I never would have thought it at the start of the season, but UConn is in trouble now. As an aside, I'm spending my night at Ohio State - Purdue in Columbus. Can't freaking wait.
I grew up in Lafayette; I've taken classes and worked at Purdue. Even though I go to IU now, I still have a soft spot in my heart for the place I spent my high school years getting drunk at. Purdue is actually a school I root for and I kind of want tonight to be a close game.
With that being said, I think PU loses by 30 and OSU might actually hit the century mark.
You got your wish on the close game. That was one heck of a game - and I think it, combined with the Illinois game, reveals a big hole in OSU's championship aspirations: They have a habit of giving up huge games to outside shooters. Purdue last night was killing it from 3.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! NO SLEEP FOR ME TONIGHT!!
LOL @ Zeller playing off him like he was going to start to go to the basket with 2 seconds left. That's way more egregious than the missed free throw or inadvertent tip-in.
You gotta feel for Zeller. Literally everyone has a hard-on for his brother and constantly compares the two. Cody is obviously better, but that doesn't change that fact that Zeller is a solid member of a solid Final Four contender.
Still doesn't excuse his play in the last minute of tonight.

Zeller doesn't deserve blame for the loss. If it wasn't for his stellar first half, one could say unc wouldn't have even been in the game. I feel as bad for him today as I possibly could, although that still isn't very much.
I really want IU to beat Illinois tonight. I think they can win from here on out, but I would be very satisfied with 5-2. That starts with whooping the Illini tonight.
I don't know what Zeller was thinking in that spot. UNC was up two. He needed to make Rivers drive around him. A tie and OT is a better alternative than what transpired.

Thought i would check back in here and see what 10 things need to said.
First: Clearly Kentucky is the best team in the nation. I think Davis will be Freshman of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and 1st pick in the NBA Draft. (Robinson of Kansas player of the year) and I feel as long as they stay healthy, they have a legit shot to win it all.
Second: What the hell happened to UConn? Jeremy Lamb looks LOST on defense, Calhoun may not be around much longer (as I reported earlier here in this thread, get used to reading that line) and now they may have postseason bans too? They had better start playing ball or they may be NIT bound
Third: Indiana still cannot win on the road (lost 5 of last 7 road games) and Michigan State (with the best coach in the nation, as said by me earlier in this thread) looks pretty dang good after a win at OSU. I expect only these two Big Ten teams MSU, OSU to make noise in the tournament.
Fourth: UNC has something off. Lack the killer drive or the ability to close (see the Duke game) Duke lost to apparently the best team in the ACC Florida State at home (remember from earlier posts, you are supposed to win ALL of your home games!)
Five: DuKe shoots a LOT of threes. They had better fall come tourny time or they will be out before you can say sweet 16. Same for Mizzou. Three pointers are nice and sometimes they do fall (see VCU last year) but more times than not, you have to have something else to fall back on.
Six: Best team nobody is talking about Kansas.
Seven: Is Fab Melo gonna be in academic trouble again or does he just look dumb? Syracuse looks good at home...still some road games in the Big East for them to hurdle but they look like a final four team as of now.
Eight: Murray State MUST win their bracket buster game against St.Mary's. If they do not and lose conference tournament, they will be NIT bound. I hate typing it but RPI is terrible.
Nine: how good is UNLV? Ask San Diego State and UNC. Good sleeper team with great guard play. Could catch fire in the tournament (as said by me in earlier post)
Ten: Xavier has to be the biggest disappointment of the year now. A top 6 team at one point, they not only have disgraced themselves (nothing like having thugs and gangsters on your team eh'?) they look NIT bound at best at this point. Tu Holloway must regret this year now.

Yea, its a shame. Holloway was on his way to being this year's breakout star before the brawl and the press conference heard round the world.
UConn is already banned from the tourney next year, I think. They are trying to get that overturned, but I don't see it happening.
Kentucky is the clear favorite at this point. They don't have any strong weaknesses. that I can see, but the tourney is all about matchups. It only takes one convenient (or inconvenient) matchup to expose a weakness and send you home.
Saying IU still can't win on the road is ignorant. It's true that 5 of their 6 losses came on the road, but 4 of those 5 teams are ranked. Winning at OSU, Wisconsin, MSU, or Michigan would be really hard for any team.
I think IU's biggest problems are its slow starts and its inability to finish games. This is the reason we lost to Minny and Nebraska too. The only two teams that IU has lost to where those two factors weren't an issue were OSU and MSU. Now the road win at Purdue was huge, and I honestly believe it signified the end of IU's road woes. To go into Mackey and end up winning by 17 is huge.
I'm not saying this IU team is perfect at all, but there's been huge progress in finishing games, the last two were clear of that. Whether or not that's the case in the end is yet to be determined. We'll learn a lot at Iowa and when MSU comes to town. I could honestly see IU getting a 3 or 4 seed and making a run in the tournament.

I am not trying to pick on you seriously but read the first paragraph of your statement again. 5 of their 6 losses CAME ON THE ROAD. Good teams are supposed to win all of their home games (maybe with one loss) and have at least a 500 record on the road...IU CANNOT win on the road against GOOD teams, sound better? No one loses to Nebraska on the road and is considered a good road team (or even a legit contender). THE CORNHUSKERS HAVE 3 CONFERENCE VICTORIES! The two teams you guys beat on the road that was impressive were NC State and Notre Dame but that was early in the year. You are excited about beating PURDUE? They lost to Penn St. and barely beat Northwestern (both HORRIBLE teams)
You REALLY think the 5th best team in the big 10 will get a 3 seed???? I see IU as a 5 or maybe a 6. If they win the Big Ten Tournament, maybe a 3 or 4 but since they struggle on the road and the Big Ten Tournament is not in Bloomington, a 5 seed is probably more like it. Right now, Joe Linardi has them as a 6 seed.
I actually like this team. I do feel like your coach was given a long time but he did finally produce a team that at least will play postseason basketball. If they played the tourny in their gym, they could make the Elite 8. Sweet 16 might be more reachable, depending on who they play.

KY. has 7 national championships and your team has how many? Exactly.
5. And only 1 came before 1980, 5 of Kentucky's came before then.
And now that you have Cal as your coach, the guy who admits he looks for 1-year wonders that he knows will skip town for the NBA, you enjoy that drought even more.
Hell, you guys are less relevant than UCONN in the past 15 years.

So in other words two less than UK right? So I assume your team is UNC? Wow no wonder you hate UK since UK is ahead of UNC in pretty much every winning category. I am not thrilled about the one and dones, but we played in 3 consecutive championship games in the 90's (if you count the travel rule they implemented the following year, Miles Simon would have had 7 more turnovers in the game for Arizona and we would have won all three. Sorry Bacon) Yes if you ONLY limit it to 1980, and take away Decades of tradition, banners, SEC Dominance...wait, WHY would you wanna do that? That's like saying UCLA should forget John Wooden. Makes no common sense.
I'm sorry your team couldn't win until the 80's. Sorry the championships did not come until recently as opposed to UK which has been through out history. Heck i am sorry your team got embarrassed by Florida State for that matter and YOUR COACH WALKED OUT ON 5 PLAYERS ON THE COURT (REAL class act their by Good' ol Roy. Leave 5 guys who barely play and prolly have no idea what to do at the end of a road game out there to fend for themselves. CLASS ACT! And what's better...he "apologizes" about it one week later.)
I actually like Zeller and Henson on that team. Barnes is not a big game player all the time however, and if it comes down to pure coaching, its over. Your coach is EXTREMELY overrated (please don't even try to dispute that fact, already posted in an earlier post by me) and LOSES the big game way too much. I do not dispute that Coach Cal is a better recruiter than a coach.

No, it's not the same thing. Wooden's UCLA teams hit a level of perfection that will never be matched. Ever. Regardless of era, to accomplish what his UCLA teams did is unfathomable. To compare Rupp's Kentucky teams to Wooden's UCLA teams is like comparing the RHCP to the Rolling Stones. Also, Rupp had a point-shaving scandal in his tenure. Nicely done.

"Throughout History"? Really? Because 4 came before 1960 (2 in the 40's, 2 in the 50's). Great! This is equivalent to a Yankee fan in his 20s/30s hyping up a bunch of World Series from before the color barrier was broken, or with a watered-down league due to WW2, etc. Great, you won in the all-white era of college basketball, save one of those pats on your back for me!

Ho.Ly. Sh!t. You are so delusional it's entertaining. Roy Williams has 2 national titles, and 7 final fours. Cal has 3 final fours and no championships. Oh, and two of those final fours had to be vacated because the guy was CHEATING. He is a proven cheater, it's common knowledge, and you brainwashed Kentucky fans think he's the second coming of Christ somehow. He's a cheating jerkoff. Roy did walk off the court on his players, and I'll agree it was shameful to do so. But how can you call him out for a single act when your head coach has two decades worth of cheating on his resume?
And how can one of the winningest coaches in NCAA hoops history be overrated? Pull up a wikipedia page or something before blindly bashing a guy. Just because you posted your 'fact' (which is an opinion, fyi) doesn't mean it's indisputable.
UK sucks, and so does Ashley Judd. Yeahhhh I said it.

Uh look at his stats at Kansas. HOW MANY TIMES DID HE CHOKE WITH LOADED TEAMS? I don't need Wikipedia to know this guy is NOT a big game coach. I don't need to look this up. Look at how many quality teams he had...heck in 97 he had 5 pro players on the team and COULD NOT MAKE THE FINAL FOUR (Remember, Vaughn was challenged to hit an open jumper and couldn't?)
I never compared Rupp to Wooden. Perhaps a reread of my post will help. Good try though.
So I guess all teams who only played segregated should be overlooked. Guess that 57 championship is gone huh?
