Hey guys, get on Wanee's forum right now.....Wanee has the Fur Peace Ranch at the fest this year, it's Jorma from Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna's musician camp deal. There are only 25 spots per artist....$75 for the clinics and $50 for the musicians Q & A.
I signed up for the clinic with Mickey Hart!! Gonna be awesome

...headed to my first Wanee, so I'm looking for a little info. I won't be arriving until Friday so I'm assuming my camping space will not be prime. Where should I try to go? Will I be able to get shade? Are there permanent bathrooms and showers? Is the SoS cafe any good?
I have been everywhere and last year was my first Wanee.... let me tell you NOTHING compares venue-wise to SOS!!! The place literally has everything you would want and don't get other places- real *free* bathrooms, a pizza place, the general store wasn't crazy overpriced (no $40 tarps like at Roo lol), and really not a bad camping spot anywhere!
I was down near the river, which is a ways away form the music, but you can get anywhere within 20mins max and tons of people will offer you free rides on their golfcarts (assuming you're a cute little girl like myself lolz) Places to swim, TONS OF SHADE, and generally a very mellow, theft-free vibe.
Check out the Wanee forum... you will love this place! The biggest compliant on their board is that people leave their chairs in the front rows of the music during shows and people are debating whether or not to move people's chairs! Any major festival that's biggest issue is dance space vs. chairs for relaxing up front is great in my opinion- anywhere else and those chairs would be a big pile or fights breaking out, etc etc...WANEE IS SUPER CHILL AND WILL BE A WONDERFUL TIME

I went to Georgia Southern University and Zach used to come through often before he got big. This was when he was just playing on the South Carolina and Georgia coast for the most part. He always played at this little mexican restaurant called "Dos" that was right next to my apartment complex. There would be 40-70 people there at the most. Good times were had.
His Wormtown set inSeptember of 2010 was the first time I was like...whoa this guy is gonna blow up! It's so exciting to see kind, happy people doing big things to make other people smile

^^^ How is volunteering at SoS? I know what the locals due, but what do they have heads do? Pick up trash I assume? You're essentially getting $13 an hour to work there, not a bad deal to get your ticket free.

You're going to love it there. SoS is truly magical. To answer your questions.... you should still be able to get a decent camping spot on Friday. The areas closest to the stages will be filled in, but it is still possible to get prime camping if you don't mind camping away from your car. There may not be anywhere left to park in those spots but you could always drop your gear off or hike it in. Otherwise you might end up with a 10-15 minute walk, 20 at most. And there is plenty of shady wooded camping throughout the park. There ARE permanent bathrooms and showers in several locations throughout the park as well as inside the concert venue. I have never been to the SoS cafe, but like most festivals there are plenty of quality vendors.

The first 5 times I volunteered there, I worked in Production. I helped with Load-in, worked as a stagehand, Load-out, some security, etc. With BigIV-STEP, I've only worked with them at Bear Creek last November. I did work with trash, sorting trash and recycling that people had put into the wrong containers into the proper bins along a road and at a gate to the concert field.
This was the easiest work I've ever had in all my volunteer experience over the last 4 years. But I prefer working in Production, since you are at the stages and get to watch the shows during your shifts. I'm not sure whether STEP is handling Production volunteers though. I'll find out more about them when I'm at SpringFest next month.

There are permanent showers, but in my experience, the hot water can be inconsistent.
The cafe has a bar on one side, a stage at each end, and some tables and chairs, but mostly empty floor in between. At Bear Creek, all the Wednesday night shows were there. It was a nice place to get warmed up and watch some shows during the chilly late nights last November.

Yeah, you can always find shade to set your tent up in, no matter when you get there, even if you get there too late to find a spot to car camp in the shade.

Def true, but I like camping near my car so I can lock things up. Got Bonnaroo'd before and don't want it to happen again.

^^ You are gonna freak out when you get to Suwannee. It is literally all shade unless you are stuck in the back.
Once you experience Suwannee you will be back for more fests, it happens to everyone.
Indeed... I was sold two bear creeks ago and can't get enough Suwannee in my life. I'm extremely sad that I'm missing out on Springfest in a couple weeks...

Don't think I'm gonna make it this year. My university had accidentally overpaid me for work I hadn't done, and since I'm not in school anymore, I have to pay it back. So there goes my Wanee money.
Scrog: are you camping with a group? I may be riding out there solo...
Yes he is. I'm in the group. If you're not offended by constant public group sex and very liberal politics, you should join us. We'll have lesbians, food, fires, beverages, light shows, shelter...all the ingredients of a life-changing weekend. ;-)

Count me in! I won't be getting there until Thursday afternoon, but I can pitch in on all the aforementioned requisites - except lesbians...I don't have any of those laying around...anymore...
