I know. Pitiful. Years ago it was nice grass with no seats. The only nice thing about the place is that there is a 3-4 hour tube float across the street on the Apple River.
Brand new venue right next to the Amphitheatre. I've heard that capacity is about 5000.
Here is a picture of Sloan playing there last year. Very nice view of the skyline. Little worried about the volleyball courts in the back, but I'm hoping to be far, far away from there. Nothin' beats an outdoor MMJ show in the summer, should be great!
^^^That's one of my favorite places on a summer night. Since it's a public park it's BYOB and you can just chill. They also have speakers rigged overhead so you can hear everything from the back. Bring a blanket, some beers or wine and chillax.
I saw The Books there last time I was in town. Love that place.
Do The Books really play venues that big? Or we're they just the openers for an unnoteworthy headliner?
Not to hijack this thread but it was just them if memory serves right. It was one of those "free" concerts put on by the city. Justin Townes Earle played a headlining slot there as well, for a frame of reference.
So pumped! When I called him to ask if he wanted to go with me, he knew all about the show already and he was on board!
Nice to have something to look forward to after roo
I played "One Big Holiday" in my dad's car a while ago. He loved it and said he wanted to get the song from me so I just gave him all of It Still Moves and said I have all their others as well. "No it's okay, I just need the one song." I can't imagine loving a song by a band you'd previously never heard of and not wanting to hear more. Such a dad.
Me too - see you there! Got soundcheck passes too - that should be a cool experience.
I will be at Merriweather as well, although I did not get pit. May end up getting the soundcheck passes if they do not sell out.
Didn't get soundcheck since we're going with friends who aren't as hardcore of fans as we are, also doing soundcheck at Forecastle the month prior. Looking forward to seeing ya'll there!

I got a pair for Saturday at Red Rocks. Been meaning to visit my friends in Colorado for a while. Don't think I am doing both days since I might visit a couple cities to see my friends, but am considering staying for Justice on my birthday or Jack white.
Playing it by ear for now, but probably skipping a couple festivals this year for some road trips.

MMJ @ Bonnaroo last year is what made me fall in love with this band! (Had barely listened to them before that.) Last summer I went to their show in Boston Harbor where they played an amazing 3.5 hr set. Although I would love to go to the Red Rocks show, Jay Pritzker Pavilion will due almost as nicely. That will be the weekend I move into my new apartment! Wahoooooooo!
Would lawn tickets be better than actual seating though..?
