It's coming up on two years since I quit smoking. I didn't have a horrible time quitting but I had to fight off other vices that took cigs place. All is well for me now and I stick to corn but to all those out there on the struggle, just remember you have to recommit yourself each and everyday to not smoking. There will always be those times you will be reminded of a cig and the good memories but you have to remember the bad as much as the good and reinforce those good reasons to quit. People's support helps but I honestly don't think completely avoiding cigs forever is a viable option. At some point you have to be okay with it around you, I've never seen a person that didn't want to quit cigs quit so when I would be reminded of cigs or was around them I would make a point to think about how happy I was to not be smoking and made it a game of sorts to distract and reinforce staying away. Just some food for thought guys, good luck!
I agree with all of this. Also, still after 9 years of being cigarette free, I still have cravings, even if they are rare. Or dreams where I am stressed and say fuck it and smoke. You have to remember why you quit and all the benefits of being cigarette free.
I've never been a heavy smoker but definitely have gone through times where I smoked 3 or 4 a day, and usually wouldn't go more than a week without at least having one....and drinking always encourages it (as we all know). I hadn't smoked a single cigarette in almost a month and then smoked a couple the past two nights, feeling stressed by the current state of my relationship/if there still is one/etc. I am allowing myself a few days of doing that, but after this weekend, regardless of what happens with my relationship, I'm gonna be back on the wagon. I've really enjoyed not smoking - body feels great without those cigs.

I also just started vaping. Though, this is my first time trying it. Hoping that it'll make my throat and chest stop feeling like shit and help my voice go back to normal. I've only been doing it since Thursday, but so far so good I guess. It died Friday night while I was out with friends, so drunk Monica smoked 3 cigarettes, or something like that. But I think I need juice with more nicotine in it and I'll be fine.

Use it as often as you need and you will feel better really soon. I was amazed that the morning cough was gone in days. You can do this!
I go through phases where cigs disgust me and then phases where I'll smoke 2 or 3 or 4 a day for a couple weeks in a row... I have been in the latter phase for about a month now, rationalizing it with the fact that I've been dealing with post break up shiiiit. But it has been about a month since the break up, I'm feeling a lot better and more at peace, so I think the cigarette phase should go out the window along with my internal stress that came along with those first few weeks after the break up. Had one left in a pack, just smoked it this morning, and now the plan is to not buy a pack at any point in the foreseeable future. Hopefully all goes to plan

Also on the topic vaping, I encourage anyone making the switch to take time and consider what device would be best for them. There are many different options out there, some of them will really do the trick and others will leave you wondering why you bothered investing in the first place. if you're looking for more of the feeling that you get when you inhale a cigarette, ask the person at the shop to make your juice 50 50 so that you have more pg and your fluid than typically.
I've been flip flopping between the vape and cigs for the past year. I found myself vaping way more than I usually smoked, so I would go to cigarettes, then start feeling like crap and back to the vape, then back...you get the idea.
Today is day 1. I'm 3 hours in with no nicotine. I'm going to see if I can just do this. I've cut back drastically since I've been on wellbutrin, so maybe I can kick em for good.

Good luck! I also drastically cut back the longer I've been on Wellbutrin, and now I don't even crave them at all anymore.

Cig free for a few years now, nicotine free for going on a year now
Nice. I kicked cigs back in 2012 as well, and went several months nic-free before I started vaping in 2013. Still haven't kicked the nicotine habit that - I'm not sure if I want/need to, since vaping seems pretty harmless from what I can tell. It'd be nice to not be addicted, but I do indeed enjoy vaping.

Nicotine is a tricky devil, I slowly transitioned from 18 MG Nicotine content to 0 by reducing every few weeks. I feel a difference in when I used nicotine to now being nicotine free, and I have to say its for the better. Everyone is on their own journey, and not everyone needs to cut nicotine out entirely. I'm a big guy, so my heart is already between a rock and a hard place - that is the basis for me choosing to eliminate nicotine in my life - it restricts blood flow and I'm already squeezed in that respect. No pun intended. Wait. Pun intended.

Yea, I was trying to transition to 0mg - I made it to 6mg for the past month or so but realized that I was chain-smoking ALL THE TIME. Not doing it much at work, obviously, but while at home I'd just sit at my computer and puff puff puff away. So when I re-upped on my juice this week I got 12mg bottles just so that way I'm not smoking as often. Higher nic concentrations are also harsher on my throat, which I don't like, so it discourages me from using them. I have a bit of an oral fixation as well - I just realized while typing this that I unconsciously picked up the cap to a pouch of applesauce and was chewing on it - so that's another habitual thing I'll have to unlearn.
But I also noticed a couple days ago while playing basketball for the first time in a long time that my cardiovascular function is nowhere near where I want it to be, so I might try again to cut down on the nicotine just for that. We'll see.

That was the heart of it for me, an oral fixation. I found myself ghosting vapor in my office at work, and once I'm home if I'm on forums or CS surf or with friends - I have to puff on something. Its something I'm going to have to work through or work with, but I've cornered the oral fixation as being the larger battle in my personal journey.

Yes, this. I've realized that a large part of why I enjoy smoking is because I have an intense oral fixation - I chew gum incessantly, chew ice when it is available, am a huge biter in bed etc.
So I too have switched over to vaping (got one yesterday!) and am hoping to ease off that soon as well. Then just stick to the gum (and biting) for relieving my oral fixation needs

I always tell myself/friends I am going to quit after bonnaroo. I'll probably say the same this year. Only time of the year I can say I smoke about a pack a day. Too easy being outside and drinking all day/night. With friends and ransoms asking to bum one my last one 4 packs I bring with is gone by Sunday morning. So it never fails. Just gotta grab one on the way out. After that it just continues. Then come January I figure bonnaroo is close enough that I can start saying ehh I'm gonna quit after bonnaroo. It's a vicious circle.
if you're looking for more of the feeling that you get when you inhale a cigarette, ask the person at the shop to make your juice 50 50 so that you have more pg and your fluid than typically.
Ok, so I've been vaping now for a week and a day. On Friday night I went to a show and my vape died at the bar after and I caved and had 3 cigs between it dying and bed (like, 3ish, maybe 4 hours?). Which isn't terrible, considering how much I would normally be chain smoking a that level of intoxication.
However, the bolded is what I'm struggling with. I feel like I'm CONSTANTLY hitting my vape now. I know it is partly oral fixation, but I think it is also partly because I don't feel like I'm smoking a cigarette at all. When I got all my stuff they asked how much I smoke, I really only smoked around 5 cigs a day and more when I would drink. I guess because of this they gave me a really low mg of juice, I think my nicotine only is 6 and my flavored is 3. About what should I up to so that it feels like I'm actually smoking.. because even Wednesday, when my vape was full and charged, I felt the need to take a hit off my friend's cigarette because I felt like my vape just wasn't doing it. And I also felt like the entire time I was there I was just hitting my vape.
Also, I guess I should note that I'm mostly quitting smoking because I don't like they way they make me feel. My throat hurts, my chest is tight, my voice has gotten deeper, I feel like everything smells... I really have no desire to quit smoking just to quit cigarettes.
and ゴジラ, I'm glad to hear the Wellbutrin is working out well for you.

it is so damn hard to find a sweet spot, I hear ya! congratulations on making the shift, its an uphill battle but the will always negates defeat. I think if you up your nicotine to 12 or a step up from there, you may appreciate it a bit more. Finding the sweet spot to start vaping is always difficult, since each bottle is money ... vaped?.. but if you buy a juice that doesn't quite do it for you just stash it in a dark place and it will keep until the event arrives that you'd prefer it. I've also found that most people at these shops are either really dedicated, or dont know their ass from a hole in the ground. If you kick your nicotine up to 12 or 18 you'll certainly notice the shift and it sounds like thats the part of the craving you're trying to address.
Best of luck to you! I'm no professional but I've banged my head against the wall for years trying to quit tobacco, I've had so many talks with significant others that I'd rather never have again about cig odor and the like, and I'm thankful to have it in the rear view mirror. I'm also of the philosophy that once you become a smoker you're a part of a life-long club, as its that difficult to break long term. It's a about taking steps to minimize the damage and it sounds like thats the path you're on so kudos :-)
Try some strong nic contents, dont get into the 20s as thats too strong, then tell your juice maker to give you a solid VG PG ratio, 60/40 or 50/50, so that you get the throat hit and more of a natural smoking experience.

Oh and also invest in another battery, so that you don't get caught in that situation - I'm so easily swayed to have a cig once I'm drinking if I don't have any e cig with me haha. Your shop probably carries the ego twist and with that you can up the voltage which creates a warmer vape and something similar to an authentic smoking experience.

I don't really know what this means. I'm very new to this. Lol. But I'll def go in and get something stronger. The place I bought my cape at was in SC, but he was super helpful and patient with me. Hopefully the places around here have similar employees...
Oh. And thanks to SilentEyedStorm I do have extra batteries now!!! I just need to actually charge everything. Lol.

So your nic content is basically how much nicotine you're going to be getting from each inhale. 3 and 6 are lower nic levels, nicotine, whereas you can get bottles with 15 and 18 and even into the 20s which is really high nicotine content. If you have a friend who vapes higher nicotine, ask them if you can try a bit or maybe explain your approach to the dude at the shop. I've found that if they care at those shops, they sincerely care and will do what they can to find you the right blend.
Vg and pg are vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol, the standard mix for e juice - pg is what gives you a feeling of a cig inhale which is important because if you're inhaling and not feeling anything, you're going to keep inhaling as much as possible.

My pleasure, I'll gladly provide any assistance that I can in the process. I plan on bringing a few extra batteries this summer on the off chance I meet some people who are debating the conversion, as a friendly and informative conversation can often be the difference maker.
Day two down, and while i have only had 3 or 4 cravings that i recognized i have been flipping out over petty crap. It's like my irritability meter can go from calm to bitch in 0.2 seconds. How long does this last, cuz I (and all people around me) are not too fond of all this.

Have you checked out www.reddit.com/r/stopsmoking/? This sub has definitely helped me out a lot! The cravings will go away, I promise! You can do this.
1 week down. Had no cravings yesterday and have added an extra walk into my daily routine. Gained almost a pound, but I figured it would be worse. Hubby and I are celebrating my lungs tonight with a 3 mile run lol.
