So for the past couple of years I have kicked around the idea of quitting. Every time I start to get serious about it I just decide that I'm not ready to quit because I don't "want to". I've always heard you won't ever really be able to quit until you're ready and you have the desire to quit... but I'm starting to think that I've got that idea in my head as a good excuse not to quit. Thinking about it, all the people that have told me you can't quit until you have to the desire to quit are still smokers. I honestly believe a very small percentage of people who quit really want to quit.
I was thinking about it again over the weekend, as I often do after a night of heavy drinking and clearing a pack within a matter of hours, and decided since I'm on the verge of moving to a new city where I know no one that it would be easier to quit smoking then. My downfall has always been being around other smokers anyway. But then I realized that even when not around other smokers, just social situations in general are a big catalyst. I have always had pretty heavy social anxiety, and smoking has always helped alleviate that because I can always step out for a smoke and gather myself. Not to mention that's how I've met a lot of people, is just having a random conversation over a smoke. Well, thinking about moving, in that aspect, I imagine trying to quit will be even more difficult.
So here's my dilemma, I'm wondering if that thought process is just another excuse to continue putting it off or whether it's a valid reason to wait a bit and see how I'm feeling once I get moved (which will be two weeks, max). I'm 22 and I feel like the sooner I quit the more benefits I'll see immediately. But like abra said earlier in the thread, I love smoking, period. I have overcome other addictions and habits and this is, by far, the worst. There are just so many triggers for me... waking up, coffee, getting in the car, social situations, drinking, other smokers, stress, eating, not eating, being idle... I realize it's that way for everyone but I've never even truly attempted quitting. Anyway, this post was just a flow of thoughts I've had circling around for a while.
I truly admire and support anyone who is attempting to quit. You guys are much stronger than you know and I really hope you succeed.

Good luck to all the quitters, YOU CAN DO IT!!
I was a pack-a-day-er for almost a decade followed by maybe 5 years of occasional "drunk smoking". I think my last cigarette was around 2010ish, and it tasted so foul to me I haven't had one that I can recall since. Eventually, the cravings will cease and you WILL rewire your addicted brain.
My only advice is, willpower is often a finite commodity and if you're trying to quit, just concentrate on that. I know we're still in "new year's resolution" time and I think if you try to lose weight, diet, quit smoking, etc all at once you're setting yourself up for failure. Work out a reward system for yourself and cut yourself some slack. Maybe don't say, "I'm quitting smoking forever", say, "I'm not smoking today/this week/this month" and celebrate your successes as you accomplish them. And realize that you're embarking on a major physical, emotional, and intellectual change and allow yourself enough sleep, good food, exercise, fun, music, time locked in the closet and screaming your brains out (this works surprisingly well!), etc to compensate.
Anyone else currently having/had insomnia issues? None of the other classic withdrawal symptoms are really bothering me, but that one...
I did when I quit. Melatonin worked for me, as did blackout curtains, exercise and a white noise machine. No screen time for several hours before bed also helps, but that's not always realistic.
I "quit" back before my first Roo in 06... I was a pack a day smoker for 2 years prior, just up and quit. Every year since, however, Bonnaroo has become the one time of the year where I will buy a couple of packs of cigarettes and just not care for a weekend... I must have decent self control, because my smoking begins and ends at Bonnaroo, only cracking here and there (meaning maybe a handful of cigarettes a year outside of Roo) and having a smoke. Not what the thread's about, but just saying a weekend of enjoyment of the cancer sticks ain't too bad if you can control it.
That's great if you can use cigs and not use at will. Some of us have not been so lucky. Any reason to start again (even after years of quitting) put me right back to 2 packs a day. So, I was a very heavy smoker for over 30 years. I used patches and gum and even meds but they still didn't work. What worked for me was e-cigs and ecig mods. The trick is to get the right flavor w/ nicotine combination and the right device for you. Everyone is different. Last two years I have taken my gear to Bonnaroo. Of course, a lot of people think it's something else that I'm using and ask me if they could get a hit but most turn away after my explanation. I used solar chargers last year to keep my batteries fresh. It was easy and it's pretty cool knowing I'm not injuring my body like I was with real cigs. Anyway, I feel tons better and my doctor is pleased with my health now. I plan to take my ecig mods, e-liquid, batteries and chargers with me to Bonnarooo again this year. I'm actually pretty surprised that there are no e-cig vendors on site. It's an excellent way for folks to kick the habit of smoking if they just have not been able to quit by other means.
Ohhhhh, so this isn't a place to give your last Quack yous before leaving inforoo forever? My bad
I quit smoking 4 months ago now. I allow the occasional cig when I drink,, I still suck back a nice Cuban from time to time, and I'll likely smoke a pack of menthols at roo, but I've put it past me now. I miss smoking, but I'll never be full time ever again.
I would love it if there were other "vapers" going to Bonnaroo.... (We in the "vaping" (not smoking) community call ourself vapers) could get to know each other so we can help each other with e-liquid, batteries, etc. while we're there...or if anyone wants to try e-cigs we can be of assistance. I've been doing this a long time so I believe I have a lot to offer. It sure beats being on the stinky sticks.

I'm actually interested in getting some form of e-cig for the week. Would rather do that than get a couple packs of cigs. I'm just a casual/social smoker, so I don't need anything that would last for a long time. Any thoughts?
The nJoy Kings are disposable and actually taste fairly good. It says 2 packs equivalent on them but not so...use accordingly. I killed one in 15 minutes of use...but then again, I'm a fairly heavy vaper. I really like (for a cig-a-like), the eRoll...It's a rechargeable kit that costs about $50 if on sale (or have a coupon code) but it has a nice carrying case with it that also keeps it charged all day- you'll still need to buy liquid to go in it...it produces a good vapor and it's true to the taste that goes in it. The other option is the ever popular Blue disposable (which has been running ads on TV but personally I think it's inferior). If you are only going to use it a couple of times a day and truly are a minimal smoker, I'd probably buy the nJoy... around here (Tennessee), they sell them at Weigel's stores... You might also find them at Walmart. The eRoll is my favorite though- (but like I explained above) it's pricier. Still, this would be a good choice and you can keep it and keep re-using it after Bonnaroo....You'll need a way to charge it via USB (car plug in that has USB out on it works great- buy the one that is 1A or more) and you'll need to buy some e-liquid. Best price for the eRoll right now appears to be www.rockymountainvapor.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_56&products_id=122 Unfortunately I could not find a discount code...but this is a good company with very fast free shipping, and their liquids are suppose to be decent. Just go through and pick a liquid that suites your taste (most likely a tobacco flavor or menthol if you're like those- I like the Dunhill flavor personally). No need to buy more than 10ml of liquid if you are a lite smoker and I would go with the 18 or 24mg strength to give you your bang for your buck. The eRoll comes in white, silver or black.

I was using my boyfriends ecig and only smoking one at work each day for a month; fest season just ruined that. I've smoked 3 packs in the last two weeks; not too bad but two of them were in the last three days because I've been at Nelsonville Music Festival, and I'm not even camping! It's reminding me how awful I felt when I was smoking so much though; I honestly don't even want to smoke that much ever again because I feel so much better when I don't. It's just fun and eases anxiety and helps in socially awkward situations ect...

I am a vaper. I would consider myself to have been a "light" smoker, a carton would last 14+ days, so I was using less than a pack/day. Though I haven't been able to put down the analogs for good, vaping has helped lessen how much I smoke. I have completely quit analogs while driving, I just vape away. I use a Volcano Inferno that I got a good deal on. It's an 900/650 mah with 3.5mL tank cartomizer. Thankfully, I found my favorite juice in the first sampler pack I ordered from Juicy Vapor. It tastes just like Juicy Fruit gum, I love it and have been using it for 2 months.
Both batteries and all my vaping gear will be going to 'Roo with me.

Hey, I just found this...if anyone is interested in the eRoll (best cig-a-like in my opinion), there is actually a coupon code for Rocky Mt Vapors for 20% off...use "20rocky" at checkout (without quotation marks). That makes the kit $45.60 with free shipping- that's more like it!! Oh, and plus they throw in a 2nd cone or sleeve with their kits...I don't know why other vendors don't do this- you get 2 cigs, 2 atomizers and a pack of three refillable carts with the PCC charging case and USB cord (and AC adapter) normally ...Joyetech, the maker of these should have included the second cone/sleeve to complete everything but they don't, so this vendor just adds it in for you!
Good luck to all those trying to stay cigarette free at Bonnaroo this year, no matter what your method!
SilentEyedStorm- good to hear that!! The Valcano Inferno is very much like an Ego and works well. I have a Provari, a Vamo but am mostly a REO guy... I mix my own liquids and it's easy and so cheap. The amount I vape (about 6ml a day) only costs me about 20 cents a day.
We need more Vapors at Bonnaroo!! ... I have started a thread over on the ECF (Electronic Cigarette Form) for folks going to Bonnaroo....maybe we can hang out.. at least help each other if someone runs out of juice, is having chargning problems or needs to borrow a device, etc. Here is the info on that thread...btw, I go by TennDave there: www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/lounge/424442-who-going-bonnaroo.html

Hey! I'm a member over there too! ECF was like my Bible when I started vaping. I haven't been there for awhile because vaping was going to turn veeeery expensive on me if I didn't stop looking at all those cool mods and gadgets.....but I'm headed to the thread you linked

Nicotine is a tough addiction to kick. I was a smoker for ten or so years, quit, then two years later bought a pack after a stressful day of travel trying to get to Superball IX. Slowly I started returning to my old smoking habits, but ended up quitting using mostly swedish snus (not the camel/marlboro american crap, which doesn't have nearly enough nicotine) but also e-cigs.
I recently bought this e-cig combo and have been loving it. Just bought a bunch of juices from mt baker vapor and am letting them steep now.
Generally I prefer snus because its so easy, just pop it in and let it do its thing. Extremely discrete, much much much safer than cigarettes, and, well, delicious. But the vape is nice when I feel like I want a cigarette. And honestly, at least for me, vaping is so much more pleasurable then cigarettes. After experiencing what vapor smoke tastes like, then smoking an analog, the analog is revealed for what it really is, which is a bunch of crappy flavorless tobacco scientifically engineered to do one thing: get you addicted. doesn't even taste good to me anymore.
anyway the best nicotine is zero nicotine, but I am a huge proponent of harm reduction, and truly believe that snus and vape can save lives.
EDIT: For someone who just wants to try ecigs, I also recommend the NJOY brand disposable. Probably the only disposable that actually gives a nice nicotine kick. FIN is pretty good but NJOY is much better.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Got sick a week ago. Chest crud. Been hacking ever since. Curse at myself everytime I reach for a smoke. I tried putting them down a month ago and was miserable and HELL to be around. Plus I missed having something in my hand while driving. The stupid mental block is killing me. For kicks, I grabbed a Blu pack from the gas station to attempt an alternative, but the weight of it felt weird in my hand, and it didn't come close to providing that same "ahhh" feeling I get from a cig. I want to quit, as much for myself as for my kids. Cold turkey isn't an option for me, I discovered. Suggestions?

Come with me to Nashville Vapor off of Charlotte before the Alt-J show and get a vaporizer with me. That's my plan anyways. AND you can "smoke" inside the Ryman

Not a bad idea. I've done zero research on it though, so am worried about spending much more money than I need to getting set up lol. Have you looked into it?

I've looked into it but still don't know too much. Thats why I want to go to the store and gets hands on with it and talk to them about it, rather than just blindly ordering some kit online.
I had a conversation with someone at an airport last weekend who was using it and he was extremely happy with his and strongly recommended it.
I know they're pricey, but in the longrun they're cheaper than buying cigarettes, and not to mention you can't put a price on your health. Can't wait to start being able to breath again.

Definitely agree. Breathing without coughing would be lovely. When are you going to the shop? Chris and I may make a trip over there before the show.

Not exactly sure. Some time before the show. I usually sleep pretty late on Saturdays.
