Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I like this whole Washboard idea. A place where all things dealing with the workings of inforoo can go.
I'm on vacation, so while I was off line, I could not see where are the concerned posts about the future of the board went. I think it is a good idea to keep these things between the members of the community.
I hope members will post their suggestions and ideas in here. Gives us mods one place to look.
It is not really being a oligarchy that is the problem, one my largest complaints is that you did not interact with this board for years at a time
I just looked through my last 400 posts, which took me back about a year, and about 90% of them are in the preservation hall. You're right, I've been neglectful and I took this place and my role in it for granted. My only regret however is that it took this particular event for me to become aware of my neglect. Regardless, I'm now aware and you can bet I'll be working to make up for it.
However what you have will be flat out worthless if you alienate the people who added the value to it to start with.
Agreed!
Well that was my biggest concern, thanks for addressing it.
BUT hacking????? Really, do you know what hacking is? You are pretty much calling him a criminal. Using an IP proxy to start multiple accounts isn't hacking. It might be silly and/or stupid but it's not hacking. That statement is absurd and very over the top.
Emoney's ban is not up for discussion. But I think that this is a fair definition: energy.gov/sites/prod/files/cioprod/documents/ComputerFraud-AbuseAct.pdf IP Proxies and similar make it impossible for us to enforce rules. So I'm thinking of adding a ban on using such proxies to access this site to the guidelines. In the interest of the new, more transparent, inforoo I'll post a poll asking members to weigh in before I add it.
I'll start this post by saying that I'm very proud of Adam for owning up to his mistakes and for working on not repeating them.
I agree with what everyone has said here. I especially agree with the idea of listening more to what the users of this board have to say about certain issues that come up and I'd like to throw some ideas out there. I'll preface this by saying that by no means am I an expert on management and selling, but I have a pretty decent resume.
I have been in management for several years and I've learned a lot about keeping a fine balance between being a "boss" and providing a stable and fun environment while still receiving the respect that is needed to be an effective leader. I'm not saying that leading the members of Inforoo is like being a "boss", but they are similar.
One of the most difficult challenges that most managers face is implementing change. It's natural for most people to shun change especially change that is forced upon them. It's like the response you feel as a child when your parent says "because I said so". I recently left a job that I loved because the owner of the business that I managed for almost 5 years starting giving me the "because I said so" line which I was supposed to hand down to my 50+ employees with no questions asked or answered. Over my years of managing this business I learned that there definitely are times when "because I said so" is necessary, but the less you use that line, the more respected the employees feel. Respected employees are happy employees. Happy employees means happy customers. Happy customers means happy owners.
Pretty early on in the development of the business that I managed, the owner and I practiced a strategy for implementing change. We decided to view the employees as the internal customers. And if we were to make change, we were to sell it. Selling change correctly will gain the "buy-in". If we can get the buy-in from a majority, that majority will help gain the buy-in of the most skeptical.
What's the way to get someone to buy? Sell! We took on the responsibility of selling the change we sought to make. We expected our employees to sell to customers. We expected ourselves to sell to our internal customers. Anyone who's ever been in sales knows there's a formula to it and at the core it's pretty much the same every time: establish the need and overcome objections. Overcoming objections is simply referring back to the need that has already been established (and agreed upon).
I have that natural gut-feeling of disliking change, as most do. Want to make a change? Establish the need for the change and then if I object, overcome my objections by referring back to the need for change that I have already accepted.
Selling change, having an open-door policy and strong leadership are proven successful strategies for maintaining peace, order, and harmony in many different types of organizations. (If I were the owner of a message board I would use the previous sentence as my leadership strategy statement.)
You're dead on accurate. Change is only successful when it begins with a solid value proposition (thats how you sell it) and when you have top to bottom buy-in. The only way to get buy-in is my involving everyone from the earliest stages. This is something I've known for a long time and have used in my day to day work but for some reason I've ignored it here. I'm not sure why. Maybe it was laziness, after all taking unilateral action or only bouncing things off of the other mods is easy. It takes work to ensure that everyone has input. I feel like I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but this is going to change for the better, you have my word (FWIW).
I love Inforoo and will forever be grateful toward you, Adam, for creating it. My life is full of Inforoo. I met most of my RL best friends and my soul mate through Inforoo.
One more idea: I think Adam should take the honor of being BMOTM… treated as every other BMOTM (meaning no grilling him about Inforoo-related issues). Whatd’ya say?
Thats incredible, I didnt know that. Another downside of me not being involved. When is (was?) the wedding (commitment ceremony? next date?)? I want to send you a gift!
And BMOTM?!?!?! I don't know whether I should be honored or scared!!

It wasn't my intention to bring the Emoney banning issue up for debate. Sorry if my post seemed to be trying to open old wounds. He just happened to be the person being discussed. I have no problem with people being banned if they are making multiple accounts to cause trouble. I totally get what you are saying there. My issue was only in your wording, which you have cleared up. Thanks.
Edit: I'd also like to make it clear that I don't have a clue about everything that goes on behind the scenes. Hopefully my posts don't come across as me thinking that I do. I'm just giving my feed back on what I see. Glad to see you interacting more with everyone.

When I first saw this thread, I was really, really hoping it was just a place for people to come and just b*tch about other members who pissed them off.

You might've seen him around. He's love smileys and lives at Pool Party HQ. ;D
We met two years ago at the brunch. He likes to tell the story of how I don't remember meeting him. No wedding plans... yet...

You're a butthole face.
Yeah, I said it. What now? What now, big man?

It's kind of crazy how the Bonnaroo forums have in a sense gone through the same things Bonnaroo has. You start out with a niche clientele and then it explodes into something you never saw coming. So, you must adjust to appease the masses. The problem is that you can never appease the masses though. So, please don't turn this place into a Democracy. Take the federal government for instance. As much as they say they value the opinions of all the citizens it is impossible to do so. While everyones opinion "matters" it really doesn't. Just have a good head on your shoulders and think about the future of Inforoo. Does that mean banning people that other users don't agree with? Yes. Does that mean that making policy changes that other users don't agree with? Yes. Mods, even though you do not consider yourself an elected official, when a presidential candidate says he can change the world and make our lives better he soon realizes after he has been elected that he can not do that because everyone has a different opinion. Just keep the progression of the board and its people in your mind and everything will be ok. Even though certain people will disagree with that.

Agree.
Also this made me laugh. We once had a discussion in the preservation hall (not too long ago) regarding whether this place was democracy, meritocracy, oligarchy, or non-military junta...
Here's a grievance: the sound guys at the which stage need to work on their shit. Skrillex was annoyingly loud if you wanted to see other shows like SuperJam, and then other shows at Which stage were really hard to hear.

He's around. He went to Primavera festival then right to Roo I believe. Not a lot of posting in that time but I do believe he'll be back to regular soon.
Not a grievance, buuutttt.. ITM, did you wander into the donut/breakfast tent around 5 AM on Saturday night? Look at the writing on the wall and then leave like 30 seconds later?
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Yea I think I did. I did a lot of wandering around that time. I caught some Wet Hot American Summer in the movie tent at like 4ish. Then was looking for some stuff to eat.

Did going to Primavera > Bonnaroo involve him deleting his account? Because that happened a little while ago, after he posted some cryptic sh*t in "Now Playing."
GRIEVANCE NO. 7:
- Our moderators don't pay attention to what's going on.
I literally landed in New York a few hours ago. Sorry for assuming it was due to his lack of posting lately (which was discussed before I left for Roo.

I was in there with Bunny while she had some food. I stared you down trying to figure out how I knew you and realized it the second you walked out. I figured chasing you down might have been a little creepy.
