Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo in 2013!!
I saw him at Electric Zoo on Labor Day Weekend. There were some other acts I saw that I like a lot more (SBTRKT, Chromeo, Moby), but there were a lot of acts I stopped by that I felt were a lot worse than Skrillex. His set was at least fun, everyone was dancing and going nuts, so I enjoyed that. The music isn't my thing, but I'm pretty sure if you go to the show you'll have fun based on the crowd alone.

I love how nodepression the current champion at using Phil Collins, baseball, and any other off topic thing he can think of to troll threads was crying for a deal after two skrillex posts. That is almost as good as me getting reported for posting inappropriate pictures in other threads.
However nodepression here is a deal offer from me. Stop derailing threads of artists you don't like and stop harrassing people in general, and I will not start posting about the merits of Skrillex in your thread.... I bet I could keep it 50% or so Skrillex related if I put my mind to it.
let me know, this could be your chance to keep me out.

Interesting to see all of the leather-bound inforoo music snobbery this year is focused on Skrillex instead of the more generic categories of EDM that people look down on. Very efficient. People used to have to go entire pages of threads defining the types of music they hated, getting into abstract subjects like subjectivity, relativity, etc. Merciless elitist super-hate is the necessary anomaly of a really well-versed music community like Inforoo, and this year the anomaly has been personified by Skrillex. Skrillex might be Inforoo's Neo.

Guten Tag.
I'm trying to be nicer (mostly because my super dry sense of humor doesn't come across well to people who haven't met me,) I think you should probably consider doing the same.

This could also be explained by the fact that the rest of the EDM lineup is not embarrassingly bad, which is what Roo usually offers. Trust me, if it was, you'd be hearing about all those artists as well.

I think that a thread like this in a year like this shows that Inforoo needs this sort of self-affirming ivory tower disdain of the peasants to exist. For ages they wondered where FlyLo or groups like SBTRKT were, but now that they are here, they are tasked to make sure everyone knows just how much they still hate groups like Skrillex, and how small you should feel if you like them. It's all an unfortunate necessity of the system, I think.

^TBH, It's that opinion right there that is the only thing that bothers me about all this back and forth skrillex stuff.
Why? Honestly curious.
I mean, maybe there's something to it in a case or two, but for the most part the people on this forum (on both sides of the argument) are fairly informed music fans that are just passionate about their opinions. The idea that everyone is just hating to hate bothers me, because it suggests everyone that does not like skrillex is uninformed about him and is doing it for the fun of it. Those people certainly exist, but I believe almost every regular poster on here truly has a grasp of the music scene, and forms their own opinions about the music they like.
It's annoying to constantly have the comeback to "I don't like skrillex" be "Oh, you haven't taken the time to really know his stuff, you're just hating to hate."
I've seen Skrillex live, I've known about Sonny Moore for longer than I care to admit (yeah, I had a FtL album Freshman year, don't tell the cool kids ), I remember his solo electro-pop disaster, and I remember his first random remixes he started doing.
So TL;DR version, it annoys me because I, and I know others on this board, have taken to time to truly make an opinion on this guy, and it's not in anyway a "hate him to fit in situation".
And FTR, I realize this goes both ways, and like I said originally that is what bothers me about this whole thing, that ''You're just ignorant" is being thrown around (at and by both sides). Not the trolling or the jokes and gifs and w/e, that's just called the internet.
Didn't mean to derail your thread anymore than it has, sorry, but ya did ask.

This is actually an excellent point, really well said. ^ That post raises some good points, too. However, I don't think you're really addressing the key point of the post you were responding to. You guys are arguing two different points. He's saying that snobbery is a necessary evil of an informed music community like Inforoo. To some degree, I think he's pretty right about that, as much as we might not want to admit it.
You're arguing that people here aren't just hating on Skrillex just to hate. You're both right to a degree IMO.
Mostly, I think we should just be nice to each other.
People all have their opinions. If you found a band that everyone in the whole world liked, chances are they're using brain-washing techniques. It's just part of everyone having different musical tastes. Personally, I like to lose my sh*t to heavy, heavy beats like Skrillex's music, but I also fall asleep every night to the harmonies of the Civil Wars.
That's the beauty of Bonnaroo. There's something for everybody. You may not like one of the artists that will be there, but somebody else does.

No, I agree a level of "snobbery" is a necessary evil, if you consider someone being passionate about their opinion is "snobbery". So you're correct, I was not responding to that because I don't have a problem with that part of the post.
The only part of the post I had/have a problem with is the idea that that "snobbery" comes from anything but our true opinions on the music. Yes people run with it and have fun with their opinions (aka, the trolling), and that can get way overdone and over exaggerated, but most people on here are actual music fans that arrived to that "snobbery" by simply figuring out what they like and don't like.
People aren't looking for things to hate on, they just dislike what they dislike. And with a lineup as diverse as Roo, everyone is going to have stuff they love and stuff they hate. It's not like if Skrillex weren't on the lineup, we'd suddenly all turn on SBTRKT because he's the next biggest edm act.

Yeah, that's exactly right. People aren't dumb, and people that are on this board are especially not dumb about music.
i don't mind some of his early progressive house stuff. i wish he'd go back to that a little more. this set will probably be fun regardless of your opinion of the music and it will probably open up the late night tent you want to see.
they all got groping charges. skrillex is serious about justice.
How about you start discussing the music and stop discussing other posters? You just complained about negativity in another thread and here you are being negative towards a poster.

Cut him some slack, dude. It was a funny image and not that malicious.
Phi knows we're just givin' him shiz, he's got a thick skin.

I knew/know many people would/will disagree with that. I, too, used to be so cynical, until I realized how unproductive and unhelpful such a mindset was. I still have that thought occasionally when I'm frustrated, but I generally think that people try their hardest to understand things and to do what they see as the right thing, which is the ultimate (albeit probably not traditional) definition of intelligence.
