Hate to pee in anyone's corn flakes but we seemed to have eliminated half of the list Gary liked based on an assumption. When Gary liked the list it was the first peep we heard from him on the board so we assumed it was the first time the correct artist had been mentioned and eliminated any artist that been guessed prior to that point. Then again, Gary is on record as saying he will not confirm a correct answer, so he couldn't have gone and liked an earlier post that had guessed the correct band and only the correct band.
Upcoming shows: Ryan Adams 1-25-12 Red Wanting Blue 1-28-12 The Black Keys w/ The Arctic Monkeys 3-??-12

It feels like we are patting ourselves on the back for having the clue solved when, at least to me, it seems that we still have not 1 but at least 2 viable solutions. The arguments are equally strong for both Mogwai and Manson, imho. And beyond those 2 there are possible cases to be made for any other band on the list that we may have not even thought of.

If Canton-bound i referenced to the NFL Hall of Fame, it was opened in 1963. The Beatles released "I Want To Hold Your Hand/I Saw Her Standing There" and "Meet the Beatles" the same year which was the beginning on Beatlemania. Could this be leading toward Paul McCartney set at Roo? Idk how the "Good vs Evil" comes into role; someone help me out.
Gary also mentioned dropping bigger names this year too... And Manson is certainly a bigger name than Mogwai... This is not proper logic, I know - but with the way he also fits into the clue I would leave Manson open as a possibility still.

This clue has nothing to do with McCartney. Gary even said it had nothing to do with the NFL so there is zero in this clue that points to McCartney.

Hints *"No NFL. No Hall of Fame... No football at all" - GC *"We haven't set our schedule yet... so no Thursday connection at this point." - GC *"Change your direction" - GC, in response to second part being Dio-related. *The second part of the clue has something to do with Black Sabbath or any relation to a song. *The artist in question has gained some notoriety from a Black Sabbath Cover *Nothing on the first 5.5 pages is correct.
Gary said it has nothing to do with the NFL hall of fame. I still think it is Mogwai, it fits the clue the best.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

Actually, via Gary's twitter and him "liking" things on this page we were able to know we were on the right track. Also, yesterday about 5 pages through this thread Gary said he had not seen the correct answer yet so that is why half the list was eliminated.

To whomever said that Gary was dropping bigger names, I think Mogwai is a pretty big name in that circle. I don't remember who was the first clue last year, but I think Mogwai is defintely a bigger drop (if this is correct) than most of the clues from last year. I really would love to see them.

Thanks for clearing that up. I hadn't been following his twitter feed while on the board at the time of his tweet. Now I see that his tweet about not seeing the correct answer came at 6:50pm eastern last night.
I still have a tough time wrapping my head around the possibility that the clue coming out on Marilyn Manson's birthday was just a coincidence, though. Manson fits all aspects of the clue that was released on his birthday and it's not him?

Totally forgot this was gonna happen and didn't get on here yesterday. I get on this morning and find it's been solved! Mogwai definitely seems right, and is a big name. And damn if Mogwai is there, that's enough to justify my ticket already!! I love Mogwai!!!
Can someone post some Mogwai vids? heard of them but never heard any tracks
and what genre do they fall into?
Mogwai is high quality post-rock. Not as good as Sigur Ros, or Godspeed You! Black Emperor, IMO, but still excellent.
My favorite Mogwai song - I'm Jim Morrison I'm Dead
Another great Mogwai song - Take Me Somewhere Nice
You should also check out: This Will Destroy You, God Is An Astronaut, Joy Wants Eternity, and Collapse Under The Empire, as well as the 2 previously mentioned bands.
