Poor attempt at contemporary disco. Track fell extremely flat for me.
Except I'm right? Disco house is one of the biggest trends in the past year or so. Look at Final Credits by Midland being one of the biggest songs of the year, almost everything Black Madonna produces, Todd Terje's Nu-Disco stuff, Jeremy Underground and Motor City Drum Ensemble's sets. This is her arranging a disco-house track and having it played on real instruments by musicians in an homage to people like Walter Gibbons. I would call it disco-house if it wasn't all from actual instruments, but because it is; it is contemporary disco rather than disco-house. Not a bad track, just pretty meh for how much went into it.
Top 10 Albums or Sets of the past 2 years? Any input is appreciated.
a little late, but some of my faves from 2016: romare loscil youandewan klara lewis cut copy merrin karras nosaj thing huerco s. rival consoles sasha christian loffler olafur arnalds/nils frahm yussef kamaal kornel kovacs

It's more about your comment saying it was a "poor attempt," which it's not...it's really good.
But thanks for that master class in name dropping. Internet cred through the roooooof.

Well if you highlight the contemporary disco part as well I'm gonna assume it's about both. Regardless this song is pretty overrated, I like her other releases more. And wow you don't care about internet points? fucking loser.
Who are some names worth checking out on that lineup? I recognize some that have been mentioned here a couple of times but that's it.
I think it would depend on what kind of music you're into.
But I'd personally be excited to check out Hunee, Arca & Jesse Kanda, Ben UFO, Bicep, British Murder Boys, GAS, Jeff Mills & Tony Allen, Midland, Jon Hopkins, Joy Orbison, Karenn, Larry Heard, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Omar S, Robert Hood, Rodhad, Ancient Methods & Vatican Shadow, Andy Stott, Forest Swords, Matrixxman, and Red Axes

The names that I am at least semi familiar with were Fatima Yamaha, Floating Points, Factory Floor, Bicep, Midland, Rodhad, and Jon Hopkins. I don't know a lot about specific genres honestly.

I would mainly check out all of the Boiler Room's from last year's Dekmantel festival. Hunee and Antal had amazing disco sets last year and now they're going b2b. Motor City Drum Ensemble is arguably my favorite DJ and this set is a classic . Rodhad is pumping dark techno. Robert Hood is a machine, check out his Fair Weather Festival set, it's on youtube. Bicep is great, just check spotify, my favorite of theirs is probably In Yer Face - 808 State (Bicep Remix). Midland is going b2b with Job Jobse who to my knowledge is kind of like a Ben UFO type where he's mainly made a name off DJing. Midland's Dekmantel Boiler room from last year as well as Essential Mix are great and his song Final Credits is one of the best songs of the year. Palms Trax is fantastic (again check out his Dek boiler room) Equation and High Point on Low Ground are my favorites from him. I'll just stop here because I could drool over this lineup for hours haha.

"In a time when music and activism are more linked than ever, smartbar is excited to welcome back DAPHNE: A WOMEN’S MOVEMENT IN DANCE MUSIC for the third year, this March.
In one sense, Daphne is no different than any other night in smartbar. We work hard to place woman-identified and non-binary artists in positions of leadership in our club on a consistent and ever-increasing basis. Women have been central part of the architecture smartbar's residents program for almost 20 years—long before equality in dance music was a hot button topic. With the Daphne series, we hope to disprove the oft-cited “roadblocks” used to scapegoat gender disparities in dance lineups by showing that gender parity is not only possible, but it also requires no compromise in the quality or success of the club."
I think it's great that this club is doing this. I was wondering if there were any names I should particularly check out? I've heard of Nina Kraviz, and based on Spotify "Related Artists" I think I'd like her, I'll check her out. This will also be the third time I've seen The Black Madonna this year, I don't think I'll ever get enough of her. I've seen DJ Heather before and enjoyed her, I'm seeing her open for Detroit Swindle this weekend actually. I also enjoyed Eris Drew opening up for The Black Madonna recently. I'm in the dark on everyone else though.

Highly recommend K-Hand. Detroit house producer and DJ, saw her during Movement weekend and she was probably my second favorite set of the entire weekend.
