Anyone have any recommendations for Huntsville or the general Smoky Mountains/Pigeon Forge area? Looking for favorite restaurants, bars, activities; really anything you should do when visiting the area.
I would've dropped this in the travel thread but it's for work so I wanted as many people as possible to see it.
I camp in this spot there any chance that I get. I fucking LOVE it. One time we took a trip from there to Gatlinburg...somewhere on the trip there, you will find the Scooby Gang van. I will have to dig out those photos.
Nice. We usually do the Nantahala Gorge because of the 1/2 person rafts which to me are a little more fun because it's just you (or you +1) and the river. Ocoee I think has some Class 4 rapids on it whereas the Nantahala has 2 Class 3's and lots of 2's along the run. There is a "6" at the very end, but only guides can use that because it's a massive drop.

esteban Thank you! All of that info is awesome. For the purposes of the show we need to stick to the Knoxville side of the park but all of that is really helpful for later episodes. Laurel Falls looks pretty much perfect for one of our segments though so that's really great. And I never thought to do a mountain coaster so I'll see what I can find near Sevierville.
I love the apple orchard suggestion for a later episode so that's going in my list of stuff to do.
No problem man. You're in or around Atlanta right? If so, all those places really are just 3 hours or so to Waynesville which is about our run from New Orleans to Pensacola Beach. I'd be up in the Smokys probably every month or so if I was that close. So assuming you are, there's a ton of shit to do. Laurel Falls is about a half mile or so hike that old people and little kids do pretty often. So there's no real challenge to the hike itself, though the falls are pretty cool, and you can climb up and down them as you see fit. I think all the coasters are on the Tennessee side of the park, so they should be easy enough if it's something you want to do. I think they cost around 15-17.00 a ride. It's a little high, but why not, right?
The orchard we usually go to, and it's because my sister-in-law's mom lives in Waynesville, is Barber's. They are closed until August but otherwise open summer and fall. There are others. There's tons of local honey and jellies and jams there, but the real draw is apples. They even have a non-alcohol daiquiri machine that has frozen apple slush. That shit fucking rules if you like apple juice or cider. www.facebook.com/BarberOrchardFruitstand/
Some of the things I didn't mention are that there are often fish tournaments for brook trout and such going on at any given time where if you catch a tagged one, you can win cash or prizes. Also, there are tons of golf courses. I don't play, but a lot of people do so that's one of those things that if you're into it, there is a plethora of options.
If you're going up there while it's still cold, near Gatlinburg is Ober which is a snow/ice park with snow tubing, snowboarding, skiing and shit. obergatlinburg.com/tubing-2/
What I can't recommend, unfortunately, is anywhere good to eat on the Tennessee side. I'm sure there is great BBQ, but a lot of what you're going to see is fast food such as DQ, McDonald's, Wendy's and places like Shoney's/IHOP/Waffle House. I'm sure if you do a search, there is better shit to be found. sangvincent (I think) lives in Asheville, so he may know of some places on the TN side worth eating at. That's who I'd reach out to.

Also check out the tail of the dragon. Its highway 129 outside G'burg with like 300 turns over the course of 11 miles. always a ton of people out riding their motorcycles or sports cars up and down. has it's own little cult status among motor sports enthusiasts.
hikes I remember that we did on day trips from knoxville are Mr. Le Conte (highest mtn), charlie's bunyan, and ambrams falls
edit: and esteban is right. most food is, unfortunately, chain garbage. I know I've eaten at some mom n pop type places that were delicious after a weekend of backpacking or something, but I have no idea what they were called.
Why do you laugh at my trauma? My mom would take me by the hand and lead me into the bathroom and close the door behind us. Then she would undress me and place me on the toilet and tell me to try to go. While grunting and straining to try to go and avoid the enema, I would watch as she filled a bowl with hot water and swished a bar of Ivory soap in the water until the solution was milky white. As the strong scent of Ivory soap filled the bathroom she would place some towels on the floor by the toilet and place the bowl of soapy water beside them. Then she would open the medicine cabinet and get out the bulb syringe and a jar of Vaseline. As I begged and pleaded with her not to use the syringe on me, she would place me face down on the towels. She would kneel down on the floor beside me and lubricate the nozzle of the syringe with the Vaseline and I would her the bubbling sound of her filling the syringe. She would spread my butt cheeks apart, insert the nozzle and the syringing would begin.
No matter how much I begged her to stop she would use the syringe on me again and again until she was satisfied that she had forced enough of the Ivory soapsuds up into me to make my bowels move. When she finally stopped syringing me she would press my butt cheeks together and tell me to hold it in to let the enema work on me. After allowing me to expel the enema, she would place me back down on the towels and give me another enema of plain water to rinse out the Ivory soap. As I expelled the rinse enema, she would clean everything up and warn me to keep myself regular if I didn't want the syringe used on me again. Despite my best efforts it wouldn't be long before I was plugged up again and the ritual would be repeated.

joel mchale is back on netflix and it's basically the soup. i'm so happy
You just found that? It is about to be three weeks old this Sunday. I love it so much. Welcome to the Soup club.
I didn't know until 2 days ago when ad popped up in a youtube video, not surprised that Netflix dropped the ball on letting folks know through ads (bc it's a weekly type show). Most people binge-watch netflix series and comedy shows so they don't have to usually throw in a lot of ad dollars into the mix

They make it really hard in general to find anything in their catalog. I feel like I never have any idea what's available to me and it can be hard to find stuff I just watched.

I feel like the order of categories displayed changes every time I open Netflix on my Apple TV.
Definitely have the same feelings about the Hulu interface too.

Man the Hulu interface suuuuuuuucks.
I use it for live TV and it's so hard to figure out what is on TV at any given moment. And I basically have no idea where my list of shows that I want to watch or what that even constitutes on there.
