In the same way that they are definitely going to have a few sets of reggae type artists, you can probably expect a dusting of new orleans/funk, at most festivals and definitely with HO's location. It wont get the kids excited but preservation hall, rebirth brass band, trombone shorty, dumpstaphunk, galactic, meters? and dr. John dont seem to have scheduling conflicts. I would expect as many as two from that list, even if they have played the fest in the past.
I would love trombone shorty but isn't he doing jazz fest? not that it completely rules him out since gary clark jr. did both last year...
Definitely doesn't rule him or any of the other New Orleans-based folks out since they all do Jazz Fest every year.
Master P + special guests - Three Doors Down - Toby Keith
Ah damn, I would def daypass it for Master P! I don't know if you are spilling info or joking, which tells ya how bad that fest is.
Hahaha. No, I'm messing around. But yeah, I'd be hitting up a Master P + special guests set for sure. Unfortunately, I think it'll be much, much worse than that.
Problem dog, it's possible that mobile knows something. It's possible. And if his source is real, it's possible that HMF added a clause for not headlining another major fest this summer, which would mean he wouldn't need to know the Roo lineup.
It's possible.
And for now, do we actually have anything at all to go on? Other than ruling bands out due to scheduling, the answer is no.
Aiming for the top of the circuit and not sharing with Roo, this could mean Prince. Phish (I know it's highly unlikely). Elton John (I read your logic, but it's not solid logic).
I'm not trying to be argumentative or anything, I'm just saying "what if". It seems as though lips are tight, and that could lead to a surprise top line that's awesome and unexpected.
There is talk in the headliner thread and elsewhere from time to time about Roo setting itself apart from other fests by doing certain things. Well, Roo doesn't have to. But maybe HMF thinks they have to. Maybe they're trying to put on a unique fest with a unique lineup and swinging for the fences.
It's possible.
Fair point on the exclusivity clause thing. I was pretty drunk, and I didn't consider that. I still maintain that he wasn't being at all helpful, and if he can't be any more specific, he should just avoid posting.
As for my Elton John logic, I'd love to hear what's shaky about it. He's playing Biloxi, MS on 3/30, which is closer to Gulf Shores than NOLA. If they are concerned at all about exclusivity, I don't think they'd want a headliner playing an arena date in their neck of the woods 47 days before the festival starts. He's also playing dates in Birmingham and Montgomery that same month. He's a perennial Hangout rumor for whatever reason, but he's not happening this year. I'm willing to bet a festival ticket on it.
So to the guy that supposedly has all this insider info, I don't care if you hold out on the lineup, just give us a rough estimate of when we're going to get it. This is killing me.
I keep wanting to go to Hangout simply for the location. Looks amazing
I have decided that next year I am opting out of Roo in favour of either Sasquatch/Coachella/Hangout, simply for new scenery and so I can see a new part of the US. Gonna make a good vacy out of it.
Onion- If you're looking for scenery go to Sasquatch. The gorge may be in one of the most beautiful places in the country. It's absolutely amazig
Yesterday my buddy in BC was trying to convince me to go this year. The drive from Kelowna to WA would be amazing all on its own, plus I keep hearing how amazing the Gorge is and that pictures don't do it justice.
We've already been planning on Roo this year though, and they are too close together in date for me to take that much time off to do both. Was tempted to skip Roo this year, but I've already kinda told everyone I was going.
How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?

^^ Good, Trombone Shorty is fluffed super hard and his set is always the same and super gimmicky. Dr. John, Meters, Galactic, Anders, Rads, Rebirth are all way more entertaining

quuack that! I'd take GnR over KoL, Muse, or Mumford. At least I could have a good time, laugh my ass off, and feel 8 years old again.
Nah man. With GnR comes GnR fans. Most of the ones I have met are generally trashy, and wanting to fight for no good reason. (this does not represent the whole- just my experience). Keep the leather off the beach, IMO
At least Gov Ball is completely off the table for my fest decision making now
Seems like a waste of headliner money to me. Even though I am not a big fan of KoL, Muse or Mumford I would still take either of them over Axl & friends. I saw Velvet Revolver at Bayfest a few years back and they rocked it. That's as close as I want to get to seeing GnR aside from a true reunion. Besides, who even knows if Axl will show up on time? Do you really want to risk having him pull a Cee-lo in the headlining slot? F that.

Those trashy folks biitch about paying $45 for seeing three headliners at Bayfest. There's no way they'd pay $250 for this fest no matter who was there. Axl would not only show up on time...he'd enjoy himself way more than Anthony Kiedis did. "You know where you are? you're on the beach, baby"

GnR does suck. But it would suck in a cheesy way that would make it extremely entertaining and hilarious. I agree that there's no way they get booked though. They're about as likely as Tool! boom shakalaka

In my head, and from paying attention, this is what could potentially happen...
either: KoL / Jane's Addiction (JA, I fear, is just wishful thinking) Macca / Petty Furthur / moe. / TAB / Phil & Friends / YMSB (jamband is so much more difficult to call right now)
Where that puts Mum I don't know. If we get a BIG NAME jam band- is mum before or after them I don't know, they couldn't possibly bill them before someone like Furthur or Trey, right?
Tempted to throw Dylan back on the "legacy" potentials- but not before I see some press about a 2013 tour
If what mobile said is right and they're challenging 'Roo then Furthur/some part of the Dead would be a GIGANTIC get- since they're never setting foot on the farm after the Kanye malarky. It would be a direct shot at them since they have been such a mainstay at the farm since the beginning until Kanye pissed them off and drove them out.
I feel like I am leaving something out- and there might have been changes to these guys schedules that I am unaware of as of right now that derails this.
GnR with buckethead would be a ton of fun. I'd be there, and close.
Longinus is right. It'd be better than RHCP for the same reason Steel Panther would be.
As far as the Elton John thing, I forgot/didn't know? About the tour dates so close in proximity. I was thinking it wouldn't be a stretch for him to stop off in Alabama and make a Quick million five before hopping the puddle.

No problem. Basically back in 2008 Kanye was headlining the fest for his "in the dark" - or "glow in the dark" tour. Kanye demanded that there was "silence on the farm" for his set. Phil Lesh & Friends had a 4 hour set slot and because of Kanyes' demand of "silence" they made Phil get off the stage (about 2 hours early) and then Kanye didn't even go on stage until about 5am I believe. PJ also had to cut their set short a few songs- granted I believe they were late as well.
Anyways- Phil & Bob came out shortly after in an interview saying that they'll never play Roo again
EDIT:: Man, it has been a long time since '08. Don't take that for 100%. Phil/Bob haven't been back on the farm since- so could be true, could be folk lore

Anyone here have exquisite skills in photoshop and a lot of time on their hands today needs to make a fake lineup poster. Sling their new logo in there and use that background color: sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/69477_10151341448707743_922602728_n.jpg Maybe have an octopus attacking a yellow submarine up in there. This seems reasonable to me:
Friday - Kol w/ a strong EDM act (Bassnectar, PL, mau5) at XBox to compensate for the soft headliner
Saturday - Petty
Sunday - Furthur/Phil
The Furthur/Phil compensates for the otherwise weak headliners. Also, of the other jambands listed here I think TAB is the only big enough to headline at HMF.

I hope you're being sarcastic/ironic. Because ... Damn.
Don't care about him, but that's shizzy that happened to them.
That's not exactly a totally accurate description of what happened, and the interview I believe, never actually happened. Someone correct me of I'm wrong

I could be wrong as well- 2008 was a long time ago. Long enough for shiz to get jumbled in my head. They haven't been billed since then- and they were there every year before so...I'd say that The Dead is part of the reason why 'Roo grew so fast
EDIT:: surfbum is right- I can't find any credible sources documenting this. I always just took word of mouth on this one- considering Kanyes reputation of being an ass-goblin
