Why do you find it necessary to question what I can and can't discuss?
??? I didn't say you can or can't discuss anything. I'm just asking you what your angle is since the guy is already banned. What are you trying to accomplish? One possible answer is that you're trying to antagonize Sproat. But I'm curious to hear your explanation.
And I guess to be more direct - I'm curious about your explanation so that I know whether to feel bad or not when he shows up at your doorstep. (You know, since he's a "psychopath").
Jimmy...what do you mean about the second part of your post exactly? The "when" particularly worries me.

Jimmy, what's YOUR angle here? Because to a disinterested third party, it looks like you're sticking up for a lunatic that the rest of the board is happy to see banned.
Also, feel free to wish in your heart of hearts that ol' sproat shows up to finally deliver the OHS he promised me. Maybe one day you can grow up to be just like him! Better start practicing those internet detective skills now...quick, what's my mother's maiden name?
About how the fact that you need explanation to know whether to feel bad about someone potentially being physically harmed speaks volumes about your own character? Probably not necessary.
That doesn't mean there isn't a discussion to be had about what ultimately lead to the ban, or about the people who enabled the events that ultimately lead to the ban. I'm keying on the word "accountability" here.
You believe that there is a substantive discussion to be had & you're one of the more well spoken people on the board so I'm curious what is your take on this?

I'd like to know the answer to this also, and I am quite interested.
My angle is - someone whose acquaintance I enjoyed was banned from all things inforoo despite not actually harming anyone.
Jimmy.
Sproat has a lot of history from way before you were a member of this forum. Some of his threats really scared people, thus why people were a little hesitant to see him return to the forums.
Feel free to come to brunch. I haven't had much interaction with you but the supposed slapping incident kind of made me weary, You spewed some pretty offensive slurs in the chat as well but maybe that is just part of your internet persona.
I'm sure nobody would be overly upset if you came.
edit: I'd also like to note that you handled this very well.
I'm not going to hide behind the ol' Internet persona excuse although there is some merit to it. But any hurtful actions I've made, I own my end of it.
You know how many people would be in jail if mere verbal threats (especially over the internet) was actionable?
Just because something is actionable doesn't mean everyone who does it gets prosecuted. Do you think that every person who ever hit someone in the face went to jail for it? Or even got arrested for it?
I don't know the circumstances here, and I don't deal in criminal law, so I don't know what the reaches of "imminent harm" are, but making intentional threats with the ability of acting on them and placing someone in fear of imminent harm is definitely actionable.
It depends on what you consider to be "reasonable fear" that physical harm will actually occur. I really don't know the case law in NY for examples...but I'm kinda curious to look it up.
I would consider that "reasonable fear" is based on the feeling of the person being assaulted, not the feelings of the one doing the assaulting. Due to that, I think "reasonable fear" is VERY subjective.
I may have more of a reasonable fear that Juggs' threat (hypothetical) to me may result in my harm, but you may take that same threat and not feel the same way.
Correct me if I am wrong here juggs, but in a case of assault, or assault/battery, isnt all that is needed is an affidavit by the victim to a county commissioner to result in an arrest warrant?
Let's pretend for a minute that there's nothing actionable or punishable about tracking down someone's personal info and making specific threats of bodily harm. Even if he didn't break any laws, how do you excuse that behavior?
I don't see what difference that would have made. The point is that no one seems to have been talking about "mere verbal threats," but instead about threats that apparently indicated an ability and intent to carry them out. And when you get beyond mere threats, you get into behavior that is actionable or punishable or whatever you want to call it.

Read the OP, d*ckbag.
Sproat has in the past mocked people who have lost parents, threatened family members of inforoo community members, got physical and aggressive with someone on the board (and bragged about it, no less) and has a consistent streak of making many people feel uncomfortable with his comments and behavior.
Oh, and he tracked "my" address, which was actually my parents house, and when I told him it was not where I lived and he'd find a 55 year old man there instead of me, he said he would "kick my dad's old ass" and do unspeakable things to my mother.
I didn't make a big deal about this (it was in a PM) because I'm about 99% confident my nearly-60-year-old father would beat the tar out of him if he tried to force himself into their home, but that's the type of person whose acquaintance you enjoy.
I can understand why someone who has been here as long as you have wouldn't know all of that, but when the evidence is slapping you in the face it's your own fault when you choose to ignore it.
I have no problem saying any of this since I've said all of it to him directly, but Sproat is, simply put, a bad person.
I don't think you are, I don't think Phi is, I don't think I am or Juggs or any of the other prickly little jerks this community has. Sproat was. He's a coward, he's immature, he's instigative and prides himself on intimidating hippies at the happiest place on earth. Sick, your boy was a sh*thead and caused friction between people who have been posting here for a while and that sucks for a lot of them. I am not a consistent chatter, but I would drop in occasionally when I had a night with nothing going on, but I deliberately stopped that once Sproat made his grand return and bullshited the entire board, save a few folks. I knew something would eventually happen and I wanted to be as far away from the bomb blast as possible.
Every time I lobbied a public complaint I was ignored or mocked. I don't want an apology, I want you to stop defending the uberdouche who pulled some scummy move and got himself banned.
