If it has holes in it and is not round, it can hardly be considered a pancake. By your definition, that would make Funnel Cake a pancake too.
Where did these rules come up? So since we are narrowly defining the opposite side, you have to pick if waffles can be round or square since apparently there can be no creativity in shape.
Funnel cakes would not be pancakes because funnel cakes are deep fried. Trust me. I live in the South. I could write a 100 page dissertation on fried food.
I think its commonly accepted that Waffles can be round or square. But pancakes are supposed to be round. See: Merriam-Webster Dictionary.
Apparently, the pancake community is also more accepting of innovation than the waffle community. If waffles had their way, we would still be living in mud huts and hunting sabretooth tigers.

Also, I checked the top 4 results for dictionaries on google. 3 make no mention of round. Merriam-Webster lists two definitions, one mentioning round, the other not.
there are sooo many more amazing pancake pics out there! if I was at work instead of on my phone waiting on the endodontist (boo) I would be repping team PANCAKE.
also, jimmy you are so wrong. pancakes are muuuch classier. see: Waffle House vs. IHOP.
I had like 1/4 of one, once. Definitely not a shining example of waffle greatness. It didn't have any crunch, which is the 90% of why I like waffles more than pancakes.
It was basically a pancake impersonating a waffle.

Please continue grasping at straws to support your argument. It's delightful to watch waffle people flail about to prove their side's "superiority".

I don't like pancakes or waffles, so I've stayed out of this.
But, I do have to say that cks' use of waffle imagery and excellent points on the merits of the waffle, have me wanting to experience the waffle more. Give it another try, ya know.
(no, not the image above. I mean like the watermelon waffle.)

Roo 2014, Wonder Waffle, on me!
That's right. Buy people off. Typical waffle behavior.

Pffffft. I didn't ask her to vote! I just want to share the wonder of Wonder Waffle with someone who is on the fence and willing to give waffles another shot.
