Agalloch is definitely one of my favorite metal bands. Still hope to catch them live sometime.
For those curious about venturing into Agalloch, they're a metal band in the basic sense. But they infuse elements from black metal, doom, post metal, and folk music into a wonderful mix that I find extremely unique and enjoyable. I probably wouldn't start with this album for first timers, it's a little more black metal infused. I'd either recommend The Mantle or Ashes Against the Grain. The Mantle is what really made them stand out from the crowd, and my first exposure to them as well. Good mix of the metal and folk elements. Ashes Against the Grain is probably the most straight forward rock album of theirs, but still fantastic.
