I feel that new members might find it a bit repressive and heavy handed. Almost like, I don't know, a lawyer wrote it.
If you take out the random insults, and insinuations that the new user is probably an idiot it is really not half bad.
Do me a favor. Think about how dumb the "average" person is. Then follow that up by realizing that about 50% of the population is actually more stupid than that.

No I get that, still it is not nice to presume, and a intro like that will be ignored by the idiots, and it will tend to drive off the ones with two brain cells to rub together.
I got an almost unbiased opinion on the letter. I read it to my husband. He does not know or care about most of you on inforoo. I told him I felt it was too aggressive for new members.

Can we just admit that my ideas and opinions are better and more valuable than everyone else's and move on? And let's start getting this letter out to all newly registered members, stat! Or hell, just make it a stickied post in the main forum, and tell everyone who signs up to read it. It'll provide fair notice as to what exactly is going to take place here.
I'd personally prefer to go with the minimum posts but around here I think this may work best. It may force some people into lurking around and finding the answers to their questions before having the ability to start 10 duplicate threads.
It wont stop the trolls but I think it will help with that anyway. I mean good lord I love getting new members as much as the next guy but I can only so politely tell people about Weds night so many times.
When was it, exactly, that you "so politely" told anyone, anything? Maybe post #10,212 (back in Oct. '09)?
I'm sure you're a good enough guy in "real" life, Doc; but on this board, you typically come off sounding like the guy who taught Robert Johnson to play blues guitar.
I wish you no ill. But you'd probably suffer the newb a bit easier if you took your ownself less seriously. Just sayin'

Most of Jess's posts are really polite. Sometimes him and Juggs go back and forth (mostly about Phish and quality of certain bands) and it gets heated but for the most part Jess is really helpful and polite on these boards. He gives just as much sarcastic/jokey responses as anyone.
Not sure what you're talking about but I don't find Jess to be the way you described him on here.....but maybe I just don't read all of his mean posts.
No big thing, really. Like I mentioned, I'm sure he is a decent guy.
It's just that earlier I read an exchange between him and Garageland, in a different thread, debating the historical ownership interests of Live Nation and AC/Superfly -- and why it was, that the only "physical" tickets for Tom Waits '08 tour were for the Knoxville show (?)
Interesting enough, to the trivia buff. But if you read the post, and consider the tone, it really is "I-know-better-than-you", and pretty damn snarky.
Anyway, I read a lot of your stuff and respect your perspective in "stepping up" for him.
It's all good. I just don't think any one (or several) of us "own" the Roo experience, any more than another. It SHOULD be just as much for the newb, as it is for we Grizzled.

Remind me when did I kick your particular puppy again? I wouldn't worry too much about my exchanges with Garageland he is a nice guy and we are friends who are able to discuss things just fine without the outside help of people who only come on here to be snarky and get clues for the lineup.
Edit I dont remember you but my name comes up in 12 of your last 25 posts I guess I should be flattered to have my very own inforoo stalker.

I'm actually a big fan of Jess. I get what he says, I think, just because he and I started around the same time.
I didn't take it as snarky. I really wouldn't read too much into that exchange. It was me who started it actually by bringing up something that didn't really matter.

An argument/debate/discussion with Garageland doesn't really jive into your original complaint though, which seemed to be that he's not polite to new board members. (but maybe I misinterpreted that).
I've known Jess for a few years on here and I've always felt he's one of the more fair guys on here....even when I disagree with him. Maybe he comes across to you as being too "know it all" or "i know better than you" but that could just be how you perceive it and not what he intends.
Either way......Jess is good people on here and in life
