I like The Fragile a lot: it got me into Nine Inch Nails. The Downward Spiral is better, though. Every track is great. The Fragile has some weak stuff on it.

People love The Fragile, I love The Fragile, it's great. But I agree with you that The Downward Spiral is the best NIN record. It's the one. Honestly there isn't a NIN record I dislike.
Good lord it's been too long since I've posted consistently in here. I've been way off my game lately. edit. This Big Boi is nice. This album cover is trash though.
The White Tape is an interesting starting point. If you didn't hate it that's pretty strong, you'll probably dig some other stuff.
I don't know too much about them, I know I don't like Big Boat or Gordo's solo stuff as far as studio stuff goes, and I know how I feel about the jam genre in general. But just from this listen FYF (jokes aside I do like it), Slave to the light, NO2, He Ent to the Bog (where I'm at currently) have all been pretty good and aren't all that 'jammy'. I'm interested to hear how they play those live.

FYF is so much fun to hear live. Fun fact, I was at the Charlotte 7/2/2010 show when they played Fuck Your Face for the first time since 4/29/1987 (1,413 show gap).
N20 they've only played 8 times live.
He Ent to the Bog has never been played live.
Slave to the Traffic Light, on the other hand, is a big song. It's a really stunning song to hear live, one of Phish's more emotional songs. You can pick pretty much any version and it will be awesome, but I'd recommend the version off LivePhish 12/07/1997, which is available on all streaming services. It's kind of advanced level Phish, Trey is really messing around with some interesting tones, and it peaks beautifully.
I know you didn't ask for recommendations, I just can't help myself sometimes. Feel free to disregard my suggestion, it's your journey.
