In no particular order my favorites would be:
Animal Collective - Centipede Hz
Dirty Projectors - Swing Lo Magellan
David Byrne & St. Vincent - Love this Giant
Burial - Kindred
And least favorites (over-hyped, biggest disappointment, etc)
Frank Ocean - Channel Orange (Never got the hype with Frank Ocean. I kept hearing how amazing this album was and when I gave it a listen it sounded like pretty generic pop R&B. He's got a good voice, but I just don't see what makes this album deserving of all the praise and hype.)
Jack White - Blunderbuss (So let down by this. I am a massive Jack White fan, but this album just really didn't live up to the expectations I had for it. Pretty big bummer.)
The xx - Coexists (They're debut was one of my top 3 favorite albums of '09. I felt this one just didn't stand out near as much. They kind of set the bar to high for themselves with their first record I think.)

Top 50: 1) Grizzly Bear, Shields 2) Baroness, Yellow & Green 3) Japandroids, Celebration Rock 4) Hot Chip, In Our Heads 5) Spiritualized, Sweet Heart, Sweet Light 6) Liars, WIXIW 7) El-P, Cancer For Cure 8) Killer Mike, R.A.P. Music 9) Flying Lotus, Until the Quiet Comes 10) Alt-J, An Awesome Wave
Alt-J arrived too late in the year for me to place it any higher. I love the f*ck out of it, but I honestly can't place it higher than the others, which I've been listening to regularly for a while. The #1 spot belonged to Baroness until just about this morning, when I realized that Shields was a better, more complete album in my opinion. Also, the El-P and Killer Mike albums are next to each other because I feel like they're a perfect compliment - if I could have them ranked at a single spot, I would.
11) Frank Ocean, Channel Orange 12) Yeasayer, Fragrant World 13) Kendrick Lamar, good kid m.A.A.d. city 14) Simian Mobile Disco, Unpatterns 15) Roc Marciano, Reloaded 16) Cloud Nothings, Attack On Memory 17) White Rabbits, Milk Famous 18) Clear Soul Forces, Detroit Revolutions 19) Four Tet, Pink 20) High on Fire, De Vermis Mysteriis
This tier is full of my "all underrated" list, including Yeasayer and Simian Mobile Disco, both albums I truly loved and don't seem to be getting much respect. I seem to recall White Rabbits being well-received, but it fell off everyone's radar. And Roc Marciano's album is a f*cking menace.
21) Cat Power, Sun 22) Ab-Soul, Control System 23) Nas, Life Is Good 24) The Men, Open Your Heart 25) Beach House, Bloom 26) Royal Headache, Royal Headache 27) Twin Shadow, Confess 28) Jack White, Blunderbuss 29) Sean Price, Mic Tyson 30) Animal Collective, Centipede HZ
I cannot believe I have a Nas album this high.
31) Ty Segall Band, Slaughterhouse 32) The Walkmen, Heaven 33) Reks, Straight No Chaser 34) Joey Bada$$, 1999 35) Converge, All We Love We Leave Behind 36) Squarepusher, Ufabulum 37) Primitive Weapons, the Shadow Gallery 38) The Sword, Apocryphon 39) The xx, Coexist 40) Wu-Block, Wu-Block
That Primitive Weapons album is brutal, and gets zero love. Joey Bada$$ is getting all the press, but nobody paid attention to Reks' album which is just a slightly different angle on what Bada$$ is doing, just a little more polished and practiced. And for the record, I couldn't decide where the f*ck I wanted to slot Converge. It could have been at least 10 spots higher, or 10 spots lower.
41) Mumford & Sons, Babel 42) Divine Fits, A Thing Called Divine Fits 43) Big K.R.I.T., Live From the Underground 44) Oh No, Ohnomite 45) Enabler, All Hail the Void 46) Tanlines, Mixed Emotions 47) How To Dress Well, Total Loss 48) The Presets, Pacifica 49) Tame Impala, Lonerism 50) G.O.O.D. Music, Cruel Summer
Mumford & Sons are better than Of Monster & Men, the Lumineers, the Avett Brothers, and pretty much every other faux-bluegrass semi-Americana band that relies heavily on banjos and shouts and handclaps. I'm sorry to have to be the one to make you face reality, but it's true. Enabler is another one nobody seems to have noticed, I think it's intense and ridiculous and brutal. Ohnomite is a stellar, posse-cut driven production heavy album. And Cruel Summer is exactly one half of a spectacular album. If the whole thing was like the first 6 tracks, it would have been in my top 5.
Honorable Mentions (Alphabetical order): Actress, R.I.P. Andy Stott, Luxury Problems Big Pink, Future This Chromatics, Kill For Love Father John Misty, Fear Fun Gary Clark Jr., Blak and Blu Jeremiah Jae, Raw Money Raps Norah Jones, Broken Little Hearts Passion Pit, Gossamer Polica, Give You The Ghost Purity Ring, Shrines Quakers, Quakers Sharon Van Etten, Tramp Sigur Ros, Valtari Traxman, Da Mind of Traxman
Really, any of these could have snuck into the bottom half of my top 50. Quakers was just a little too rambling and unfocused - it's basically a looser version of Ohnomite. I didn't like Polica until I saw them live, so I felt awkward about boosting their album higher. Same with Sharon Van Etten. Also, the Big Pink are a spectacularly dumb rock and roll band and I love them for it.
Four Things That Would Have Been Top-50 If They Weren’t Mixtapes or EPs: Big K.R.I.T., 4Eva and a Day TNGHT, TNGHT EP Antlers, Underseas EP Burial, Kindred EP
Burial would have been top-5 if I considered such things, and TNGHT would have been top-20 or 15.

You left off St. vincent David Byrne in that list.
Just heard a track off Alt-J so that will be next album to check out.
Gary Clark Jr, Fiona Apple, Vincent/Byrne, and Tame Impala were my faves so far. Still need to make some more mp3 cd's for my car. I can't stream music at work, so I need to add some more tunes to my library.
Didn't think anyone around here felt as strongly as I did about Shields. That album was a revelation to me. It's head and shoulders above their other releases.

I like this whole list - clearly put thought into it. I disagree with a good chuck of it - but that's a good thing. Now I'm not trying to be a wanker here - but I noticed the two things above. I'm only asking because I also said I wasn't including EPs or mixtapes in my list, but I totally loved 1999. Is there something different about this one that makes it not really a mixtape?
If that's the case, I have to bump some shiz around and put 1999 back into play...

Eh, I mean I wasn't going by any hard and fast criteria...but I tend to give a pass to things that are technically "mixtapes" but are put out by artists who don't actually have a true "album" out. For instance, K.R.I.T. put out an actual album this year, so that's what I'm judging him by. I know it doesn't make much sense.
Didn't think anyone around here felt as strongly as I did about Shields. That album was a revelation to me. It's head and shoulders above their other releases.
I love it too, top ten for me, but I can't say it's better than Yellow House or Veckatimest.
Which I guess reflects on how great those other two albums are.

No, no - I was looking for a loophole and there it is. Joey's back on - sorry Beach House.

Obviously it's personal preference, but what made Shields better for me was how open and unbridled it is, starting with "Sleeping Ute" and continuing throughout the album. The aesthetic that was created jumped out at me more so than their other two did. This in part had to do with the more emotionally charged (and easily discernible) themes present, but also their lack of reliance on vocal harmonies. Both Rossen and Droste were able to make songs their own on this album.
These are great lists, you guys. I can't wait to check out what I don't know.
I know mine falls under the same ol' same ol' category but I've got to just stay true to what I like the most with these lists. I feel like if I ever try to put a record where I know it 'should' be, I almost feel guilty for going against my gut. In the end my list is just the records that moved me the most this year.
Looks like I've missed a lot of stuff this year. I haven't seen anyone mention Django Django, though, that's one worth checking out. Maybe I'll try to post a list in the coming days.

My list is coming soon. And the lack of mention of Django Django will then change.

Man this was hard. A lot of shuffling and adding and removing. I'm not sure if the fact that there are 10-12 here that I haven't seen on other lists means I have crappy taste in music, but in the end it was fun to put together.
