The new Varg album is so fucking great. Only thing I've been listening to the last couple days.
What's it like?
Techno. It varies a decent amount track to track but stays pretty atmospheric throughout. Probably not as hard as some of his previous work. There is a random pop track and Yung Lean shows up on another track for some reason. Holy shit this is a bad review.

Yeah the song I randomly selected to play was the Yung Lean one and I was pretty confused. Seems interesting though, I'll check it out.

If you've never listened to Varg I would start with Nordic Flora Series Pt 1: Heroine.
I'm seeing Floating Points tomorrow, and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about his opening act JFDR? I could listen I guess but I probably won't.

Please do share your review of the show after. They're coming to NYC this Thursday, and I'm still debating if I should go. I'm just hoping it sounds much better live than on albums.

If you don't enjoy Floating Point's recorded music you probably won't enjoy the live show.

That's the thing though, I enjoy the music a little bit, and sometimes live shows end up being much better.

I would casually disagree. I think that if you have a faint interest in his recorded stuff then you should definitely check out the live show. Maybe I'm biased because I like both, but the live show opens up a bit more than the recorded material IMO.
Especially when it comes to the guitar player he has, it added a whole new dimension to everything.

This is the answer I was looking for, thanks!
And as much as I'm not a "hetty visuals brah" kind of person, I really thought his visuals were solid. I saw him in a pretty small crowd so I had no problem getting rail, and the laser patterns were pretty cool to see as the longer cuts unraveled.

I'll echo what everyone else said and say that you'll enjoy it. My girlfriend who had never listened to him before went and loved it too, if you like his music you'll have a blast.
