1. Tool- Playing Ozzfest in Japan in May 11th or May 12th. I don't see them making it back for Hangout. Not impossible but highly doubt it.
2 FUN.- Grammy nominated band for newbie, record and album. I know that nobody likes (on this board) them but the basic music fan loves them, which is what ultimately sells out festivals. That being said, they are in Europe until MAy 5th and back in Europe on June 7th. So when they come back over it will be for big time spots at American festivals. If at Hangout, we are looking at top 6-8 spot on their respective day.
3. Nashville- Rolling Stone mag named Nashville the best music scene in 2011 in the world! www.rollingstone.com/music/pictures/best-music-scene-2011-nashville-tennessee-20110502 Bands move here to make music. 3 of the 5 albums up for record of the year were recorded in Nashville- Mumford, JW, The Keys. Yes, it is easier to go unnoticed in Nashville b/c of most fans are tied up in country music. But Nashville respect celebs which is why bands like it here. Other current bands living in nashville or had recorded recent albums- Moon Taxi, all of Third Man Records, Parts of Grace Potters last album, Jimmy Paige, Bon Jovi, Kings of Leon, Kesha, all of country music, Taylor Swift- the #1 selling artist currently(maybe behind Adele). Sorry for the Fillibuster, just proud of where I have choosen to live for my life time.
4. If the $ is right, Macca will be at Hangout; plain and simple!

The festival I know that Fun. is playing isn't really that big, but they are headlining. It's in downtown Boston and it's a first-year fest. The National is headlining the 2nd day
Dang...Was kinda hoping EDC New York being the same weekend would lure some of these overrated button pushers like Aoki away. I am an EDM fan, but have no desire to see Aoki.

Sure, he's not the most technical guy, but you can't argue the fact that he puts on a fun, high-energy show. It's kinda like Gogol to me...the music is meh for my taste, but the show is awesome.

I'll check out any live show that gets compared to Gogol.

Cheesy electro house and pie throwing doesn't put him on a Gogol level in my book, but I am sure it can be fun. I'd just prefer a musician, not a clown.
But hey...he's just 1 act of 50+ and he's playing on Sunday. I'm sure the college crowd will be all over it. I may check him out if there's nothing better going on. I am just a lil bummed because I kinda ruled him out prematurely when EDC NY announced their dates.

Haha, that is a fair description. But who doesn't like a clown every once in a while? Let me clarify the Gogol thing though, because it's not apples to apples and I don't want to mislead. One guy can never match the energy of entourage of people from Gogol, but the point is he's a showman who finds a way to connect with the crowd and make it rowdy despite the lack of serious musical talent (Gogol has both, just not my favorite sound). With that said, I could rattle off 10-15 better EDM musicians without even trying too hard.
I'm all about a big name electronic act being there...mostly because I am not really into electronic music, so if its during a set I am into, it takes some of the bros away..thats a great find, and great news.
^^ amen. They should get a spot on whatever stage right when doors open, so when I am still crawling out of bed because I don't really care about who's playing (except Greyboy Allstars, Karl rocks)

Ah see Fun was randomly posted about on 92Zew's facebook yesterday. Something about how "if we wish hard enough maybe they'll swing by this part of the country." I don't know what time it was posted, so maybe they read this board first and then went back just to mess.
Also, regarding Fun, they have actually been around for a while and they have a sort of double fan base. They've got the new ones from those recent annoying songs, but they also have the old schoolers, the ones who have been around since the Format. I don't really care for them, but I do know the old school fans have been pretty die hard (unless they are "over" them now) so they could potentially be higher up on the bill. Not headlining but possibly higher than Cee-lo. They sell out every show when they play here (and that was before they got whatever new marketing person put them everywhere.)

I'm gonna chime in on the Aoki thing. I saw him at Ultra last year and skipped him at North Coast. His act is high energy - and the crowd ate it up at Ultra. Even though it was mid afternoon and somewhat hot, the main stage turned into a hot, sweaty, thousands-deep dance party. That said, that's kind of all it is. I watched him pretty closely, and he appeared to spend more time jumping around, riding inflatable rafts and throwing pies than really mixing. It was particularly noticeable during his remix of Pursuit of Happiness. Still, the crowd went wild and sang along. If he is at Hangout, you can bet he'll draw a crowd.

Just want to reiterate that even though I posted that stuff about Fun. playing American festivals in May, I really do hate those guys. I really really do.
