlove Dave Matthews Band David Garza Dear Liza Dionne Farris Emmet Swimming Fastball Fathead The Freddy Jones Band G. Love & Special Sauce God Street Wine Gov't Mule Joan Osborne King Crimson Kula Shaker Leftover Salmon Lenny Kravitz

Solidrock, if your point wasn't to agree with him and disagree with me why would you start telling me how good ABB is? I didn't say ABB couldn't play, not did I say the current lineup isn't good. Do you generally read until you come to a word you have an opinion on and then give the opinion no matter what the context is like you did with this? If so we are all really excited you're here. Staying on topic is over-rated.
To everyone else who has a conversation and doesn't just talk out loud to themselves, sorry about that. We are about a month out from the lineup reveal. I'm ready to get excited.
Solidrock- You should join the PT boards, and check out the WSP board, tons of cool people, lots of meet ups. I've met like 15 people off of there, all good experiences.
I see what point you're making Matt. As solid said, top 5 legendary acts is way too ambiguous. A 60's Legendary 5 would be Dead, ABB, Neil Young, Macca, Santana.

Hey everyone, first time posting on this subforum, and I'm really hoping I heard this wrong, but...
I spoke with a gentleman recently who works high in an entertainment company, and mentioned they recently purchased multiple music festivals around the country. Two festivals he mentioned were Voodoo and Hangout. He talked at length about how EDM is a main focus of theirs, and will continue to be featured at festivals (no surprise there). But while talking about Hangout, he mentioned going after a different demographic with Kenny Chesney.
There's no way Kenny Chesney would perform at Hangout, would he? His tour dates don't make sense, as he's in Alabama a month prior, and is in Milwaukee May 18. I'm really hoping I heard him wrong, and that he just said that he was working with Kenny Chesney and his people, but not specifically for Hangout. I've never wanted to be more wrong.

Welcome friend. I believe that the Tortuga festival, being headlined by Kenny Chesney, is run by some of the same people as Hangout. You got a couple of the details mixed up, but that's the gist of it.

Kenny Chesney is playing a festival in Ft. lauderdale that Huka is doing. He must have been talking about that. Kenny Chesney WILL never play the Hangout.
By the way, what time last year was the initial announcement?

Tht sounds familiar. Oh yeah....I said the same thing an hour ago.

I can't comment on the Chesney at Hangout thing, but our company does a lot of work with City Park in NOLA and this is definitely the focus of Voodoo (as if it wasn't already obvious). The second main stage is pretty much never coming back, with the focus being making Le Plur the second main stage. Probably not news to those of you who've been going the last few years, but it was interesting hearing it straight from the horse's mouth.

Hetty, hasn't MattBama taught you anything? Macca is not legendary and can't headline. 3/4 of the band are not playing with him anymore!
^^ you're right solid! He was just a principal songwriter for the Beatles, nothing important. Bob Weir and Phil Lesh have no business playing GD songs they cowrote without JERRRRRRrrrryYYYYY maaaaannnnnnnnnnn either.
I did see Ringo all star band last summer on 7/4 and it was a great time.

I hate knowing very little about the expected lineup. I've already got my VIP tics and condo, and I'm just kind of crossing my fingers. This would be my first year, and the first year for the five other people coming with me. We're pretty much locked in at this point.

I think we all read the writing on the wall, but I appreciate hearing it straight from the horse's mouth as you said.
I know a lot of Voodoo fans dislike the trend towards EDM. I am an EDM fan, but another reason I'm glad to see an EDM focus at Voodoo is so it can continue as a going concern. There is a lot of competition out there for festivals, and Voodoo fans are generally more critical of Voodoo's choices then other festival fans are (with good reason). So if EDM acts sell tickets, I'm all for it, especially when I can see Neil, Jack White, and Metallica in the same weekend.
They need to work out the sound on the EDM stage. I know its a compromise, keeping it loud enough without too much sound bleed into the main stage area, but last year if you weren't up front, the sound was too quiet to be engaging, kind of like the Which stage. This wasn't an issue when the EDM stage was where it was in 2011.
